Leaning toward towards a male cropped dobe, open to a "performance pet"- what some call breeder excess inventory
I've never heard it called excess inventory but many litters do have pet or performance pups available, in addition to the show picks from a litter, if that's what you specify you want. The price is usually no less since they all cost the breeder just as much, but it would be a different contract.

My bad, I swapped term- in my mind excess inventory but read referred in some places as "performance pets".

Yes, I'd not want to commit to showing/trialing except as to my own needs and schedule, for functional needs.

Also not interested in breeding but prefer for dog health reasons NOT to neuter a male.

I'm expecting that puts me outside of a profile of acceptable customer that some top breeders would consider but thats also ok.

Perhaps a male thats put out to pasture cuz it doesnt cut the mustard in "finishing" or not quite whats needed developing a line, but needs a home.

But thats out a ways.
We'll see how things shape up in near future.

Yes, in many cases a breeder will hold back a male as a breeding prospect but change their mind as they mature so that might be a good option. Or many breeders will retire a female at about 4 years and sell them to a good home.
