Yeah it seems like this one would be more like a human neck brace, where you really can't move your head too much. My inflatable one she still can get to her legs and I'm sure an incision.

I was going to order the soft doughnut one, but read they can still get to it. I know she will… oh I forgot about that one Jan posted! That may work.
If one of us is with her we tell her no, but bed time she will lick. Luckily, my boys are off this week so more hands on deck.

The snow caused them to be off… which is crazy!

I know people sometimes use “recovery suits” (basically dog pajamas lol) after surgeries to keep the dog from getting to the stitches. I wonder if that would help?

I’m not sure if they are all inflatable or not, but when I tried that donut style cone with Remy he was able to get it off easily and pop it just as quick lol. I believe some have an area to thread their collar through though which should prevent it from coming off.

I seriously considered that too but a few vets have said it's better to leave the incision open to the air to heal faster.

I know I did buy one, it didn’t fit. Although, now I think she’d try to eat it. She has gotten better with eating stuff, but last week she chewed her sweater she had one.

I found a disc shaped one it’s inflatable too. Going to try some out because she is super depressed and scared when the plastic cone is on.

Thread 'Dealing with a cut on Annie'

Several days ago Annie came in the house licking her front leg. When I went to investigate I saw a nice gash!

I've seen her run through the woods, not on the path, but through the brush and figured she got jabbed by something! I have seen her do that before and worried about that very thing. She is such a runner! She flies around here!

I cleaned it, soaked with Vashe and tried bandaging it.

Nothing lasted very long. In fact sometimes it was only minutes. I even ordered a inflatable cone which she didn't seem to mind and it worked fairly well...

I was looking for a picture of Annie in her inflatable and I couldn't find it quick enough. So I looked up my thread on her cut. Because I knew there was a picture of her in it. So that's the one that I have. And she was able to bend her head around to her legs. This one also threads through the collar so it doesn't come off. But she was too mobile in it. The one that Jan posted seems like it would hold the head up and not allow them to bend it toward their body. And yet still give good visual so that they're not in the cone of death LOL I know all the animals hate those cones! I mean really, they can hardly see anything and moving around without hitting it is impossible. I think it makes them depressed. I would definitely consider the stiff one that Jan posted. Or even a t-shirt like I did in this thread. But if I remember right she got out of that too. I think the one that Jan posted solves a lot of problems.

Anyone have any issues with carprofen? I had a feeling it would upset Peppers stomach. Last night it started at 3 am and it’s intense. The vet is not in and will call me soon with what to do next for this issue.
Normal and seems fine otherwise eating and moving around.

I don't know if I've ever given that for anything. But then I don't remember the name of some stuff all the time. But it does look like it does cause problems with some dogs. I wonder if he will suggest something else? Or maybe she doesn't need anymore? Let us know what he says. Was she throwing up? Or diarrhea?

Just diarrhea and it’s been non stop. She also has bad gas and then is by the back door to say let’s go now! And we have snow that’s a hard sheet of ice so my yard is a mess with I am shoveling bricks of snow up to remove it

Oh boy. Not good. Does she seem like she's in pain? I guess it's hard to tell because she has been on the carprofen medicine. But, boy, I would think he'll tell you to stop it. She doesn't need that side effect. Poor girl!

No, she seems fine and back to her normal self. I think the carprofen made her sleepy and I’m not looking forward to her being not sleepy.

hmm, yea, I hear ya on that. But I wouldn't want the diarrhea either!

I would personally take her off it since she doesn't need the tummy issues while she's trying to heal. Our vet sent up home with 5 or so but she only had one the first day and then she seemed fine. They also don't like to mask any pain with meds so the dog feels so good they try to over do it, if that makes sense.
Maybe that's part of my personality coming through too since I almost always refuse pain meds since the side effects can be worse than what you're taking them for.

Good point. I understand what you mean those medicines mask the pain which can be a negative. She’s acting fine and rammy. So wish me luck! lol. Her belly, it seems has calmed down after the issues she had over night.

Last dose of meds, because I am not going to give them anymore was with dinner. She then started with diarrhea that ended in the middle of the night. She’s been shaking on and off and now it’s constant, paired with whining, and restlessness- will not sleep. Has been out a million times and won’t go to the bathroom just seems very alert.
Her incision looks normal being surgery was Wednesday of this week.
Can this be stress? Only vet open is emergency.

Oh my goodness. So sorry we're going through this. In the middle of the night. Obviously everybody was sleeping and couldn't help you. I'm just seeing it now. What did you do since 3:00 a.m.? How has she been? Hopefully she's better! It's might be a side effect of those pills. I really don't know. I'm going through that with Kali right now. Side effects. Hopefully you're able to wrap her up and get her to sleep and then call your bed in the morning. These emergency vets usually have such a long waiting time. I wish there were more of them. {{{{HUGS}}}}

I woke my husband up and we decided to wait into 8 am. The vet she goes to has an emergency in Pennsylvania, I’ll call them. I had to crate her and sleep at 4:30am and she woke me at 6:30am. Diarrhea back, pacing the house, and whining. We’ve been out 4 times with only two diarrhea and now she’s whining to go outfront. Maybe to walk? No idea she’s acting odd.

And this weather isn't helping! I said the same thing with Kali and my horse. It would be nice if it was decent outside that you can at least take Pepper for a walk. Just in case that would help! Sometimes it does. Just a little walk to get things moving or just to tired her out or take away the anxiety. I would have done that with Kali too. Just let her be outside for a while. But it's just too damn cold and too much snow and this morning it's windy again!

I hope you finally get some answers and that she finally will be comfortable! When she finally lays down you should lay down with her.

You’re right it’s awful outside. I don’t even know what to do with my yard it’s disgusting. My husband laughed about it and I’m disturbed to even look at it.

I know what you mean and I think we will just go out front today and sniff and lightly walk. Ten minutes max.

Thank you for responding I was losing it last night. She had me really worried with the shaking it’s less now, but still happening.

Oh boy always something worrisome... I hope it helps to get her off the meds so she starts feeling better sooner than later. We honestly didn't go through most of this but maybe it was because she had Elroy to snuggle up with most of the time?
