Ragnar and Freyja

Will be in a very large parking lot with sections separated by small medians.

In each session is a group training:
Puppy
Basic obedience
Advanced obedience
Rally

Yes- different classes, different instructors, different goals.

Freyja will be in basic obedience and Ragnar will be in advanced obedience. Ragnar has finished this advanced obedience class last year, I just wanted him to participate and freshen up his commands.

I think I am over thinking it again....
We will get there early and walk the two around and they will become more at ease with the other dogs/surroundings.

Good idea to take more than one fam though- that way they can all experience and discuss.

That sounds like a great learning situation for all of you. Don't despair if the dogs are overstimulated at the sight at first, once you get in your group everything will come together. We can all teach basic obedience at home, but groups of dogs under control is great for teaching your dogs about distractions!

I am very tempted. Freyja’s ears are much thinner than Ragnar’s thick ass ears.
Yes Freyja’s ears are really thin so I expect to be finished pretty soon. She is a little over 5months and I could prob pull them but she is still teething.
Same with Phoebe's ears. I actually kept them out at about 5.5 months because of weather and they held fast so I kept pushing it and never did post again. At that point I felt that the tape dents were doing more harm than leaving the posts out so that's how it went. Of course we watched them like a hawk.
That said, I can see that Ripley's leather is thicker so maybe the thinner thing is for the redheads?

Damn damn damn. I should have taken pictures. Training went fantastic with family, Ragnar and Freyja.

I was late coming home from work and I fricking HATE to rush....It was 39dgs with a cold wind. The family did not want to go at all- everybody was tired.

Hell no, this is happening. Told them to dress warm, get your shit together and ass in the truck- we are going. Funny, I had ZERO complaints from the two Dobermans. Ragnar understands my body language well and just sat by the door waiting to be released for the truck. Had to put Freyja in the kennel, she was bouncing around, she knew something was up.

Made sure I had the treats, leashes, prongs, and water. Wife, Payton (20), Tristen (15), Ragnar and Freyja.

We arrived with plenty of time to get both Dobermans out, walk around and settle down. My plan was for wife and Payton to go with Ragnar in the advanced class and Tristen and I to basic obedience.

We walked them around the other dogs there- There were 3 black GS, 2 Cane Corso, bad ass looking gray poodle with a fire mohawk and foo man chu goatee, 2 boxers, whippet, greyhound, labdoodle, schnauzer and a bunch of yippie dogs.

Ragnar immediately started talking and yodeling, jumping side to side excitedly. So I took him over from Payt putting him through all commands in repetition to redirect his focus onto me. Freyja was prancing around quietly but very alert- responding very well to Tristen.

I did not feel like Payton held a commanding enough presence so I switched over to her and Ragnar. Especially since that’s where the GS and Cane Corsos went. Not that Ragnar would attack any of them but I didn’t want Payt to loose control over the situation. Wife and Tristen went two parking lots over to the basic class.

After about 10mins in I gave Ragnar to Payton and walked over to check on Freyja. I kept my distance from them and noticed wife and Tristen were having a fun time with Freyja. Tristen especially was having fun and doing a great job.

Walked back to Payt/Ragnar and Payt was doing an okay job. She was having issues of Ragnar not focusing and looking behind him to find me. I guess next time she needs to take him and me just stay out of the area period. Next time Payt will have more confidence and familiarity of the situation.

Tristen wants to come everytime for Freyja and Payt wants to come everytime with Ragnar. Wife cares and would participate if needed but she’s indifferent.

So all had fun and want to go back.

Yay so happy to hear!! Glad you made the leap. I really do think you are on the right track to back out of the picture and be an observer. If you want them to take part in training they have to figure it out together. Let the instructor teach them, not Dad. It's easier that way haha. They'll also gain the confidence even when frustrated that they can figure it out and see to it on the other side. Not that Dad will take care of it. I think you will see an overall improvement in the behavior from the dogs too in seeing the rest of the family as leaders which means better behavior and an under control household.

I'm glad it went well and it sounds like you gave them the motivation they needed!

I was smiling and happy when I read the training post.
Once you get a taste of training your Dobie it becomes addictive.
I love doing training and it sounds like Ragnar and Freyja did well.

So glad you got the family motivated because raising a Doberman is a family affair in order to have a well rounded and behaved family member.

Tristen has pretty much taken over with Freyja.... she skips soccer practice to go to training with Freyja. Her coach will not let her start and she has to miss the first 10mins of next game when she misses practice. I love my soccer but have to say- proud papa moment. The coach is a jackass.

My class with Ragnar is prob 100yards from Tristen and Freyja, so when Trist leaves- no dad there to help. I really think this has empowered her. All the adults want to see the young girl with the pretty red Doberman. She says everybody asks all kinds of questions. She made me laugh because she said a big grey Cane Corso came next to them and Freyja kept looking at them- she looked down and said, “Don’t worry Freyja, you got this.”

The two black GS and the badass looking poodle was not there last night- we even walked around looking for them.

Training our dogs become addictive. I love that her heart is totally in this.

You wait, she will come to you one day soon and ask to enroll in a school to learn dog training and become a licensed dog trainer.

This is wonderful to hear! I also love the pics of other class mates. The little JR looks like he has a spring up his butt ready to go! :woot2: Great things in the future I think, and a great father/daughter team!

I absolutely love training him at the high school stadium. Sorry, but I really enjoy showing him off in front of the track and baseball team while they are practicing.... It also presents with good distractions for him to keep focus on me.

Cannot quite release him from a far stay like this....he is such a bull that he barrels down the aluminum bleachers at full speed. I walk back to him and heel him down the steps. But he performs spot on with commands and then when I set him free in the fields??? He goes fricking nuts.

So proud of this asshat!!
