Water on elbow

What was the cause of the water on the elbow?

I would never personally attempt it myself with the risk of infection or something else but I'm glad it worked for you.

Good for you…
One would need to make sure the process was sterile- clean the needle, clean the site and afterwards keep area clean.
Would be smart to Google the region in question to gain some anatomical idea of what you are sticking into- no nerves, blood vessels, or organs…
But theoretically, if it’s superficial and non threatening, should be an easy procedure.

Is the fluid coming out clear or does it contain blood.
I had a situation once where a fluid sac was forming on the back below the shoulders that was a broken blood vessel. We eventually had to have the vessel sutured, Just another weird thing that can happen.

Was it a hygroma? Typically its just better to leave those alone. With time, and lots of soft bedding, they will go down on their own. Opening them in any way, especially because of their location often coming in contact with the ground, has a high chance of infection. I'm glad you were lucky to not experience this. Still, $1700 seems incredibly high.

Vet drained it but the hygroma came came. Vet said he would not drain it again due to infection. Its huge. Any of you run into this?
You need antibiotics and try to keep inflammation down. Soft bedding only and keep the opening if there is one, clean. They sell braces online to help pad the elbows more. If he gets one on the other side, do not open it to drain it... it will go down on its own it just takes a lot of time.

That is one thing I can say that I never experienced...I thought I had seen all the weird stuff with these guys!

We had a hygroma with Dax. His breeder recommended something like Yucca plant supplement (don't quote me) but it made no difference. The passing of time was what saw it go away.

I admire your boldness in draining that yourself, and I'm glad no infection resulted. I imagine you soaked the needle/syringe in rubbing alcohol, or boiled it prior to using it. ?
