Bruise?!?

So, I just paid way to much at the vet to find out Shanoa has a bruise :) She's had this swollen area up on the back of her back leg (sort of near her butt) for a couple of weeks. It'd get bigger, then smaller, then bigger. Finally decided I'd better take her in and make sure it was nothing to worry about.

Just a bruise, probably from daycare. They drained some fluid, but it's still pretty swollen. Over $100 for that diagnosis! We have awesome vets, and I love them, but man...I felt kind of dumb. Guess I should have waited to go in, but I was paranoid.

Anyone else ever had a dog with a bruise? They said it would likely take several weeks to go down. Just wondering what your experience is.

Don't feel dumb Meadowcat. Better to be safe than sorry. It could have been something worse. I'm glad it wasn't though. No, I've never had that happen to either of my guys. Cuts and little sprains but no bruises.

I had a lump come up on my last dobes chest, took her to the vets, he said she had likely bumped herself and bruised it and to put some linament on it, give it a little time and if it didn't go down he would drain it, and it was fine.

my lil girl Lexus had a NASTY bruise a while back... it was huge, I thnk it may of been from a collision with a dobe thru the doggy door... as it started to heal the middle of it like broke open... so i had to wrap it... i didnt have guaze so used TP.... that was mixed results... it didnt stay on, but the part of her bruise that opened up attached to her sore and helped it clot... so...sheesh.. what a mess..

Bank got two Bruises in his sides i don't remember how much they charged us the vet just it and said he believed it was a bruise poked it with a needle and took some liquids out and then reassured us it was a bruise and he prescribed us some medication that took the bruise away

Hey like everyone else said better safe than sorry- Hell I Titan to the vets for the dumbest things when he was younger only to get there and have him act like a car when you bring it to the mechanics. "Noise there is no Noise- there is nothing wrong with your car"
LOL

Rule 101 always have gauze, vet wrap and surgical tape in the house.

Also if they amend 3501 you would be able to deduct something like that in the future!

Holy superficial hematoma batman

I've taken my furkids in and find out it was nothing....to me it was worth every penny for peace of mind......Glad it's nothing but a bruise....give her some extra loving and few extra treats and she will be good as new....

long time ago i saw a little chi with a bruise from his neck to his back legs, he got shaked and bit by a GSD, his whole belly and chest was just one big bruise, poor little fella and it took for ever to go away and i saw a big bruise on one of my grabdpa's horses after she got bred from our stalion, he bit her in her neck to hold on:blink: and since she was white, you see it pretty good.

One of my dogs misjudged a jump through a doggy door and clipped his back just in front of his hips pretty good. Even though I knew what had happened it produced such a big lump and so quickly that I dragged him off to work with me--his vet took a look at it and did a fine needle aspiration and found only blood which just confirmed what I suspected anyway. He had me cold pack it for two days and then start heat packing and warned me it would probably take six weeks or more to revert to normal. It took all of six weeks and that dog HATED getting cold packed--he though the heat packs were OK.

And if it's any sort of consolation I came home from work on Friday after running a bunch of errands and hadn't been there for even an hour when one of the dogs started to cough--he coughed like he was trying to hack up a lung and I peering down his throat and could see nothing--felt down his throat (good old show dogs--they'll put up with anything) and could feel nothing) but he continued to cough.

I had visions of dragging him into emergency in the middle of the night so called work and said I was bringing him in and why--one of our fill in vets was free when we got there--and it's exactly like taking a car to a mechanic--I realized about half way back to work that he wasn't coughing any more. So she tried to elicit a cough from him--nothing--listened to his heart and lungs--no fluid. So one of the assistants who spends his spare time teaching the employee dogs tricks showed our relief vet what he could do (shake, high fives) and made me show her how he stacked when he was being a show dog--he got to sit on the vets knee and generally had a great time and we drove home through all the Friday night traffic.

Naturally he hasn't coughed since. You'd think I'd have had dogs for enough years that I wouldn't get excited about stuff like that--generally I don't but that stupid cough was so unexpected and so persistant that I bit the bullet on it--good thing I work there...

Geez, if this doesn't sound like Red Chrissy's Ella??

Our vet recommended putting warm compresses on for 20 minutes at a time 3 times a day. I just laughed - there's no way she'd sit still for even 5 minutes! Especially if I'm pressing something strange against her leg :)

No real change yet, but that's okay. It sounds like it'll take a while to go down.

Yea, we always want instant results but unfortunately, I think this will take a while. Does she seem like she even notices it?
