Pepper 🌶️

Could it have been an abrasion from the inside out, like passing a little sliver of a dry bone that she may have found and eaten? Try as we might, when going off leash in the wild, they can find little pieces of stuff and eat and swallow without us seeing a thing... Asha finds really dry old bones like deer leg bones and when she bites down on it, it shatters like glass. I know she gets some of these every so often and if I yell at her to put it down, she does, but she swallows whatever little pieces are in her mouth.

Pepper does do the same in the woods. Hence, the diarrhea incidents too. A lot of the time she stands there and looks at whatever it is and at me over and over… therefore, I know she found something and I say leave it lol. She gives herself away it’s really funny and I appreciate the “look mom I found something”.

I do think it was an outside incident like she rubbed something or hit it. Today the black skin is really raw looking. It does look like it was torn off on whatever she came in contact with. She did this to her snoot once and this looks the same just a larger portion missing on her butt. Today it’s not weeping thankfully that was bothering her when it was doing that.

Like a piece of paw pad that got cut by glass, old tin can, or something else sharp enough stuck in the dirt...she sat on?

Feel for ya...
looking at BYB Bonnie the trail dog...

Who surreptitiously taste tests especially yummy to dog things if I dont watch her like a hawk...."leave it!"...

but still occasionally shows bits of bark in the expert poopologist scat checks, from time to time.

Mouthy And an avid gopher hole digger.

Its like following an 80# toddler into a swamp...thats gotta taste test everything new...

Nope, "dont eat the scorpions"..."stink bugs", "skinks, salamanders, lizards, honeybees," etc etc..
"SNAKE!" She knows from avoidance training, twice...and jumps back from anything remotely like it.

Cant helicopter parent her...
Here's a day at the beach so tempted by the "sailers "- velellas

Have not tested the theory but pretty sure she'd puke her guts out if I let her indulge...😉

You can see she's a little disappointed...
"Cmon Gpa, just a couple nibbles, puleeze!"

Hmmm. You sure it wasnt the ghost of a racoon that took a bite out?
J/k...😉

Looks like she maybe hit a rock when she was in the creek. We have a lot of massive boulders, rocks, in our woods. It took a decent amount of the black off her rear end.

Lol you nailed it an 80 pound toddler! I say the same it’s like having a perpetual 2 year old. Watching their every move - not to be trusted. Same can’t helicopter forever, it is consuming, can’t we hike without me stalking you?!

We have really gotten past the eat all the things thank goodness. Lots of work and frustration on that issue.

Ouch a man of war! Pretty, but painful and I would assume not tasty. Her photo above lol the dobie sulk walk 😂

Oh the racoon 🦝 😂 now don’t scare me 😂 I’ll never be the same in the woods 🙃😂😫

Last Thursday night Pepper got into the smoker grease can. Thankfully, I realized it when she came inside. She immediately started pacing and whining. She did have a regular bm before bed so I figured we would just call vet in the am. Long night of whining and she got sick in her crate around 3 am. Thankfully, got into the vet asap and started meds on Friday. Vet said we caught the pancreatitis early on and to be aware of her developing more symptoms that may send us to the ER. She did say she was confident meds would work and Pepper was doing well she’d more than likely heal over the weekend. Of course as soon as we get home she started with diarrhea. I had to run back to the vet for pro pectalin, the vet is not close and I was exhausted.
Friday Pepper rested a lot and the meds made her super sleepy. Saturday not so much she wanted to go, but we took it easy. Sunday Pepper was back to business and those meds did not take the edge off lol. I couldn’t believe it she was full speed and ready to go!
Never a dull moment and very thankful she is healed and back to herself.

OMG. Now I'm headed out to the Traeger to find the nasty grease cup before "Eat All The Things" BYB Bonnie finds it...🤣
lol Empty it each use! My husband left the over off and we didn’t think and let her out. Even if you don’t empty it each time the cover does prevent them from going to the cup. Not sure I can eat smoked anything moving toward 🤮

I keep activated charcol on hand for ingesting unquestionable items....not sure if it would work on grease? But it absorbs poisons....like if you see they ate a mushroom, or some piece of dead carcass....or human medicine.
It's a black powder, that will stain anything! But a 1/2 teaspoon in yogurt is how I get mine to eat it. I bought it at a health food store, and the man told me he knows someone who used it for their goat who got into something....he suggested a teaspoon for a doberman, but I have used 1/2. Research shows vets use it, some in a slurry form, and syringe it into the mouth. I have used it for food poisoning for myself.

Oh wow interesting and good info for humans and animals! Thank you! I appreciate it as the applesauce has been magic! ❤️

The vet did say throwing up was helpful as she got a large amount of it up.
