A Doberman/Pit bull Mix

honestly I'm tired of arguing with you over petty nonsense. Please don't call me dear. Have a good weekend, I'm going to go enjoy mine now instead of argue with someone, we're not gonna see eye to eye on this so agree to disagree.

I think someone else has just got really petty and pissy...but you know what, I agree. More beer for you.

Well you said in Japan pre WWII they were much longer lived. I was wondering how long that is?
What is the average expectancy today?

Almost in their twenties. Like many natural breeds. The American Akita is seeing diminished life expectancy currently as do many AKC breeds. Dogs are no longer bred for purpose in a natural way. They are bred with a view to isolate specific color formations and looks. This is often done to the detriment of the breed.

You know?

Just throwing it out here.
You have about 10 posts here, all of them in this thread.

It might appear to some folks that you're here with a chip on your shoulder to argue and no real interest in the rest of the forum or being a member of the community.
So it might be a good idea to watch your tone or....:ban?:

If you try you might look around at the rest of the forum to check out some resources, food or product reviews, there's some fun threads in off topic chat, photos, etc.
There's a ton of great content here.

Don't forget temperament;)

'Just throwing it out there?' lol Good one!

BAN? For what? For not swearing, or NOT being abusive? For having a discussion? With logical arguments?

Thank you for your suggestions as what I should be looking at but I am currently enjoying THIS topic.

Quote: I have seen comments like 'monstrosity', 'horrible', 'vile' to refer to both people and animals. For many, love of a breed, a team, a nation goes too far. For many, their dogs become status symbols.

Just as before, I could very well be mistaken, but I don't remember seeing any of those words (or synonyms) mentioned here. However, this thread originated 7 years ago, so it may very well have happened. I certainly can't imagine anyone I've come to know here on the forum saying any such thing!
Anyway, this is a forum for Doberman fanciers, so it is likely that most of us want the best for this purely bred dog; that doesn't mean we don't belong to other all-breed forums or even volunteer/donate to all-breed shelters/rescues.
Like you guys said, though, agreeing to disagree is a good thing; plus, people disagreeing is far more entertaining than agreeing all the time!
Welcome again, and enjoy the balance of your weekend.
Oh, I forgot, I think we'd be hard-pressed to find a "status symbol" Dobe owner here; our dogs are family members (I like my boy more than most of my family!!)

All I'm saying is that I'm not 'touchy' about the subject. I LOVE my Dobermans. And I want the best for the breed. I want to see it live longer, get healthier, get stronger.

Simply breeding exclusively within the breed forever will eventually result in such diminished gene pool that only a handful of lines will remain and we will see the end of the breed.

I don't want this to happen. So we should not be so quick to judge mixing up the breed, we may eventually have to in order to ensure its survival.

If arguing about it over a series of posts is an anathema to some and gets their head too hot to the point of issuing threats then it should actually make us all wonder about where we are going as a community. There's love and there's fetish.

There should be no taboos in discussion. Argumentation is not 'picking an argument', it is elucidating and backing up one's point with facts and logic.

Ban me for it.

It's refreshing to have subject matter that is not usually discussed in earnest as this topic is being discussed. Lots of points of interest and thought, in spite of it being an older thread.

What fun or how interesting would life be if everyone agreed?
Seeing the other side of the fence allows us to be educated on other views regardless of whether we agree or not.:welcome:

Thank you, please also have a look at another member's post about Doberman being an endangered breed due to too much inbreeding. Simply being 'a reputable breeder' does not fix a dwindling gene pool. We may HAVE to mix it up and soon.

No one threatened you, sir.
To threaten to ban someone it would seem to me one would have to have the powers to ban someone....you know, to carry out said threat.;)
I'm not a moderator therefore I do not have such power and can't be taken as a threat.

What you failed to grasp from that post is that the condescending tone of your post, "dear" have you coming off quite "pissy" at a few moments and given your sticking to one thread and debate you appear a bit Troll like. And yes I did just see your post in that other thread.
Maybe you're new to the internet but no matter the web page trolls tend to get the boot.
Hopefully we're all just off to a rough start that can smooth out.
Like has been suggested by others we all dig pics, all breeds, mixes, and mutts.

I don't have a problem with the word and think it means something different than how most use it.
To me a mix is like your dog, pit/Dobe.
A mutt to me would be for instance a pit/Dobe mix crossed with a Lab/Coonhound mix. Or the result of any two mixed breeds bred together. If that makes any sense to anyone?

You're wiggling around it but fair does. I couldn't really care much. I am a man that's motivated by his principles rather a seeker of agreement and 'friends at all costs'.
What you definitely grasped is that I was responding to the lady's condescending tone. You also grasped that she did storm out hissing when she saw I actually had an argument.
You also do seem to be too quick to judge someone. The whole point of following a thread and engaging in debate is to have a discussion. A troll, harasses people online for the sake of harassment. I am advocating a point. Rather respectfully.
I am not new to the internet. I am an avid user and participant in many forums.
I am however allergic to the attitudes in the purebreds community. Mixed dogs are essential as an other thread I am participating in advocates. The Doberman gene pool is dwindling and by 2039 despite 'responsible' inbreeding 100% of European line Dobermans will have DCM.
As a lover of the breed and a father to my four-legged children I am advocating that we change our attitude towards mixing up the Doberman in order to ensure the viability of the breed.
I hope this makes more sense.

It's nice to have fresh views from new members, especially when we all have a passion for the breed and the health of the breed.

I have learned many things from the forum and hope to learn more.
One thing I can say is once you have a Doberman you will always have a Doberman. I got my first red boy in the 70's.

@Anubis81 you just joined and every post I've seen from you is argumentative. Why don't you post an introduction thread to tell us more about you and your dogs instead of being on the defensive all the time.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree with you, but this is a friendly community and you just came in to start challenging people rather than trying to be friendly with anyone.

Here's a suggestion, instead of random people coming for me, why don't you live up the title of 'Friendly Community' ?
Practice what you preach Sir.

I am not challenging 'people', I am discussing ideas. If you are your ideas then you will live a very vexed life. My only concern is the breed and its wellbeing. Not your opinion of me.

I have not been threatening, abusive, disparaging and demeaning to anyone. Your point is moot.

I could be mistaken again, but I'm almost certain the username JanS belongs to a female, so "ma'am" would (though unnecessary) be more appropriate.
Of course, a member's gender is completely irrelevant, but even on this pretentious and elitist pure bred forum the use of any title is superfluous.
