Today was our last vet visit hopefully for the year. It was for her first rabies shot. Last time I was there, if you remember, she got her last puppy shot and they were going to give her the rabies shot along with that. I wanted to space it out. No problem with my vet so a few weeks down the road and here we are. The last time we took Annie in the car to our son's house we made the mistake of feeding her right before we left and she threw up.

This time I was going to the vet alone and with that in mind I thought it would be plenty of time between breakfast at 4:45 and our trip. She was fed around 4:45 a.m. leaving at 8am. I took my car and actually just put her in the backseat this time. I thought it would be a little better and I think it was. She was really good on the way there.
My biggest issue with her right now is pulling on the leash. I have actually been using leftover collars that I had and haven't bought one especially for her, waiting for her to finish growing. I've been just using whatever I have and adjusting them for size.
We talked about the prong collar recently and I knew I wanted to try that someday. So I ended up buying one a couple of weeks ago from Lola Limited. I haven't really been using it yet except for putting it on and walking her around for about 2 minutes and taking it off. Just to get her used to it and see how she reacted to it.
Well, my biggest fear with the way she was pulling was for the collars that I'm using to pull apart. They are not a buckle type. They are those snap type collars. They seem really strong but so is she! Last time my husband and I both took her to the vet he had commented on that breaking. Especially at the Vets in an unfamiliar area and with busy roads around.
So this morning he asked me if I was going to use the prong collar. I said, oh gosh no. I've only used it a few times and wasn't sure how she would be with it in an excitable situation. Besides, I thought I had another collar leftover from Buddy that I could use.
Well, Panic set in when I realized I had nothing that fit her! Not even a choke chain and I had at least four of them. They were either way too small or too big and I really don't like them. I think the way she pulled they would have really choked her.
So last minute decision was to take the prong. I put it on her to practice going in and out of the backseat of the car and she did pretty well! Very surprised. So I put her in the car, took it off and off we went.
When we got there I put it back on and took her in and it was well worth it! She was very easy to control even though she was super excited. Got her on the scale and my goodness she was already up to 38.6 lb!
Waiting for the vet, we suddenly heard a dog start barking! She was all ears.

Yes I had taken off her posts because they were ready to be changed and I knew it would give the vet an opportunity to look them over.
After the vet tech came in I got her up on the table.

When my vet came in she was like a wiggle worm! She was much bigger for the vet tech to hold!

He thought everything look great. Her teeth are coming in well, he's happy with her ears and how they've healed and said her weight was good. Took her temperature and gave her a shot and when he set her down it was like zoomies! LOL I finally put the prong collar back on her and we went out to the receptionist area.
The setup of his office is really nice. When you come out the exam room you go down a hallway and it tees. When you're exiting you go to the right and on the other side to the left is where people are coming in. You barely meet up with another dog.
But as we were leaving to the right, the entrance door to the left was open and there was a huge German Shepherd with three people trying to get on the scale. The scale is in the reception area but with the door open he happened to see us walk through and he started barking like a maniac! Scared the crap out of both me and Annie! LOL I was glad we didn't have to be in the room with them but because he was still in the reception area, but on the other side of the long reception desk and out of view, I stayed right by the door waiting for them to get him inside. Annie sat quietly by my side.

Probably a little bit scared. So was I! LOL finally they got the weight on the dog and the tech said you can bring him in. The lady who owned him looked relieved and she said, Praise God! and everybody laughed! Boy, he looked like a handful for that woman who looked almost my age. It was pretty funny.
When we came out the exit door and sat waiting for the shepherd to go in, straight ahead of us sat a woman with a chubby little bulldog. Annie kept giving a little growl. They were not a threat but I respectfully kept my distance while we waited for the shepherd to go in.
You can see I had the collar on her and I wasn't holding it tight or high up on her neck. It was just a little reminder for her not to pull me down. She was very good.
No problems on the way home.

But then probably a half hour after we got home she threw up.

I didn't know if it was from the ride in the car or if it was from the rabies shot. She has never had a reaction to any of the other shots. And actually she's been in car rides before also. So I guess we'll never know but she seems fine now and I'm going to have to wrap her ears again. I let her play in the pool for a bit while they were out but it's time for them to go back up.
