Definitely has a shorter thicker snout than Ragnar....

American or European, I see he has that gigantic water hole on the side of his mouth that leaks as if the Hoover dam has been opened!!! My wife absolutely hates that. LOL.

Is Bruno neutered?

Haha about a full mouthful leaks everytime he drinks water..

I feel like hes a handsome euro mix of some sort. I feel like I hit the lottery with this dog!

I have no idea what Bruno is as I rescued him. He came with no papers or information. I'm thinking he's a European but not sure at all.

Any opinions?!?!
Wow, my first thought when I saw his face was Great Dane! He looks big too, like a Dane. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that either! He really quite beautiful!

To me, the snout has always been an indicator. I have found Euros to have thicker snouts most noticeable in the under jaw. That's mostly from guessing other Euros here though. In person I have only seen 3 others - Kaiser's brother, and a half brother, surprise they look the same haha - and one Euro girl.

That said, check out these pics of Kaiser. See how the under jaw and lip (flews?) appears different in each shot.

The patterned ridge along their lips is so weird right?!

The water hole (lol!) is totally missing in this shot. This was night time in public with lots of people around including people climbing on a truck nearby (to watch fireworks). He looks more American here.

I also forgot to add that he is not nuetered.

Everyone who sees him on the street says hes the best looking great Dane they have ever seen; then they want to pet him until I tell them hes a Doberman then they start acting weird lol.

For all I know he could have some in him but from experience I can tell you he walks, talks, and acts like a Dobie and not a Dane.

Thanks for the gracious comment on his looks...

So, by all accounts Grumble (here in South Africa) is of European stock?

Apparently their initial puppy stage is a good indicator of how they will look as adults, but once they start growing they are rather disproportionate so it's harder to predict. To me, the type shows up in the under jaw and the amount of teeth. Smaller American jaws have room for fewer teeth.

Morning you fellas...

Well, I had her for conformance viewing this weekend.

Without having photo's of the sire and the dam, The concensus is she is a cross between the English strain, as shown the in the more pointy snout and definately the European strain manifested in the big bones....

Proportionatly she is 100 %, consensus is she is going to be a big-un

This weekend, at 11 weeks she clocked in on the scales at 12.4Kg (27.33 Lbs)and is currently 435mm high (17.12")

Did the first booster inoculation & second round of de-worming

I'm by no means a doberman expert or an experienced owner in the sense of titles and multiple dogs, but my own lens of characteristics for Euro vs American lie in the snout (as mentioned by @Kaiser2016 ) chest thickness, and neck length (thin and elegant is more American than short and stout Euro IMO), and overall height/size.

The only way my fat kid self can compare them is an American looks like a McDonalds cheeseburger while a Euro is more like a Burger King double Whopper. Same type of sandwich but starkly different. Grumble (like my Bruno) is flame grilled from Burger King, I think your partner is more Euro.

I think that euro dogs are a bit more bigger and thicker. So they need more exercise. I’ve typically noticed that Americans are made for a more sleek look whereas euros look more muscular and the bone mass is typically heavier. So they would be a bit more dangerous looking than the Americans as the Americans are look thinner and more compact.

Well I always think of it this way.. I have one of each a Euro and an American..I compare them to a Quarter horse ( Euro) and an Arabian ( American) ..LOL ..I can tell you this they both for sure need the same amount of exercise..personal experience! Indiviuals of both types can be quite different ..just as people have different personalities so do the Dobermans.

It’s been a long time since I read this thread in its entirety so it may have been mentioned.

Check out some South American Dobermans sometime;)
A bit different than N American or Euro stock.

Thanks K

WHEW! Thought we were in for another “breed standard”.....Dober-Africkanus sub species Southern Africkanus...... or something like that!

Took a lot in the way of diet food bolstering but I think she’s not bad, considering she’s yard bred not from registered stock, and only based on “my eye”

But you tell me... what you see... good & not so good I'd appreciate your input...

Watch the magic..... You only going to get about 5 seconds right at the end.... See how she instantly changes from playful gambollling happy-go-lucky to a 30Km / h bullet....

I was lucky the week before, she gave me about 20 seconds, and ran 3 sides of that field.....It was awsome..... First time I ever saw her stretch herself, and she wasn't even tired...... Unfortunately.... no camera.....

I take my Euro to play at the playground at night when no kids are around.... he loves jungle gyms... weird?!?!

@Gman88 , not weird that you do it, but kind of weird that he loves it. My Oji is freaked by the slides – even the lowest, flattest ones. He gets spastic and I've got to watch that he doesn't injure me with the leash.

But yeah, especially with my first Dobe, we would visit playsets when no one was using them. I remember one day years ago when I first saw my guy go up on all toe nails climbing a steel slide. Those toes are strong!

I do feel bad about toe nails putting scratches on plastic slides though.

My guys done a straight slide but this particular park has the windy slides and he wasn't messing with them.

I feel like they know humans have fun on these things so they give it a try as well.

When you say injure you with the leash how are you guys positioned? My guys always off leash at these spots.
