neverending soft poop

I'm glad to hear the stool is okay on the first time anyway Tina. Keep us posted on this since it will be helpful to others who have the same problem in the future.

I too had to stop giving Della any types of treats for training since it raised havoc on her digestive system, so now she only gets dry kibble and it works great. :)

that's funny- I was goint to talk about that. I decided to run a stool sample on the girls since I am tired of getting up 50 times a night to let them out. I was expecting it to come back with nothing but to my surprise it came back with giardia!!! I think that is probably what your vet was talking about as well. I was floored!! luckily the treatments are cheap and easy (oral liquid or powder once daily for 3 - 5 days). tom. will be day 3. I feel sleep coming!!! :-)
Oh my! You are the first one I've heard of here that had this! Going back to my post about it, was it as expensive a test as mine? I'm thinking I really got taken. geez. I'm glad to hear it cured them...how many had it? So it's an 'easy fix' then, huh?
Not to confuse you more, Tina, but TOTW wasn't working for Diesel's tummy,.... he's a little over a year old. We went back to what he was raised on....Nature's Variety Prairie Chicken, and he's been fine. But it's not in PetSmart or Petco, but local pet supply stores.
It's not too expensive (I'm unemployed here!) $40 something for a 30 lb bag.
This is what I feed and so far so good! ;)

so we are back to the soft poop, :(
oh well, i keep trying and since Apollo has soon his appointment i'll take a stool sample and let it check, just to make sure there isn't nothing else.
yesterday we went a bit to town and i was checking prices for food, gezzzzzzzzzz
most of them are soooooo expensive. but i don't give up hope.

Tell me about the food prices Tina. It's close to $60/bag for both kinds we feed, but I still find it's worth it.

Another food I forgot to mention that I've heard great things about is the Fromm, and the price is a bit more reasonable than some in that class. If you do wind up switching sometime down the road, that might be another one to check into.

Hey Tina,
We feed Natural Balance Sweet Potato Fish with a small amount of canned Liver from the same manufacturer and have wonderful results with Gunnar. We also supplement with Total-Zymes ( Home page )

This is a new product from Natural Balance:
NEW! Natural Balance® L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diets® Sweet Potato & Chicken Formula for Dogs. It is grain free and available at Petco.

James

Thanks James,
it must work very well, because Gunnar its one gorgeous handsome boy :D
not to mention a absolutly sweetheart, hehehe
i'll see how its ging with the food right now. yesterday it was oh well the revange of the thanksgiving food :o
but today its the total oposite, Apollo poop its very solid, gezzzzzzzz i don't remember when he had one like this and he went 3 times already and all were good, wonder what made the diffrence. but we'll see if it stays that way.

but thanks again everybody for the good tips :D

Did you switch foods? Add something or take away something? Something has to be different to get them solid after so long.

didn't switched food yet, just don't give no suppliments right now. so no fishoil ect.

but no i worry a bit, because yesterday i founda lump on his left side:o
i saw it when he walked by, i touched it and its rolling moving under the skin:scared:
it don't hurts or bothers him, but winder where that its coming from. it wasn't there in the morning. so have no idea what it is. sure i keep a eye on it and let the vet look at it, when we take him for his neutering.
gezzzzzz that boy, always something new with him:blink:

I find with the rescues sometimes that the better foods aren't always the best for their poos. I had to put Savanah on Science Diet which I don't normally feed but she had severely runny poo on TOTW and wellness?

Have you tried Pumpkin?

Boy, it just goes to show ya, they are all different.

The interesting thing for me is, so long ago, when I got my first Dobe, I didn't have a clue about foods! I started him on Solid Gold because it's what the breeder fed and she was a dealer, so I continued to buy it from her. But he never really had great poo and I never gave a thought to the food! :o After all, it was my first Dobe, I trusted the breeder and I wasn't informed enough to think it had anything to do with the food or to even try switching. ugh. And he was very gassy too. Now, that's not to say Solid Gold wouldn't do well with Buddy now, but he's fine so until we have a problem, I'm staying put. :) And to have so many people here to offer help and suggestions, is a godsend!

oh well back to his runny poop and he woke me up to tell me,tjat he had a accident in the house :o
can't he wake me up before, gezzzzzz nothing "better" then to wake up to that smell  and to clean carpet at 2am :(

Aw, poor Apollo! He's really having a problem there!

Yea, I don't want to be cleaning carpets at 2am either, especially runny ones! lol

i'm just glad we have the vet appointment soon, then i'll make a list what the vet should check out for me. so i can do it all in once.
and i'll take a stool sample to that day, so they can look if they maybe find something, but i dobt it, but you never know :(

HI Tina, I've been staying out of this thread because I really never have this problem except once in a blue moon. But I've been wondering about all the oily supplements you give Appolo. You know, back when we were younger these kinds of oils; cod liver oil, castor oil, etc. were given specifically to loosen stools in kids. Maybe this is too much for his system to handle. I'd get his stool tested for sure, but in this day and age with a balanced diet from a reliable dog food, I don't think there's a great need for supplements in a dobe's diet. This could just be upsetting the apple cart here. Just my opinion. :)

Mary Lou, i stopped giving Apollo the suppliments for a week now, no more extra fishoil ect. but no change so far :(
but i do have a appointment at the vet on the 10th and then i'll bring it up too, with all the other little things, so she can check it and let me know, what we can do about it.
