Dog ate her diaper

I completely understand the weight off your shoulders…I can’t tell you how many times I was wishing for them to have a BM. It really takes poop patrol to a higher level.

Ragnar was the worst…that asshat ate everything. Freyja has eaten two maxipads on separate occasions- was worried about this because the pads absorb moisture and swells larger. Fortunately, she passed the pads. Really insane that everytime they poop, I say a big “Hell yeah” inside my head.

So glad she is better now.

What was the time between ingestion and vet inducing vomiting?

It’s the worst feeling isn’t it?

I know my husband feels awful and it fault was a mistake. I now know I must always put her away in her crate because nothing goes in with her ever.

Vet said she didn’t see much pad, but I did see some when she puked. I mean she’s acting fine, eating, and now has pooped I guess she’s ok?

It’s top notch poop patrol for sure. It just gets old the constant stress!

4:10 pm he put her in her crate and I left for kid pick up/drop off as did he. I got home around 5:30 pm and went to get her.

Got to the vet around 5:45 pm so we made it in time as they say 1-2 hours is best for inducing vomiting.

15 min after the eye drops she started to grimace and a lot of cloth diaper and pad came up.
Thankfully!


I washed a pad by accident this weekend and it disintegrated in the wash and dryer. All that was left was this absorbent pad thing which tore up easily when I ripped it. Then the plastic liner which would be my concern. I did notice a small sliver of plastic in her bm tho am. Hoping she keeps passing it all.

You know, I had similar experiences with Annie! You remember the video I posted from my cameras when we left the house that day. She was pulling at that thing with a vengeance! But she didn't get it off.

But her last Heat she had worked her way out of the panties, ate one or two of the pads and just in general gave me a headache through the whole ordeal! Ask @JanS ! I was ready to spay her right then and there myself! Just kidding !! But I was ready to do it sooner than later. She was scaring the hell out of me!

When I was missing the pads she had me doubting myself. Did I put one on her or was it two? did she eat that one or is it someplace in the house? I mean, I was going nuts. She hated it. I hated it. I was beside myself.

I finally decided to use the original panties that I got from my doggie Boutique in town. (DO you remember that story?) They're similar to the ones you have on Pepper now. A fuller coverage then the other, which is more like a thong. The only thing is the hole for the tail was not in the right spot. It actually was right where she was bleeding.

So here's me!

I sewed up the hole!

Yes, her tail is covered but now the coverage is like a diaper and very secure. And I bought extras! and thought unless she is really bleeding heavily I am just going to use those with no pads and just cycle through them since now I have like five, I believe. I would just take them off, put on a clean one, spray the soiled one with spray and wash, throw it in my washing machine on a short cycle and hang to dry. It worked! I didn't have to worry about her taking it off or eating a pad!

Once I had that routine down pat I felt a lot better about the whole thing. And knowing that I only have one more heat to go, I was not pulling my hair out.

And walking our property with our daughter one day shortly afterwards she found a poop with the pad in it! So she did ingest it and passed it. But yes, like you I was freaking out thinking about her eating those!

So I feel ya! And hope you two can work out a plan that works for you too!

And make your appointment for her spay now! As soon as Annie has her last one (around the holidays. ) I will be calling for her appointment for just after her 2 year old birthday in March! It should be perfect timing between heats.

Yes, they will drive us insane! I said to my husband we will it stop?! She just keeps doing something.

Constantly on her for trying to eat stuff with commands and her e collar for back up, but she still goes for certain things.

I do remember Annie doing the same, but I don’t recall her eating the pads also. Geez why literally the worst thing they can eat! I was so worried because of the pad swelling and then the plastic on it too.

What a relief you found it in her bm!

Haha yes, the tail hole is right on the vulva go figure. Good call to sew it up!

These have buttons that I use to help move the hole up over her vulva, but then it slides back down smart to ex the pad as having more of these diapers to wash it’s easier and safer. I do feel with these diapers she’d have a hard time getting them off and the material is almost waterproof, harder to get a bite.

I’m going to get her spay set up soon just have to time it right. She’ll I’m sure have a false pregnancy again

Sorry for your ordeal and I feel you are right to be concerned when these things happen, because blockage has killed many dobermans! Something simple like that plastic wrapping around their intestines, or it wadding up and being unable to pass....it is a serious issue if they can't get rid of whatever they ate. Glad she is cleaned out, and back to being Pepper!

Pepper will 100 percent consume anything if she’s not monitored. That’s just how she is unfortunately.

It was a mistake too much going on that day and he forgot.

They charged us 470, so really not that bad and hopefully she is going to be ok.

I agree with you 100% that when you got a dog like that you is better off crating them (with nothing they could possibly ingest) if you can't directly supervise.

My personal 'underwear rule #1' here is 'If your ass takes off the underwear - That ass better be in the crate'. So long as you stay in said crate I am not going to fuss.

Best thing I ever did with Agatha was start her underwear training before she 'needed' it.
