Pepper 🌶️

So you were giving Rovera (Carprofen) after she came home, it wasn't just a one time by the vet before she went home? I just read details about it and it can indeed cause all those side effects and sometimes can be quite severe. I want to think like mentioned earlier it could be the meds, not the actual spay.

Yes, went home with 4 days of it. She took 2 and 1 they get gave her before she left.

I know it seems like a very strong medicine that causes a lot of issues.

She now doesn’t have much of an appetite and I can see she is in pain she’s acting distant.

Oh I am so sorry you are going through this....PLEASE don't condem yourself for getting her spayed....I know; easier said than done...remember; she can also sense YOUR stress....try your best to be calm and loving to her, and not freak out. Don't think I have ever been any good with this advice, but I have gotten better over the years, going through so many things with our dobermans.
It's awful when they have reaction to medication...but she will recover soon...and this will all be behind you ❤️ Try and keep the faith! We are all here for you.

I'm also thinking the pain is being caused by the rawness in her gut or the extreme straining and bleeding of the intestinal tract. In other words, not pain from the spay. The GI problems sound like a much more painful ordeal - and Stress! - for Pepper than coming home from a spay. The whining and crying could be from stress of feeling like she has to poop constantly as she knows it's not normal. I know you are stressed too - I tried to act normal knowing Asha was going in for a spay, but she knew and became very anxious at the vet. I couldn't fool her one bit. That said, when Pepper needs to go out try your best to act like it's no big deal. You probably can't fool her, but try to help her feel ok. "Oh, you need to go out again? Of course! I'd do anything for my princess!" I say things like that in sing-song just to hide my own thoughts of "omg omg why is this happening". These dogs are so freaking sensitive emotionally... I know she thinks my sing-song is BS, but it helps to try.

Thank you so much @Two Dobes. I really appreciate it.

The blood is really worrisome it’s not always, but when it happens it’s just drops of bright red blood. Then she’ll have some diarrhea with blood in it.

Thank you for reminding me of how to act around her. I haven’t been great lots of crying. I need to get it together.

She seems a little happier now ate a little more. Mt younger son has a friend over and she’s really happy to see him.

Hard not to cry out of frustration and fear...but you do need to keep it "happy' with her. Glad a friend came that she can be distracted with:love:

I don't think any of us can completely fool our Dobermans. I have come to believe they can smell our fear underneath our behavior. I do think, however, that they do try to give us some level of "teamwork", for lack of a better word, as if "ok he's really trying so I will try too". I guess I'm saying that it's still really important to the both of you to try :). I also agree don't beat yourself up over the decision to spay. I know it feels awful to go through things with our babies at the time, but they are really forgiving to thier loved ones, and soon she will be back on kilter and you'll have her out doing her favorite things and she will absolutely adore you! Remember I said that the next time I go through something with one of my dogs, though. I will need to hear it then, even though i can say it now.

Much appreciated @Katyusharocket. Kind and true words. I’ll remember this ☺️

How is Pepper doing today? Praying for good news....
Seems to be on the mend! Thank you for thinking of her 💗

Had a better night less diarrhea and it seems to be getting more solid now for the most part.

I bought this cone and it seems to work. She doesn’t mind it. When I have to run errands I need to crate her no choice.

I have not seen that! Looks comfy & light too....so her head can rest on it. Definately what is needed with these guys...they can make their necks so long, and reach everywhere like a pretzel.
Great to hear that she is turning a corner...hope you got some sleep!

Yes, it’s light and she can rest with it. Amazon find. She’s still on the sofa with me so we have tried it long term. She’s still acted like the plastic one was going to kill her 🤦‍♀️ yes I did get some sleep. I got at least four hours in a row, and then two later on after she had some potty issues in the middle of the night.

Going to pick up pro pectalin for her soon.
