Puppy bm

anyone heard of eggs causing this?
It could be. I know it happens to some people if they have a sensitivity to it. For some reason I can eat something like scrambled eggs, but boiled eggs upset my tummy.

It happened right after she ate the egg too maybe 10 min.

Also, she hasn’t gained weight since we were at the vet last Monday. Should that be a concern?

My two cents:
Stop giving her treats and snacks period. Establish a dog food that does not cause upset GI for at least a month. Nothing else but the dog food.

If you need to give treats then source out your kibble or I would use reg Cheerios. Mine have always loved Cheerios and if it is different and coming from you, she should be excited as she would be for a flavorful treat.

You’ve had GI probs on and off for a while now, it doesn’t take much to upset a sensitive stomach esp with any extra amount of fats and protein.

Once you get a solid understand that it’s not the kibble, then you can add flavorful treats- being acutely aware if it causes the runny stools.

Good luck.

Ok makes sense and that’s what I was leaning towards doing. I usually add meat or an egg to her food, but it appears she’s got a sensitive stomach. I just can’t figure it out.

I’m going to stick to kibble only for a month, like you said and that way I’ll know what’s going on.

She’s getting 4 cups a day which I think is the proper amount and no weight gain is worrisome.

Appreciate the help and advice @Ddski5

I am sorry I have been away for a bit…
How old is she?
What food are you feeding?
How many times a day?
What is fat%
What is protein%
Do you add water to the kibble?
Any cats inside or outside?
Any chickens, ducks or geese wandering in your yard?

Don’t be sorry! Missed you on here!

6 months
PPP salmon and rice sensitive stomach large breed puppy
Protein 28
Fat 13
Water added in half of bf - hand feed another half , lunch typically no water because hand feed all kibble for lunch
Dinner typically no water hand feed and do games with kibble
Cat inside and outside no access to litter box for Pepper although he may use our yard
Wildlife in yard foxes and deer never have seen droppings
Last week she was on amoxicillin for bacterial infection, thinking goose poop at the park and still water she ran into and grabbed a sip - bm was cleared up mid week while on meds

Hmm…IMHO,
-Salmon PPP is the go to for this, continue with this.
-Protein and fat look good.
-Even though you think Pepper does not have access to litter box, they always find a way. Fricking Ragnar was a pro…we would have many boundaries and small holes preventing his access but haha. that asshat what find a way. Freyja never was one to get into it but she came down with loose stools a while back and I caught her late one night. I had to watch both when outside because we have three neighborhood cats that poop in my flower beds and both were very good at finding/eating it from there.
-goose/chicken/ duck poop will definitely do it and it doesn’t take much at all.
-so you are feeding 3x day= 4cups. I don’t think you are feeding too much but I do know that some pups can’t handle a lot at one time. Something to think about.
-antbx will kill the good gut bacteria thus cause loose stools. I always give a good probiotic when symptomatic and then some here and there for maintenance.

lol to finding a way, I know she’s up to no good in the yard and so I watch her a lot. I’ve seen her eating some shrubs and when I walk out to her she stops… she knows, but she can’t stop herself lol.

Yes, I think she got sick from the goose poop, which is annoying bc I use the long line when at different parks, now I avoid the goose poop areas with her and can tell when she’s on a poop sniffing mission. I cut it off right then.

I have her on keifer, but I’m wondering if milk is bothering her. I’m stopping thag as well. I’m going to use the purina probiotics, I know purina, but I did use it with her last round of diarrhea and it cleared up, but it’s feeling back again, I had stopped using the purina probiotic.

Thank you a million for looking into this as I do greatly appreciate it!
I am just hoping to fix this I feel bad for her and it worries me. Her last bm sample was clear.

Good catch. That very well could be the culprit. Cat poop, not the cat.

I doubt it was the egg if she had loose poop 10 minutes after. Nothing could travel that fast through the intestines, but I guess if it was a serious allergy it could cause hard contractions to whatever was in her system to come out fast, but just seems doubtful. Also, that period of days when things were all going well, did she have an egg or two in those days or is this the first one she had for a couple of weeks? Did she have her spoon of Keifer while it was all normal? Somewhere I read that Keifer doesn't act like dairy to those sensitive to it, maybe I'm thinking of goats milk.

What @Ddski5 said, just stay on the kibble diet, + a probiotic to counteract the antibiotics.

During her period of normal bm, yes she had an egg a day, Keifer each day as well. I did start using whole milk yogurt instead of Keifer bc I had a local brand we bought, she had soft stools and idk why. It may have been the bully stick too, since that all started her loose stools up last week.

I can’t pin point it.

I’m going all kibble for now and hope things calm down. As for the poop, maybe he doesn’t use his liter box and she’s with me 24/7, so she can’t get upstairs at all.

Maybe it’s in our yard, but again I’m with her, I leave her here and there for a minute, so maybe she finds a turd.

😩😵‍💫🥴

Thank you @Ravenbird lets hope this clears up for good!

Changing subject here…
You are hand feeding, I suspect to aid in bonding and obedience.

I sure would like to know how’s that going?
Before you started it and any changes since implemented?

It’s going really well and I really started doing it when she was 4 months. I’ve increased it more the older she’s gets. Bf I take half and work on her place and stuff with her in the house, then she gets the rest in a snuffle thing or one of her feeder toys. For lunch we take a walk / new locations we visit, and I take her lunch portion use it all. Dinner I do what we do at breakfast same routine.

And question for you, should I keep hand feeding her forever? I don’t mind it I enjoy that we train and bond as well.

Any changes regarding behavior or her stomach bm issues?

Bm issues no changes it’s been up and down. I assume if I only kibble hand feed she’ll be ok no other add ons in a bowl for her.

Behavior wise I think we turned a corner recently, as she was biting at me and making contact biting not in a good way, when she didn’t get her way, or in the car, now have a crate for her car rides.. we had a come to Jesus and she’s changed her tune no issues biting and listening when she attempts to bite bc she’s over excited playing. No more noting at me or snapping when she is told no and wants something. She seems to respect me more, lots of eye contact which is amazing. I do feel she is a well behaved and well mannered dog already. Her training is going well, commands are sticking, she has her moments of course, but nothing major. I really am thrilled to see how she had been responding and is just a great dog. Even when company comes over she’s wonderful and needs her leash on, to be expected, jumping has reduced.

I get compliments on her often as to how well behaved she is. People ask how old? And wow she’s so well behaved, we see you working with her a lot and it’s impressive. I thak them as I have no idea what I’m doing, but I’m trying hard.

You were asking @Ddski5 but I will say I use food to train to this day. I put some good quality treats mixed with dry kibble in my pouch or pocket and train with rewards. As long as Pepper has high food drive there's not a thing wrong with hand feeding. I interchange ball or tug for reward because it's a bigger reward than food, but that's another story. Once she stops growing and you can eyeball her condition you don't have to measure stuff out, just grab a handful and go.

I truly was not fishing for maladies.

I know that you are a hard working, want to do it right owner and by you stating you are hand feeding. I wanted to hear some positive success today to make me smile. A lot of folks come on here, ask behavioral questions and disappear or don’t put in the work…

Said it before, say it again- you get what you put into them. You are going to be rewarded and extremely proud.

Ok so I know she needs time to adjust, but thoughts on why her BM in the morning is normal and as the day progresses it gets looser and looser?

I don’t understand, but I do see a pattern with her bms, same consistency at same time of the day.

That’s what my two did until their system normalized. Expect this for a couple of days.

Make sure to use the probiotic…

Ok that’s reassuring thank you!!!

It’s making me crazy I think we are good to go and bam it’s back…

I did cut her food down to 3.75 cups no idea if thats even related.

I ordered a better probiotic today and haven’t given her the purina one yet today. So far bms have been normal to fairly normal. Maybe related? Idk… would we great if so.
Also, her kibble says up to 2 cups a day for her age/wieght. I give her 3 3/4, is that too much you think? I feel like she’s actually still hungry only on kibble now. She is also petite around 43 pounds.
My husband is convinced I’ve gone crazy as I’m the poop inspector 😩🫣😅
