Hi!

Pepper still has loose stools. Sorry tmi.

Vet gave him anti diarrhea meds we did a week off it still loose, a shape, but soft.

Now ending 5 days of Albon and same with stools.

She’s been on royal canin sensitive stomach. I do 2 tsp in am of whole milk yogurt. Lunch and dinner chicken rice and her kibble. Treats chicken.

Anyone have any thoughts maybe chicken upsets her?

How old is the puppy and how long has she been eating that food? If she hasn’t been eating it long it’s possible she’s still adjusting to it. Also, did the vet take a stool sample? If they did and everything came back okay, and if your puppy has been eating that food for awhile, maybe it’s worth changing foods?

My puppy was weaned onto Purina Pro Plan and I continued to feed that until he was around 4 months old. He almost always had soft stools while eating it. When I finally switched to a new food everything improved.

She is 11 weeks and we started this kibble a week ago. The food the breeder gave me she was fine with and we weaned her to another food per the breeder and then diarrhea started. It was yellow then. Now it is normal color semi soft, but she just had diarrhea.

Stool sample showed she had a little bit of a parasite and so she’s on Albon for it.

She is acting normal and eating normal.

I feel bad and hope she’s ok but I assume she is since she’s being totally normal.

Oh and she did barf today after lunch which was a new thing, but she eats grass and crap in my yard. I have to watch her like a hawk.

What food did you wean her to?

When you say, “weaned her over to new food”…. You did this by 75/25 for 2-3days then 50/50 for 2-3days and then 25/75?

Really have to be careful with young pups sensitive stomach, getting use to new environment, vaccinations, etc…

Also, try to break the habit of eating grass and everything in your yard. They can easily get an intestinal blockage and die.

Did the vet not prescribe a probiotic? If not, she should be on it….your/her gut and intestines have both good and bad bacteria in it. It is absolutely essential to maintain a healthy balance of thriving good bacteria in your gut. If you do not, then you will have diarrhea and loose stools. If all your good bacteria dies out then you have a really inflamed screwed up gut and can develop C-diff (look it up), it’s absolutely horrible.

Albon is an antibiotic that kills bacteria…I am not knocking that the vet put her on Albon, it’s a good antibiotic that kills coccidiosis. I am just saying that if it kills all bacteria then she needs a good probiotic to replenish the good bacterial to maintain a good gut system. This is very important because a good gut system is a strong supporter of the overall immune system.

Whole milk yogurt? She could be lactose intolerant. Chicken? A lot of dogs in general have allergies to chicken. Only way to determine this is to start an elimination diet.

Have you tried 1 spoon of canned pumpkin, it did wonders for mine when they had loose cow paddy bm.

Stop eating foreign substances
Not all vaccines at once
Wean for correct length of time

She was on natures domaine and I switched her to holistic approach the correct way. She had bm issues shortly after that switch.

Albon is for the coccidiosis she has. I am also getting her into a different vet as I’m not confident with this vet. New vets in the office and I’m not into them.

She did fine with the probiotic whole milk when we first got her.i will ask vet for probiotic tomorrow.

I cannot have her outside without eating grass she drives me crazy. We will be playing and she just stops to eat grass. I’m trying, but any suggestions to get her to stop?

If I remember correctly, a past member @C908 made the discovery that different puppy foods have different caloric intake even with the same maker of the food. For instance, him and I both liked Fromm dog food. He had a young pup and I had a young pup coming in so I was following his lead of what kind of Fromm food to feed. Fromm had two types of puppy dry food, large breed puppy gold blue bag and puppy gold pink bag. Well he was feeding the puppy gold pink bag and his pup kept having diarrhea, went to vet and couldn’t figure it out. Then he called Fromm about the puppy food and they told him the puppy gold pink bag may have too many calories per serving and for him to feed the large breed gold blue bag with less calories. He switched and his puppy stopped having cow paddy poops. It worked for me also. So check all ingredients and compare to see if anything glares out at you.

Tbh, I would bet she has coccidiosis and the Albon is causing the loose stools. Get on a good probiotic.

And I would prob only give 1/2 or 1 tsp of pumpkin since she is only 11weeks. Too much pumpkin will cause loose stools.

At 11 weeks, grabbing grass might just be puppy investigations, but too much will make them puke... stay close and watch to make sure she doesn't investigate things that are inedible. A great natural probiotic is Keifer rather than yogurt. Supposedly digestible to dairy sensitive souls. Same with goats milk. These things depend on the size of your town/choices you have, but are all pretty safe in small amounts.

Good idea with comparing I’ll do that in the am.

I was also thinking Albon causing the diarrhea as she’s been having soft stools but today diarrhea and today is the last days of meds. We’ve also had no poop incidents in the house and poor girl did today after she went outside too. Also, puked today which is see Albon can cause.

Vet is to call me tomorrow and we change offices soon.

Just picked up pumpkin purée not filling for tomorrow am.

Regular goats milk will work also?

Yes the grass today was bad I have to stay right with her tell her to drop it the entire time. Even bought a new fetch stivk that makes noises and nope plays a few rounds and off to grass. Makes me crazy! So not sure is Albon and grass just made her puke.

I bet this is the cause. Stools should firm up once she's done. Diarrhea is a side effect. Make sure to give the Albon with food to ease the symptoms.

Hope the vet can get her a probiotic today and that Pepper continues to get regular.

Btw she slurped her Keifer right up! Had a tablespoon in my palm and she went to town!

had no idea what Kefir was

Costco also sells it! I was using raw goats milk but it’s way more expensive compared to kefir.

the grass today was bad

I noticed Kaiser eats grass when his stomach is upset. If he eats it in the morning, he will have a bile puke which I avoid by changing up the timing of his morning meal. If he eats it in the evening, he will have diarrhea either way, it’s a good idea to curb that behavior.
