Pepper šŸŒ¶ļø

Oh boy always something worrisome... I hope it helps to get her off the meds so she starts feeling better sooner than later. We honestly didn't go through most of this but maybe it was because she had Elroy to snuggle up with most of the time?
Thank you I am praying tonight is better for her. That’s what my husband said I only see it because I am with her 24/7. I don’t want to take her upstairs until I know her belly is better. Otherwise we’d be going up and down the steps too much. So sofa again tonight.

She’s been shaking on and off and now it’s constant, paired with whining, and restlessness- will not sleep.
I have to monitor symptoms of pain with Ripley to know whether to increase her dose that day or not. What you mentioned are all signs of pain. Hopefully you can get an answer first thing Monday about switching to a different NSAID for her. Galliprant is easier on the GI. You could ask about giving an antacid 30 min before her meals and medication too to help with the medication since she is sensitive.

Thank you @Rits.

At the ER now. She’s getting pain meds that are safe on the Gi tract, fluids, and another probiotic. Slightly dehydrated nothing too bad, but did have bright red blood coming out her butt. Said this is more than likely from the pain meds and stress due to surgery and pain, plus she already has a sensitive stomach.

Aw sorry to hear y'all had to make that trip but glad she's in good hands and will be feeling better very soon! Definitely call the vet to mark that down in her chart to use a different pain medication than carprofen for her in the future. Hope she's feeling better and both of you can get some rest!

Thank you. Yes, good call I will contact them tomorrow about the pain meds.

We are home now and hoping she recovers asap.

I'm so sorry yet another Pepper emergency! My heart is with you both. Keep us posted on the recovery.

She wouldn’t eat much when we got home which is unlike her and worried me. Ate some kibble and noodles with ground turkey. I had to add Metamucil which she doesn’t like so this has been tricky. Any suggestions on how to get this into them? New probiotic is a pill gave her that too.

More explosions when we got home, but finally got her to get on the sofa and rest. She just fell asleep thankfully. They prescribed
Gabapentin, it is easier on the gi tract and may cause drowsiness also lessen anxiety.

I am so upset and worried about her. Beating myself up that I spayed her as it has been a nightmare. Praying she is now recovering, breaks my heart seeing her like this.

Ugh, you and I are going through similar things right now! No appetite. Diarrhea. Just different reasons.🄺 I wouldn't beat yourself up about the spay. I don't feel like that's the issue. It's more the pain medication. Pepper has had such a sensitive stomach and finding the right one to comfort her and not make it worse has got to be a trial. Hopefully the one they have her on now will be easier on her tummy.

Drowsiness at this point would be a blessing, right? There are other symptoms that could pop up but I don't think she'll be on it long enough to be an issue.:fingersx:

Hope you’re doing ok too with Ms. Kali.

Thank you for the encouragement šŸ’—

Biggest hugs to you both!

I'm hoping that it is just stress related GI and reactions to the meds, but wow this is a rough trip. Did they give her antibiotics with the spay? I know that when Asha got a sulphur based antibiotic she had severe gut cramps and gut inflammation (seen on X-ray) - I think I posted that story here, but it was years ago. So I did note to never give her any sulphur based meds.

One thing I have not posted about is that she had a long bout of soft stools with lots of mucus/a little blood back in Sept/Oct. which we cleared up (I'll post on a different thread about that) but I decided to start using a slow feeder. I figured she'd get mad and turn it over, but she did not. Turns out it becomes almost blissful time for her to work every single crevice for the last smidgen of food and it's almost like chewing a bone. Went from eating in 9 seconds to about 5 - 7 minutes. I wish I'd been doing this all her life. I do add warm water or broth to make it mushy and sticky otherwise she can pick up the semi-moist (soaked kibble with a variety of meat toppers) in less than 3 minutes. Until Pepper is back to her normal I wouldn't try this, but just thought I'd throw it out there for the future.

Is the probiotic Proviable? If so that's what I keep Asha on. I first got it from the vet after the sulphur incident but you can get it from Chewy.

Thank you so much šŸ’— no antibiotics just the rovera.
That’s interesting to know sulphur based can also be an irritant. Poor Asha and glad you found out what caused her issues.

I’ll be on the look out as to what went on with her digestive upset. I’d like to know how it went away. The blood is really scary to see and clearly raises alarms. Pepper has had streaks before, but not like this, it was drips of bright red blood only.

That’s awesome she works the slow feeder! They are really helpful! Pepper tends to flip them. Maybe I can get a new one that she’ll work instead of flip. Thanks for this!

Yes, they gave us proviable. Good to know that’s what you use too. I plan to have her stay on it for good.
