What flea and tick prevention do you use besides heart worm medicine..

Bonnie is a purebred but not well bred byb, of claimed NA/Euro mix,
and spayed so pedigree info is not needed, but if some part might be captured I could go to dobequest to look for longevity if recorded in her upline.
Thats good for planning ahead for vet bills...
Pedigrees, spayed/neutered or not hold a wealth of information for your own dog. If she has euro names not on Dobequest you can sometimes find them on

Pedigrees of dobermanns

Like Dobequest, the information is voluntary by the submitter so some breeders or owners can leave off information they don't want public. No help to the breed, but whatever... A wealth of information on your dog regarding heredity if you have a pedigree and dig for it.

That's right, I forgot about that.
What? I didn’t know that! Why? I have a purebred border collie who I’ve given heartgard to for the past 6 years. Just the heartworm kind not the plus. I started giving it to the Doberman now as well since the topical Revolution I was using on him gives him diarrhea every time. So far no side affects.

@lady Dobie , I can't remember the reason.

Weird that my account says new member and doesn’t show the profile pic. I signed up October 2023
I think you might need 10 posts for it to stop showing new member. As for the photo, I'm not sure unless one of our software upgrades did it. You're welcome to add a new one though.

it may be okay for border collie.. but rough collies are known to be severely affected by ivermectin...but i would check this further just incase..with border collie... sometimes you have no reaction .. and then poof things could change.. suddenly.. if there is a risk factor with border collies i would not risk it...

Remy has been on Credelio and Interceptor Plus his whole life without issues. The only negative thing is ever since he started taking the 50-100lb dose of Interceptor Plus, it’s really difficult to get him to eat it. He is not picky at all and I’ve never had to hide things in food, but he’ll find the smallest piece of that and spit it out. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I saw there is a new one called Credelio Quattro which combines the flea, tick, and heart worm preventative into one pill. Since Remy eats the Credelio without issue I asked his vet about this today. He doesn’t carry it in office yet and likes to wait awhile before trying since it’s new. He recommended Simparica Trio so we got one month of that to try. We need year round preventative here which makes it really expensive, but it’s important to have something effective since heart worm is so prevalent in my area.

I am not promoting this in anyway because I know nothing about it other than what the company says in the ad. I find marketing departments really push the envelope when it comes to truth in advertising. I do find it interesting though because I have had success with essential oils so I thought it was worth sharing. FurLife™ 12 Months Flea and Tick Free

Sim parica Trio is the one i have used for years.. but the price for 4 dogs is very expensive. also i was trying to get away from so much toxins all at once.. so now using a topical and Interceptor plus. I am also going to try Fur Life collars.. i just took Lady to vet ..i take them one by one and have the heartworm test.. including Lyme etc..negative again.. . we do not have a major problem in this area.. we keep the lawn area where they run cut short and no bushes etc... but it only takes one tick to play havoc so we are carefully checking this out or we may return to Simparica Trio..

Wow since I clicked on this link I've had ads popping up for it left and right, which of course is no surprise. But... this morning a couple of them were extremely graphic showing dogs having seizures or laying on a vet table nearly lifeless. I get they are trying to get the point across that chemicals can be harmful but the graphics...

Marketing has become so ridiculous...

I am trying to find a good flea and tick external treatment for dobies ..i already give the heart worm medicine.. any suggestions with price and quality very welcomed..thank you
My suggestion is BRAVECTO,1400 mg fluralaner, ectoparasiter.👍

I was going through bookmarks and cleaning up my tablet when I came across this interesting read. It even has some recipes for safe preventive.
I think it's an important read because every dog owner should be informed on what they give their dog.

Just be aware that Bravecto is in the isoxazoline class of drugs.
Here's a screenshot of what that class can do.

Here's the link if you want to know more. Neurologic Event Potential and Bravecto, Credelio, Nexgard, Simparica

Fleas and ticks can do damage to our dogs but I think it is important to know that preventives can also. Do your research and dig deep because it can be challenging to find the truth because of the money involved.

I've been trying to pick up a few more essential oils for nosework, without ordering them and it looks like Walmart is that only place in town that carries them anymore. Walgreens used to carry them but one of the employees told me they discontinued them and she doesn't know why when they're such good sellers and even Walmart is usually sold out, except icky stuff.

I get the whole buy local thing but quality is important with essential oils and I'm not sure you can get that at Walmart. How important is the quality for nosework?

How important is the quality for nosework?
I'm guessing it needs to match up with what they use at trials or it could throw them off more.

Quality is extremely important, some cheap versions can be toxic, especially when using in nose work. Please use only the oils that are specifically used by the different venues. You can find sources by google-search, here's a company that has AKC, UKC, etc. listed.

To save money, just get the refill bottles and make your own q-tips. Never ever use essential oils found on the shelf at Walmart or dollar stores.
