Dog ate her diaper

So my husband put Pepper in her crate and she ate half of her cloth diaper and half of the maxi pad. He did not take the diaper off which must be done btw… 😐😐

Her vet is closed. Should I take her to emergency? She’s acting fine now.

Not sure if inducing vomiting is ok to do?

I’m hoping to wait it out and see if she will pass it?

Oh boy Pepper... It depends how long ago it happened. If you caught it within an hour, I would induce vomiting. It was longer than that, you might want to see the emergency vet since it's probably working its way through the digestive tract already. I know those pads won't break down and neither does cloth.

We just left the emergency vet. They induced vomiting with eye drops. She had a good amount come up in her vomit. Although, the vet said not much pad seemed to come up. Bland diet for 3 days starting tomorrow and keep an eye on her. I’m hoping she’s ok. So stressful. Trying not to be mean to my husband mistakes happen.

I've never heard of that before but it's good it worked for the most part.
I know it was different. Both eyes they administered the eye drops, we waited for about 15 mins and she started to get sick. The first round was the pink cloth diaper pieces and some maxi pad.

Then a little more and then bile. They gave her a shot to stop the vomiting. They said she’s be extra sleepy for the night.

I just worry and hope she’ll be ok.

Oh dear......never a dull moment! Hoping and praying she's okay! I have a feeling it's gonna be a long night for you!

She and I slept the night, thankfully. Up this am to eat her bland diet and drink water seems like she’s feeling ok.

Going to take a walk and see how she does hard to tell since she’s in heat too. 😐

She can never turn a game of ball down so hoping that’ll be my gauge on how she’s feeling.

And this is making us all laugh despite the scare we’ve had.
Reminds me of the makeshift panties I made for my last Dobe born in 1991. She had one heat and then I spayed her. As far as I know they didn't have fancy pants in those days, but I didn't subscribe to dog magazines and there was no internets, so I don't know what breeders did for pants back then?

Sorry for Peppers mishap, but sounds like she'll be OK. She definitely has the Eating Things disorder. :(

lol it works right?! And much cheaper than those fancy pants that now have been eaten.

She does have an eating issue and apparently her brother does too. I only know her because we connected through fb.

I can’t believe he put her in there with her panties on I was so upset.

Can't comment on the diaper cause don't know anything about it but...

Having had one that was a frequent pad eater I can share some info / experiences with respect to that.

Changing the pad more frequently helped a bunch here. Noticed pretty quickly that she would not eat lightly soiled pads but once they got nasty - Those things became 'maxi snacks'. Solution was to change the pads for that particular dog much more frequently than any of the other girls. (twice as many as her littermate that was NOT a pad muncher)

That and thinner pads... If you know you are going to be changing them more frequently and that they are not going to be collecting as much - You can go with thinner pads that cost less money AND there is less material there for the dog to ingest even if it wanted to...

Have never noticed an occasional ingested pad cause any issues when left to come out the other end on its own. Yes, I will fuss at the dog for eating her stuff that she was not 'supposed' to eat but NO, not going to freak out or worry about that stuff causing any sort of obstruction.

As far as the crate stuff and the husband not taking the diaper off -

Depends on the dog AND how much supervision is going on. If you are planning to lock the dog in a crate for a good many hours with no supervision at all than removing the underwear might very well be a good idea. Dog is not going to be harmed by them cleaning themselves as they wish while they are confined in said crate.

Some dogs do just fine with underwear and pads and never mess with them at all...

You don't know if you don't test the dog.

If you train that girl right - She will be able to wear her underwear whenever YOU choose and not be messing with them.

:)

I'm glad she's doing better today. You could always cut a tail hole in those underwear if you want.

Thank goodness woke up today and Pepper had a normal bm. It was 48 hours last night with no bm. I was losing it and worried we’d be making a trip again today.

She’s acting completely normal which was good to see, just wanted her to poop. Today she did! 😅

That's a relief!!!

I completely understand the weight off your shoulders…I can’t tell you how many times I was wishing for them to have a BM. It really takes poop patrol to a higher level.

Ragnar was the worst…that asshat ate everything. Freyja has eaten two maxipads on separate occasions- was worried about this because the pads absorb moisture and swells larger. Fortunately, she passed the pads. Really insane that everytime they poop, I say a big “Hell yeah” inside my head.

So glad she is better now.

Curious…
What was the time between ingestion and vet inducing vomiting?
