Meet Melrae's Surprise Package !!

Since we've been home Kali has been keeping herself pretty isolated. Instead of sleeping and spending most of the day by the breakfast room window in her bed, she's been in our bedroom on the opposite side of the house. Well, today was sort of a breakthrough. ,

I have her crate on my side of our bed along with her calming bed next to it. She sleeps in one or the other every night. Since Annie has been home she has slept on the other side of the house. 😕 Either sleeping in the breakfast room or family room all night. I move Annie's crate into our bedroom for the night, not far from Kali's bed. So it seems Kali is always as far away from Annie as possible. 🤦‍♀️

Last night Kali slept in the family room but she was the one who gave a soft bark at 4:15 this morning to go out! Annie slept all night from about 9:00 on! I was in a pretty deep sleep myself when I thought I heard Annie. I got up and I can see Kali sitting there and I realized it was her that made the sound. She never really barks to go out but makes more of a moaning or soft bark. LOL Hard to describe it.

So I thought wow, okay! Let's all go outside! So I got Annie out of her crate and we all went outside. I brought them inside and they both ate and then we all went outside again. Kali disappeared somewhere while Annie and I played for a bit and then she fell asleep in my arms. She thinks she's a lap dog.

Then I went to get dressed and Kali was back in the room again! I was very surprised. She hasn't actually come out on her own without me calling her for 2 days. So the three of us went for a little walk and even though Annie is a little rude and obnoxious LOL Kali kind of put up with her and probably snapped at her once or twice when she was really obnoxious. And that set the stage. 😉 It was good.

My husband and I had everything mowed before we left for KY. But then we got all that rain and oh my God the grass is so freaking long! And of course I usually do a lot of mowing during the day when hubby is gone but now I can't because I have a baby. 😏

So he cut some of it last night and took off today so he is out there mowing as we speak. Thank God because is so annoying with small dogs! It's some of it's almost over Annie's head! That's long! But they trudged through it and we walked all the way to the back of the property and back to the house and around the driveway.

So Annie's been sleeping for the last hour or two! That's what happened yesterday in the evening. She was out with us for a long time. And she slept through the night! Lots of fresh air.

But I'm really glad to see Kali out with us more now. She doesn't like when Annie runs at her but just for her to make an appearance was great! She probably missed our walks!

Still sleeping!

And yes, I have the calming bed inside the crate. 😇 The first night she cried and screamed and carried on in her crate. I took her outside twice and made sure that she had pottied. When she didn't calm down I thought, I hate the idea of them sleeping on that bare plastic tray. So I took one of the calming beds (I have 3 😉) and put it in there! She was very comfortable and went right to sleep. Now. I know when she's throwing a fit in there and not tired, she could tear that up. So I can't leave it in there unattended. But for times like this, it works perfectly. And so much more comfortable!

But anyway I can't believe she's still sleeping. I'm going to have to do a walk like that everyday so I can put her in her crate for a long nap, set up a camera on her, and go out to the barn and clean stalls!🤣

I always feel sorry for the resident dog whenever a new Doberman puppy shows up because they are so demanding I’m sure they take all the attention away from the older dog. Probably that is what Kali is experiencing. She was the center of attention before and now she’s not. Sounds like she is adjusting and maybe being doted on a little bit would do her some good lol. For now Annie is the same size, but soon enough, she will get bigger. It’s good that Kali is asserting herself in that regard.

The pics of a sleeping Doberman puppy 🥰 omg, I wish I had memories of anything other than a crazy puppy 🤣

LOL you always toss something in there that makes me want to hit funny. :D

I'm glad Kail is getting a little more used to her now and letting her know what unacceptable behavior is. If she establishes that now, she probably won't have any problems as Annie grows.

But I'm really glad to see Kali out with us more now.
That's really heartwarming stuff to me. I am having that in my house now too (all of it), but things warm up a little bit each day. I try to do something individual with each dog alone so they each get both time away from the others, and time alone with me.

And dear Lord she is so cute!

Good grief, I have been busy and missed this! Sweet Annie is adorable and I have no doubt in the best of homes. Congratulations! They truly are our ❤️ Dogs.

They sleep A LOT as puppies!! Pretty much after every potty break and a play session I put mine into their crate for a nap. Crate training is really easy then. They learn to not fuss while you do things around and outside the house and they will let you know when they have to potty, so really training two things at once!

Annie had a little spot on her ear that needed a little more healing. But today I thought they looked good enough to try posting!

Now keep in mind I haven't posted a puppy since 1995! I did Buddy for one year that was flopping but I didn't do it that long. So this was a challenge! LOL But it didn't turn out too bad. My husband held her which really was a help. The post were pre-made by Melissa the Breeder and they were a little long so I cut them. One ear looks like it's really loose and the other one looks better but hours later they are still on her. So this is a win!

When I applied the glue my husband said, what is that?? I told him it's glue to hold the backer rod. He said, how are you going to get that off her!🤯 I laughed and said, don't worry, I have adhesive remover.

When I was done, she did the typical shaking her head, scratching with both her front legs and back legs and generally looking like this is not going to work. But I had posted her when she was ready for a nap. So first I held her for a while so I can control the scratching and then I put her in her crate. She was tired and it didn't take long before she was asleep. 😴

When she got up we went for our usual walk and there was probably once or twice where she tried to scratch the posts. But, All In all, I thought she did great!

Oh! The funniest thing just happened. Annie was sitting by the back door playing with the toy and I was watching her. My husband was coming in from mowing and walking up the back steps. When she heard him she jumped up and barked! 😝 Two little, woo woo woo, woo woo woo! And then I swear she let out a little growl! It was hysterical. My husband walked in and I said, did you hear her barking?! He said, I thought that was her. And then he petted her and said, are you barking at me?? LOL She was fine when he came in. Maybe just the footsteps on the deck startled her? I don't know but I've never thought a 9-10 week old puppy would put on a display like that!

LOL not much startles these lines but they do start keeping a watchful eye on things when they start making themselves at home.

@MyBuddy not bad for not posting in ages LOL! I would tape the tips so they don't curl back or catch on anything. As you get comfortable you will find you don't need as much tape on the rest of the ear either. Typically a piece around the base and one at the tip.

That's basically what I did. But then adding the brace makes it look like I bandaged the whole dang thing! LOL. I'm going to try using a shorter piece of tape for the top and bottom. I'll get better. 😉

And she's already holding her ears a little where I can see slack in the brace. So we'll see how long I need that.
