Blood dripping from penis

Hey all - just wanted to see if anyone’s experienced this with their dobies..

Here’s some more context. A few days ago, I noticed some blood on the baby wipe after wiping him down - the color was more dull red than blood red. Then yesterday, we noticed drops of blood on the carpet. Vinci is almost 2 years old (his birthday is next month) and still intact. Now, what’s really interesting is, he’s never been into humping this whole time but recently started humping family members - we always give him a firm no. Anyway, that started happening right around the same time I noticed blood on the wipes.

He’s currently being seen at the vet but wanted to see if anyone’s experienced something similar. Here’s a picture of Vinci for attention.

Wanted to say Vinci is an impressive dude! Sorry i can't give you any proper medical advice. The only thing i have ever heard of like this was on a veterinary show where a male dog came in with similar symptoms and it turned out that he was a hermaphrodite and had female internal organs so the bloody show was actually his/her first season! There was no bone in the penis though. Very unlikely to be the case with your boy and I hope some one has some real advice for you soon. :)

I don't know either since I don't have any experience with it. I'm thinking that maybe he's getting irritated in that area from being wiped down too often?

I had a 3 year old intact male who was peeing a little bit a lot and it was bloody. The vet said he had an enlarged prostate that was basically assaulting his bladder. He was due to be neutered anyway (requirement of adoption) so they expedited that and problem solved. I've never heard of that being A Thing before or since but that's what I was told! They said the enlarged prostate may have been due to a female in heat "nearby"

Hope you figure it out and get him on the mend :(

Oh man, look out, Vinci's in the building and he's feelin' humpy!

Not much experience with bloody discharge there, but I want to say I've heard of dog hitting his belly/penis on something and a bloody discharge resulting.

My boy is 4 1/2 and has had a small amount of blood leak out before. Vet said enlarged prostate, and said it was normal in intact males, but if it continued, that neutering would fix that. This was going to be my first boy that I did not neuter because he is SO well behaved! Never marked, perfect gentleman, and extremely friendly. But he had blood in his pee again, just a drop but now considering neuter . Because I had not seen it more than a day, I was supplementing with 500mg of cranberry pills. Figured it can't hurt!

@dobie206 Wow, Vinci is a beast! Let us know what you find out. Prostate issues are a fear of mine since my male Dobie is also intact.

@Two Dobes awesome avatar pic - a pair of Dobes is always an impressive sight and I really love when they naturally pose the same. My male is also 4.5 yrs old. I guess I need to add pee patrol to the poop patrol regimen.

We had blood drops from Kings penis, it was mainly noticed when he would jump off the couch or be jumping about in doors, the vet's carried out blood tests and physical exam off his prostate, found very enlarged prostate so a scan was arranged, his blood test results showed a possible cancer condition, when he had his scan a growth was found on one testicle and another growth found on the side off his chest, he had surgery to remove the growth on his chest and was also castrated, all removed bits were tested and showed as benign, was told by the vet's its common for intact dobermanns to suffer with enlarged prostate and castration is the best way to remedy the problem, when he was checked 2 months later prostate was normal, don't get worried about the cancer side off what I have posted, this was just something that happened with King.

Yes lol, you DO need to add watching Pee as well as Poop! ;). My boy pees on the side of our house, that is when I noticed:confused-alt:

UPDATE: We just got off the phone with the vet and Vinci has BPH - benign prostatic hyperplasia aka enlarged prostate. Phew!

The vet also informed us that his ultrasound only showed 1 kidney?! They think it was an error so Vinci’s scheduled for another ultrasound later this week.

They shaved a part of his stomach and it looks like he has a skin condition..

Thank you for updating - we are a curious bunch around here, always learning something new. Is there a treatment for him? Hoping the next kidney ultrasound is resolved.

Great news....that is what they said my boy had also...big relief! Let us know about the misdiagnosis (we hope!)
Your boy is gorgeous!

Well that is 'good' news, at least it is not something scary. Based on the other responses, it sounds like he'll have to be neutered?

I find that so weird! I hope they will not be expecting you to pay for a second ultrasound. Finding 1 kidney sounds like they made a mistake and should cover the cost. Even if they confirm there's only 1 kidney (what are the odds!), they should have more confidence in their work.

So pleased you have a diagnosis that isn't a major problem, the shaved area always looks very strange exleast it grows back quickly, have they discussed how to rectify the enlarged prostate, I know in the UK when King had his they recommend castration, hope he is soon back to his normal self he is such a fine looking boy.

The vet suggested neutering him but we don’t want to do it unless it’s medically necessary. He’s almost 2 so we could have him get neutered.. we’re still weighing our pros and cons.

Luckily they’re not making us pay for the second ultrasound - thank goodness, it was a little under $500!
