American VS European Doberman

Seems like the American breeders are going for that swan neck thing. Can't say I am a fan.
Not when it's getting to the extreme it has been. This is a bitch who did very well at the DPCA Nationals and she belongs to a breeder I know. Way over done (IMO) and so extreme it looks like neck injuries waiting to happen.

I think @Archer s pups and dogs are a perfect balance and what an American bred Doberman should look like.

The other thing about that particular dog is no under jaw. Looks like half her mouth is missing.
IDK, when I read the standard that's not the image I get in my head.

Ooh oh yes. Eeek on the example.

Maybe it is my show background speaking, and I'm no expert on dobes, but I love the american show look. I will say that last looked pretty extreme and nothing like the dobes I saw 10-12 years ago in the show ring. But it seem "progress" must be made and if a little of something is good, then a lot is better. I'm not sure where you draw the line? That neck is almost as extreme as the rears and toplines of GSDs

Also has a pointy / narrow muzzle that I'm not a fan of. I like a long yet square muzzle. I find it a EU trait and some SA. Some SA seem to be a NA/EU combination. I don't know enough about SA breeding lines to know if it is true and/or if true for majority of SA, just an observation.

Don't like that head, too thin almost snippey, not enough stop and uneven planes. But I have seen many dobermans with that look get put up many times. Sometimes I think the judges get so stuck on top line and squareness they over look the head.

SA Dobes have a sharper tempermeant and are much like NA bred Dobes in their looks as they breed more to our standard. They do well as both conformation dogs and performance dogs. Aria is my only full NA bred Doberman although my NA/SA combo breedings look similar to her.

You guys may not like the head/neck of the puctured dog, but it is correct per standard and is not considered snipey.

Speaking of underjaw...I need to get a good pic of Belmont's. He has a chin! His head is lovely, but I expected that from an Aria offspring. Aria's head is just it for me

Thanks @JanS. What a lovely conpliment. I am very proud of my dogs :)

I love the lines of Aria. She has this graceful elegance about her.

Belmont had my heart the moment I saw him. The twins are just beautiful too but Aria makes my mouth water!

Awww. Thank you! I also love her touch of femininity. She is a fantastic dog. I just love her!! Belmont won me over the minute he was born. I cut his embryonic sac and that was it.

There is something about Faith that makes my heart flutter, lol but then again I always drool when I see @Archer crew.
Thanks so much! Faith has the sweetest expressions. She's very high drive, brilliant and funny and is a true working dog at heart.

Thank you everyone for your lovely words. I didn't mean to make this thread turn into being about my dogs. Just wanted to share their visual similarities :)

Really? Gawd, that's disappointing to me because it means I understand the standard less than I thought. I would call that snipey.
Do you have an example of what snipey really is?
