Meet Melrae's Surprise Package !!

They look fantastic and that's going to be a really nice crop for her!

So today was Annie's last puppy shot appointment. She is too big for the puppy crate and I don't have a crate that will fit in my car so the dilemma was how easy is this going to be to drive with her in the backseat? Well, my husband decided to take us! And Thank God. Because just as we stepped out the door the storms we've been watching were dumping on us. 😖 I was really hoping they'd come through before we left but it was not to be.

So off we go with Annie in the back of my Equinox with both back seats down. I brought one of her dog pillows for her to lay on.

😁She looks like she has antlers!

And then about 5 minutes into our ride she pees on the pillow! Oh, Annie.🤦‍♀️ I guess that was my fault. I should have taken her out real quick right before we left but it was pouring and she had not gone that long ago so I thought she'd be okay. But being in the car loose like that for the first time she probably got a little excited. So I turned around in the front seat for the rest of the drive, tending to her, talking to her and trying to keep her calm. I also didn't want her to walk back there and walk on the pillow! 😖 Eventually I was able to flip the two sets of seats back in the upright position so that she was sitting on the back seat.

When we got there I went back to grab her and carry her in. My husband took my purse. We must have looked like we were mismatched! 🤣 But I wanted to carry her!

So we go in and she is just so excited to be out of the car that she was like an unruly Pony! Just so excited! We finally got her on the scale and the receptionist read it at 27 lb. I said, are you sure? On Sunday she was 30lbs. She was moving around too much. Let's give her time to settle and try again. She's like, Oh yeah, shes 31.7lbs! Wow.

When the doctor came in the room he said, My, she grew! ☺️ Everything looked good, temperature was great and he gave her the shot. She was also supposed to get the rabies but I asked if I could come back in a week or so so that she didn't get them both at the same time. If she has to get them, at least don't shoot her up with multiple! He was fine with that. He was going away next week so her appointment is not till July 15th.

A girlfriend and I were talking yesterday about spay and tacking the stomach. She said there is a vet who does the stomach tack all the time. And does it for all the rescues in the area. He's well-known for it and that I should check him out. I said well let me see what my vet says because I feel funny going to someone else when he's my vet. But it worked out well because I asked him if he does a stomach tack and he said no. It's one thing he never got into or learned. I said okay and I told him about the other vet and he knew all about him! I guess that guy is very well known! In fact, my vet told me he's usually booked months out so you might want to look into scheduling it. I said, Well I think I have time. 😉 But good to know that he is so well known and good at what he does. I think doing the stomach tack with the spay will be beneficial.

So when we came home I took the duvet cover off that pillow and washed it. The inside pillow also had a zipper but the inside of that pillow was demolished. It fell apart inside there and it wasn't worth trying to save. I told my husband that all I did was go to Farm and Fleet and pick up a cheap pillow and stuff it inside my duvet cover. Those pillows never could withstand a doberman pawing at them and will tear immediately. But the duvet cover is awesome! Almost like a canvas but softer and much more durable.

So off he went to Farm and Fleet! What a guy! He even posted me a picture and said, last one... they're on clearance! I said, Grab it! LOL

So everything worked out okay today. Now she's done with her puppy shots. And we have two other puppies to meet one day! My next door neighbor who used to have the bullmastiff just got themselves another male Bullmastiff puppy! Only a few weeks younger than Annie and the same color as the last one! I've only seen pictures of him (adorable!) because we both know we have to be sure we have all our shots before we start exchanging dog spit. LOL

And then this girlfriend that I was talking to yesterday is picking up a 9 month old male springer spaniel tomorrow in Indiana from a rescue/foster. She has a 4-year-old female Great Dane and a 9-year-old male Springer Spaniel at home along with two horses. She lives about 2 miles away.

And my girlfriend down the road in the other direction LOL has a male black German Shepherd mix probably about 5 years old.

So it looks like Annie will have some buddies to get to know real soon. 😁

I'm glad it went well and that you're through the initial puppy shots. Now you can do stuff.

I think doing the stomach tack with the spay will be beneficial.
I plan to have that done with Olive's spay too when the time comes but it's still going to be a while until she's 2.

I will not miss those razor sharp needle puppy teeth at all!
That's always a big milestone for me when those little shark teeth come out. I save as many as I can for each dog for the memories.

Now, remember I haven't had a actual Doberman  puppy in a very long time.😁 I have really been relishing every aspect of her while I can. You know how fast they grow! And Holy Cow, she has gotten big!

But I have to say the one thing I noticed recently is, either her fur is getting thicker or it's just gotten coarser. When we first got her at 9 weeks and all the way up to maybe 2 weeks ago maybe? She had a very sleek coat. Almost like a seal. It was so smooth! And within the last week or so I've noticed it feeling a little coarser. Still very shiny but more of a coarse feel to it and it made me think that it's probably also thicker and longer. A little bit more like an adult Doberman, I guess. Just an observation that I don't even know if I noticed with my first Doberman because I got him at 12 weeks.

I also noticed quite a while ago that she had more hair on her belly. If I recall, and I would have to look at some pictures that might help, but I sort of remember that I can see her belly button clearly. Now it's a little more hidden by hair. So her underbelly has gotten more hair too.

Just a couple of silly things that I've noticed with my baby growing up. ☺️

The final coat is yet to be determined since they don't shed out their puppy coat until they're almost a year. That said, Elroy has a courser coat than Olive and it's even a little wavy on his back by his tail.

I changed Annie's posts earlier this morning. This was how they looked at 6:50 a.m.

I went out to get the horses fed and ended up staying out there to clean stalls and came back in about 9:10. This is what greeted me!

I was pleasantly surprised! That was a few hours and the longest I've seen them stay up. Her right one, your left as you look at it, has been the weaker one. Usually in less than an hour it's flopping halfway down. So this was quite a success. Not that I'm done! She will get posted again soon. I'm just giving her a break for a while. But it was a pleasant surprise to see that! ❤️

They're coming along really nicely and she's starting to look so mature now!
Isn't she?! That third picture down she just looks Regal! 🥰She is getting so big! The other day when she was sprawled out like this, my husband said, she's really getting big! I said, yes she is! And strong too! You don't see a lot of those clumsy legs tripping over things anymore. Wait til I post a video of her running around our deck! Holy cow, she's like a little pony! 🐎 😄

Today was our last vet visit hopefully for the year. It was for her first rabies shot. Last time I was there, if you remember, she got her last puppy shot and they were going to give her the rabies shot along with that. I wanted to space it out. No problem with my vet so a few weeks down the road and here we are. The last time we took Annie in the car to our son's house we made the mistake of feeding her right before we left and she threw up.:green: This time I was going to the vet alone and with that in mind I thought it would be plenty of time between breakfast at 4:45 and our trip. She was fed around 4:45 a.m. leaving at 8am. I took my car and actually just put her in the backseat this time. I thought it would be a little better and I think it was. She was really good on the way there.

My biggest issue with her right now is pulling on the leash. I have actually been using leftover collars that I had and haven't bought one especially for her, waiting for her to finish growing. I've been just using whatever I have and adjusting them for size.

We talked about the prong collar recently and I knew I wanted to try that someday. So I ended up buying one a couple of weeks ago from Lola Limited. I haven't really been using it yet except for putting it on and walking her around for about 2 minutes and taking it off. Just to get her used to it and see how she reacted to it.

Well, my biggest fear with the way she was pulling was for the collars that I'm using to pull apart. They are not a buckle type. They are those snap type collars. They seem really strong but so is she! Last time my husband and I both took her to the vet he had commented on that breaking. Especially at the Vets in an unfamiliar area and with busy roads around.

So this morning he asked me if I was going to use the prong collar. I said, oh gosh no. I've only used it a few times and wasn't sure how she would be with it in an excitable situation. Besides, I thought I had another collar leftover from Buddy that I could use.

Well, Panic set in when I realized I had nothing that fit her! Not even a choke chain and I had at least four of them. They were either way too small or too big and I really don't like them. I think the way she pulled they would have really choked her.

So last minute decision was to take the prong. I put it on her to practice going in and out of the backseat of the car and she did pretty well! Very surprised. So I put her in the car, took it off and off we went.20240715_075031.webp

When we got there I put it back on and took her in and it was well worth it! She was very easy to control even though she was super excited. Got her on the scale and my goodness she was already up to 38.6 lb! 😳

Waiting for the vet, we suddenly heard a dog start barking! She was all ears. 20240715_082450.webpYes I had taken off her posts because they were ready to be changed and I knew it would give the vet an opportunity to look them over.

After the vet tech came in I got her up on the table.

When my vet came in she was like a wiggle worm! She was much bigger for the vet tech to hold! 😁He thought everything look great. Her teeth are coming in well, he's happy with her ears and how they've healed and said her weight was good. Took her temperature and gave her a shot and when he set her down it was like zoomies! LOL I finally put the prong collar back on her and we went out to the receptionist area.

The setup of his office is really nice. When you come out the exam room you go down a hallway and it tees. When you're exiting you go to the right and on the other side to the left is where people are coming in. You barely meet up with another dog.

But as we were leaving to the right, the entrance door to the left was open and there was a huge German Shepherd with three people trying to get on the scale. The scale is in the reception area but with the door open he happened to see us walk through and he started barking like a maniac! Scared the crap out of both me and Annie! LOL I was glad we didn't have to be in the room with them but because he was still in the reception area, but on the other side of the long reception desk and out of view, I stayed right by the door waiting for them to get him inside. Annie sat quietly by my side.

Probably a little bit scared. So was I! LOL finally they got the weight on the dog and the tech said you can bring him in. The lady who owned him looked relieved and she said, Praise God! and everybody laughed! Boy, he looked like a handful for that woman who looked almost my age. It was pretty funny.

When we came out the exit door and sat waiting for the shepherd to go in, straight ahead of us sat a woman with a chubby little bulldog. Annie kept giving a little growl. They were not a threat but I respectfully kept my distance while we waited for the shepherd to go in.

You can see I had the collar on her and I wasn't holding it tight or high up on her neck. It was just a little reminder for her not to pull me down. She was very good.😇

No problems on the way home.

But then probably a half hour after we got home she threw up. 😟 I didn't know if it was from the ride in the car or if it was from the rabies shot. She has never had a reaction to any of the other shots. And actually she's been in car rides before also. So I guess we'll never know but she seems fine now and I'm going to have to wrap her ears again. I let her play in the pool for a bit while they were out but it's time for them to go back up. 😁

She's looking great!
Olive and Elroy both got car sick as pups but they're sort of outgrowing it now. Elroy still will if it's hilly, curvy roads that are like a roller coaster and unfortunately that's the route I have to take to the show this weekend with all of the road construction right now. I guess it's CBD time for him since that really helps.

Here is one of Annie's sisters today and I think they look very similar.
