Well well well! Long time no chat! We’ve missed you all! Let’s start with the not so good news, over the course of October of last year 2023, through May of 2024 our family has suffered losing 5 family members… having to deal with those deaths really took a toll on our family and my mental health especially! In spite of careers and bills don’t stop, so that’s a big part of our inactivity on the forum.
The good news… we are in a much better emotional and head space, still taking things day by day! Now! Vito! Lol! Vito is a big boy now! He made 1 year old Feb 14th 2024 and when last at the vet mid March he weighed 83lbs. I was initially nervous because he had that super weird lanky looking stage, but he is filling out beautifully! For reference in terms of height… I am 5’11 and when “stacked” his head is right at my hip and his crop is an inch or two above my hip. He’s super energetic and is walking 3 miles a day, with around 2 hours of running around and playing in the yard, and a solid 30-45 mins of obedience training a day. If you’ve been following us; you may remember we started in IPO training, which we are no longer doing… the drives too and from training we’re just too far and I couldn’t make sense with paying so much for training, gas and the wear and tear on my vehicle.
Vito is a family dog, but seems to be more attached to me than anyone else in the family. He loves his big brothers and sisters, and is super protective over our 2 girls ages 8 and 6. He’s also become very territorial and doesn’t like strangers approaching his property at all! He does warm up to company coming over and will tolerate people being over at our house, he does this thing when company is over, where he goes from family member to family member out of those who live in the house seemingly giving a “is everything ok?” Kind of energy (if that makes sense), he does have an attack command which I hope we never have to use. He really isn’t too fond of other male dogs and I think that stems from him being aggressively approached by an adult dog when he was around 4 months old. All is all, he is a joy, goofy and silly with us! We are loving it and him! He’s the addition to our family we didn’t know we needed!
I will be back to post more, until then. Peace!
