Orijen Puppy Large Breed

If this doesn't work, bite him back on his ear! ....I'm serious, Grace was and still a bit when over excited been a nipper and I bit down a little on her ear and never have to worry for the rest of the day....You should see the crazy eyes when you do it!:eek::eek:

He bite my ear a few weeks ago and immediately snapped on my beard. I got really pissed off and I bite him back but on his neck (since his ears are posted) and he gave me a similar “WTF JUST HAPPENED” look. But he’s only an a$$holrnfor maybe 15-20 minutes a day lol.

Personally used one with duke you can see him wearing it in some photos I’ve posted around. I think it’s more pup dependent then anything strong willed pups do fine if your pup is skittish it’s a big no no and you need to use other methods of correction. And improper use/over correcting with it can have negative results, but used correctly can be used on pups no need for shocks as vibrates and tone setting usually are enough to get a pups attention, and with duke the min. It goes on he goes into full military training mode and is by my side in a heel looking at me for a command so I barley even use it at this point with him. People are amazed at how well duke does with commands and his behavior in public now. But I want the same response from duke without his e collar and am working on getting it.

Update, he’s been on orijen now fully 100% since Saturday morning. All his poops are like yogurt, however he is only going twice a day compared to TOTW’s 7 poops a day while being soft. So I guess that’s an improvement, going to give it till this Friday to see if there is any improvement in his stool then may begin looking into changing his food again. These soft serve ice cream poops are too much to deal with cleaning his bum every time he goes is getting annoying.

I’m leaning towards feeding him raw, as I’ve heard everyone here mention it’s great for the dog and his poops.

Can anyone chime in? Possibly message me a “how to” for feeding raw. I’d really like to get his poops under control. Thanks.

Your some what still in the transition and the big difference in the quality between the foods may be playing apart as you’ve already said give it a week or so and see how it goes. It took duke longer then a week to fully adjust his body will have to adjust now, blending the food works the same in dogs as humans, it just makes it easier on the stomach to a new diet which is pretty much what changing his food did, was change his diet it may take more then a few days to fully get adjusted and the fact that he’s just been on it 100 percent for a day. Patience good sir, watch the movie a little bit it may get better. The poops are cut down to twice so your heading the right direction. But you may see improvement across the week with the pies

I switched foods completely and he got vaccines all in one week (worst choice ever) but I delt with mud butt for almost three weeks before he was completely solid again.

I would wait a whole month at least to see how his stomach settles down. Some say 3-6 months. The cow piles are annoying but there are also a lot of changes going on right now...I think you're moving too right?

Yeah we’re moving and he’s been going back and forth between places and he’s been meeting a lot of new people at the new place. Maybe he’s a bit stressed?

I agree with @Kaiser2016 id personally give it close to a month easy and if I was still seeing improvements (even if not exactly what I want but improvements )I’d keep riding it out past a month. Diet changes take time to adjust too. It took me almost a month to get duke back solid. And even longer to figure his diet out to manageable order, I’m still learning his diet as he grows cause it still has to be adjusted and with his growth rates it’s not always a easy call on how much to add or when to add it. Feed him too much ,he wastes it or over eats and causes a extra poop, feed em way to much he gets the runs or feed em too little and he needs more and he starts to act like a turd until I figure out what his issue is.

Another thing since your finally on 100% orijen you may need to trim back his intake again. I know the full solid dobie look is nice but it comes with muscle and age,not over feeding, don’t know if you are but try to keep him fit and healthy to you it may look thin (often pup owners think thier pups are thin when they are actually a perfect weight and build and begin to over feed trying to thicken thier pup up)

I’ll give it a little time, I’m feeding him 2 1/2 cups a day of food. They recommend 2 1/3 cup a day for a 22 pound puppy and he’s 30 pounds. I’ll continue to ride it out. I noticed he’s been pooping more volume than volume going in.

Activity level can affect intake as well and the recommendations go both ways +\- so he could need 2 1/4 or even 2 cups all the way out to 3 cups (I doubt he needs that just using that as an example)

Dobes can be nervous poopers as puppies. That can cause otherwise good stools to become soft. I bet all the upheaval right now is impacting him.

How much water is he getting?

He’s drinking about 2 bowels a day. I cut him down to 1 bowel. Idk how many Oz, but my guess each bowel is around 15 Oz.
I thought it was a typo the first time :spit: Bowel vs Bowl, omg the irony

Ok. Reason I asked is because Dobes are also nervous drinkers :D Let him have water all day. Then remove it at least 4 hrs before bedtime. See if the morning poop comes out drier. Then you know it's water volume that has to be controlled. I like Kaiser to be peeing about 12-15 seconds long by the time 7 pm rolls around. He goes to bed by 8 or 9 and won't need a potty break all night. He's also 20 months old but I'd say we've had him on this schedule since 8 months old.

Do you add a bit of water to the kibble to soak it? Add a bit there and reduce the free water by the same amount.

Lol sorry typo. Been a busy day, packing everything up and bouncing back between both places (20 mile drive. 40 round trip) lol.

But yeah, so this is his daily schedule, 5am wake and feed. (He’s been waking up at 430ish lately having to pee bad). But anyways, he goes back to bed immediately after he poops as I don’t want him running around all crazy at 5 in the morning and bothering everybody. Anyways, he gets fed again at 4pm or 5pm depending on the day. I have class at 5pm on Monday/Wednesday’s so he gets fed at 4pm. He poops then gets back in his crate for an hour or on moms lap if she didn’t bring work home. He plays then goes for a walk, sometimes he poops on his walk. His water is cut off at 8pm and he is in his crate at 10pm.

I don’t like I mix water with his feed anymore, someone mentioned to me that he is over drinking water which may be causing his lose stools. However, I will cut water off tomorrow at 6pm.

We’ve been slowly transitioning him to what his new schedule will be once we move and I return to work. Slowly increasing his daily crate time to simulate a day of work.

Anyways back on topic, today his poops were SLIGHTLY firmer than yesterday. When I say slightly firmer it was more pudding like instead of runny soft serve ice cream. Lmao. However his 2-3 poops a day are wonderful compared to 7 a day with totw and half of those being runny or hard.

Moisten the kibble , don’t drown it orijen is cold pressed which makes it extremely dry. Think about it this way you can add moisture with water or it will pull moisture from the stomach as it breaks down in the body

He pooped all over the garage floor on the way to the truck. Then when we got to our destination he had horrible diarrhea again, but this time pure watery mucus. He got it inside the new house and outside. Including on himself, he had to get a cold bath :(. Anyways, I got him home and gave him a full warm bath. Then we napped for about 3 hours (see picture). He woke up, we ate and he didn’t take his normal after meal poop. He gets fed at 5pm, I took him out for his before bed time bathroom run 10pm, he peed then pooped! And guess what, it was formed and almost fully solid! Hoping this continues in the morning with his next poop.

This part is the only thing that worries me, but I'm not sure what to make of it

That he finally had a good solid poop is awesome news! Now that you're moved in maybe his tummy will settle down too.

I read on the interwebz that stress could cause the diarrhea he had and he had probably the most stressful day of his life yesterday.

Movers came and moved all our stuff while he was in his crate. And he had a “WAHHHHS GOING ON LOOK” on his face. This is when his poop case started. I just fed him right now and I’m waiting for him to poop. Crossing my fingers.
