Yeah I know I hope I'm not over feeding him or something! His dad was 105 pounds.

May I ask what you feed your pup and how many servings/size per day?

Here's a pic of him at 4 months then 7! View attachment 41030
I don't think you can really make a dog grow too big or too fast by overfeeding.

I was feeding mine Taste of the Wild. It was the High Prarie formula (main ingredient: bison). Not the puppy formula. That may sound weird, but I am finding out with this pup that the dog food scene has changed in that a lot of the high quality foods claim to be suitable of all life stages. If others on this forum chime in, you'll see them refer to it as "ALS" (all life stages).

I have just about completed a transition of my pup over to Earth Born. It's the Coastal Catch formula. (main ingredient: Salmon and Cod).

Expensive foods, but not the most expensive out there. The concept is you can feed less of a quality food than you feed of a less-expensive food.

I have been feeding 4.5 cups per day, spread over 3 feedings. I recently upped that to 5.25 cups. It's weird because if you read the dog food bag, I'm feeding too much. But I think the amounts I'm feeding are in line with what others feed their pups. My pup is voracious – a real chow hound. Scarfs all I feed him and acts pitiful, like he's still hungry.

In my experience (and perhaps IceMan would like to chip in here) size dependent on the lines been bred to. In eastern Europe over the past couple of years the terrier gene has been bred out and whether there has been gene tampering who knows - I would for eg not trust buying a dog out of Serbia because there is no legislation there whatsoever and the Serbian Kennel Club of whatever its called has been kicked out of IDC because of shenanians so there is no telling what gets bred there - however having said that, a lot of the East European countries have turned to breeding for a much larger molluser style head on a much larger frame and males are generally a lot bigger than those bred in Western Europe. I have 2 Euro Imports. One out of the Dura Lex Polonia Kennel in Poland and she is a VERY standard size bitch ... 25 1/2" tall weiging 70lbs. I have a male out of Diamante Nero and he is 28 1/2" tall and weighs 90lbs. NOTHING excessive. I personally will NOT support breeders who breed for an oversize dog, just as I won't support those who breed dilutes or z's. I am ALSO very picky when it comes down to pedigrees. Beccause its been said that at least 67% of Dobermanns die of DCM, and because I have European Dobermanns, I like to keep away from those carrying heavy influences of Gino Gomez Del Citone, Fedor Del Nasi - which today is almost an impossible feat taking into consideration that Fedor sired roughly 400 litters in lifetime, and when one goes scouting litters available on Dobermann Review and Dobermann.com it is ABOUT IMPOSSILE to find a pedigree sans Fedor or Gino for that matter .......

You cannot make a dog grow bigger with food - only make it fatter and give it a dropped topline, pasterns and as it ages have issues with its joints and make it struggle to walk ..... it is very important what you feed your dog and how much .....
[DOUBLEPOST=1426779709,1426779088][/DOUBLEPOST]Tad, I feed Canidae Pure Sky which is their version of Grain Free - it used to be an all life stages, but changed to an adult food about 2 years ago and is comparable to TOTW .... and believe me the portion sizes they recommend would leave both my euro's neither who are fat actually carry no excessive weight thin as pencils. According to the Canidae recommendation a dog weighing around 70lbs who exercises should be fed roughly 3 cups per day and a dog weighing 90lbs with exercise 4 1/2 cups - my bitch gets 5 cups per day and my dog 6 cups - and these amounts maintain them at a very constant weight - both of them are committed athletes and we take the out 3x per day and they run and I play fetch with them with a chucker ball or frisbees for roughly 2 hours - I do the high energy stuff for about 10 minutes a session with each dog, and for the rest of the time I give them either a rope or ball to carry in their mouths and all they do is laps in my largest dog run - my Euro's also run together ....

I can't help there. I just know the pedigree of the Dobes I've had, but I don't really know the ins and outs and fine details. I've gotten on sites such as working dog.eu and pedigree database, but they don't seem to do much for me. Dobeqeust is another one that seems to be devoted to conformation Dobes.

I really hope someone does help you here though, as I'd watch with fascination! :)

Send me a pm with your dogs full names and their Sire and Dam and I'll have a look and see if I can find anything for you.

105lbs! Was his sire grossly over weight? That's not anywhere near the standard for American or Euro! That dog must have been a beast! That's almost the size of two dobies!

Yeah the father was a little chubby mixed with sheer bulk, definitely not what I want for my pup. He's just growing without end and its all muscle for now. I'm making sure to exercise a lot with him so he doesn't end up a fatty. Can you share more about your doberman? How do I keep mine skinny lol

I think a lot of it just has to do with bloodlines. Sounds like your guy came from a behemoth! No one's going to mess with him on the playground! Gretchen has pretty standard lines. It sounds like you have a growing boy so you just need to make sure he's getting his nutrients. Gretchen has slowed down on growing so I can now monitor it better. I like to be able to see all of the ribs when they turn, or the last 2 when they're standing. One important thing if you have a big training day, with lots of treats, then you should take their food portion down. I also take it down a bit if I give them a bone. Vise versa if we have a heavy walking day, or hiking day with lots of activity, then I up her food from 2 cups to 2 heeping cups for one meal.

I think G. gets a lot of food for her figure but she's rarely caged and gets a lot of running around the yard during the day so I think she probably burns more than the average joe dobe.

Salisa, did you buy dog from East Coast Dobermans or from a Broker ?? I have looked at the Pedigrees and the bitch in question is owned by East Coast Dobermans in New York State. Not a breeder I've ever heard of, but looking at the pedigree full of Altobello and also contains Fedor ....
[DOUBLEPOST=1426795088,1426794585][/DOUBLEPOST]The Sire it would seem is also owned by East Coast Dobermans ..... I see there is a touch of North American bloodlines in there, but for the most it looks to be a 90% Euro breeding. Von Presilla is a Hungarian breeder who has had some good stuff, but also some bad breeding decisions.

Yes I did. I didn't know too much about Fedor until I saw his name in question on a different forum. I'm hoping since he's far down the pedigree line it shouldn't be too much of an issue. I'm not worried about where I bought him. I was just curious about what country his lineage is from.

Lipar Land, yet another Serbian breeder - once again as I said, I don't do business with Serbian breeders - just too much at stake - not trying to run people down, just stating what my own actions would be. You obviously did your research well before buying and were satisfied with what you saw. What work applications are you doing with your dog ??

Thank You! What have you heard about Von Presilla? Off to google [emoji1]

Hey no problem, if you type in the names of all the dogs listed on your 3 generation pedigrees you'll find them on Dobermann Review with their pedigrees available. That will tell you exactly what the heritage of each dog is. Good luck and enjoy your dog !!!!!

Yes I saw both Romeo and Bella quite a few times. Romeo is quite beautiful IMO. I have just been doing basic obedience stuff. I was thinking about eventually doing agility with him. He's got quite the drive in him.

Some of Von Presilla's stuff is good, some not so - and to get recognition at IDC the breeders often times will not make the wisest decisions - we have to remember that for most breeders who are competing at the top level, its all about the win - and not about the dog or the puppy buyers .....
[DOUBLEPOST=1426795693][/DOUBLEPOST]Absolutely NOTHING WRONG with doing obedience or agility. Dobies will work for you - not all dogs off a particular litter even off the very best out there, will do you a great long bite, or have perfect conformation .... The most important fact is that you are doing something with him.

Does anyone know a breeder named cristina oprescu , game on dobermanns and argentinian black shadow kennels?thanks!
