UDC Nationals 2025

Hubby put a big tarp along the sidewalk to keep them from tracking in mud so they have that part of WAE down. LOL
Our club is holding an FDC (Farm dog certification) again this summer so I really should work on some of those things since it's very similar to WAE.
That looks like fun, and a life saver if introducing dogs to horses first time.

Reckless did the farm dog trial and if I remember correctly it wasn't difficult at all. Just basic manners, open/shut a gate with dog on loose leash, no lunging or barking at the farm animals - all the farm animals were in pens - and also the dog has to stay tied while you left it for a minute. It was before I got Asha so some stuff might be changed, but yeah, a great goal for your dogs this summer! It was AKC, now I'm wondering if UKC also has a version of it since you've mentioned your club does some UKC events?

This one is an AKC event and our club holds it in conjunction with an AKC club. As far as I know UKC doesn't have it.

Ok t
FakeBook is not letting me share the web version of group link, I guess as I dont have a FakeBook account...but those for who do, there is commentary there too.
Trying this:

Thanks for bumping the links @BGpa, I read they had some glitches in the live feed yesterday but should be good to go today. I've had things going on at home and haven't had the time to check the log in process. Hope to get some free time by tomorrow, in the meanwhile I hope UDC finds way to set up replays on YouTube or something that is accessible to everyone and easily!

You're welcome!
Try this link:

Either "Feed"
Or
"Livestreams"
And scroll down to "recap"

The one recap of recorded Mondio trial is listed as free but clicking on it opens a subsciption required page...so unless you watch an event live you'll have to pay to see a recording later, I think.

Or maybe dogsport site is still getting caught up. I'll be checking back later too.

The fakebook page has a couple announcements but no video yet either.

Hearing a lot of enthusiasm and fun...reminds me to take time to go see a regional or national working show in person.

Looks like the Facebook page is best place for updates- so many entries they have had to adjust but for schedules of events see here

I'm interested in obedience and WAE (42? Wut? 42 entries? Wow!)
On tuesday...east coast time so i'm reminded myself to adjust Alarm as needed.

So, I noticed Dr Molly McCue of UMn fame on the DDP ten year longitudinal study aiming at 4000 dogs...
Was slated to give an update at UDC nationals which just ended.
Anyone go, happen to attend her update, have a way to share?
The reason I ask is:
DPCA posts toutubes of breeder seminars by vets after national meeting...private but findable id

But I'm not finding any mention after UDC.

I see Dr McCue and her husband Dr Dunn raise dobes in Mn. Any members here who know her can get bootleg copy to share progress?

Thats a big ten year study in involving 4000 dobes that will take a lonnnng time before they can publish, obv.

But an update now might spark more submissions of data if they are still looking.

Fwiw I sent my offer a year + ago but no reply, probly as BYB Bonnie has no pedigree. I *think* they were asking you commit to annual updating...but maybe Dr McCue has update on that. Early submissions etc.

Nothing found on search so far...

But I'm not finding any mention after UDC.
Lots of times the organizations take a while to construct a recap of the Nationals, and UDC is small compared to DPCA. I'll see if I can find out if there will be a public release of that report, or a video of the talk/seminar, but it's all volunteers and there was so much this year with the ring sports etc.

The WAE and Breed Survey photos and video clips from Nationals would be very interesting too.
Nope, nada.

(Checking notes...that earlier regional show with Doug Matson of Kansadobe doing Breed Survey- that would be interesting if any clips could be found too)

Educational and build interest for more regional events and next years nationals...
But I imagine processing individual orders from those in attendance comes first...so I'm calendaring "check back in 3 months".
With photogs or the UDC national level folks.

For now, my plan is to be on the lookout for future dates of regional shows, to start getting familiar in person, or plan to travel for the 2027 Nationals.

To actually work at becoming a competitor, is another level, as you note @Ravenbird including moving to a region where you can be close enough to train in a club, to compete regionally working your way up to nationals.

Its a lifestyle, as they say, to play at a high level. Same as the showdog world.

The UDC has their Focus magazine which I think the fall issue is dedicated to the Nationals and will have pictures & stories and full results and scores (or at least it has in the past). Members get this fall issue in paper version once a year, but general public can order the Focus magazine via print-on-demand from the publisher. So yeah, 3 months or so it will all be put together. The rest of the magazines are free for members to look at on line or we can purchase a paper copy, same as general public. I think you have to be a member to get the online version at no cost.

Again, not the most popular thing people follow unless they are actually doing it, so no huge demand. Some of the competitors or breeders of successful dogs will post pics or video clips on their own pages, but I don't think UDC has the media staff to do that and there's just not that much putting stuff out there. 🤷‍♀️

Thanks @Ravenbird
I'll go ahead and sign up at UDC to get the magazine and heads up on future events. Next dog to be determined, no rush, after settled in new place also to be determined.

Leaning toward towards a male cropped dobe, open to a "performance pet"- what some call breeder excess inventory, or a rehome, from an ethical breeder. That takes time getting to know breeders, which is best done at shows/trials I'd imagine.

There are plenty of rescues needing a home too. I like to speculate on other breeds, and if the SD need continues then more research will be involved, in the breeders that have placed dobe dogs, or in other big black scary dog breeds suited for light mobility. On SD I'd be starting a puppy, applying the current best practices in proven programs or trainers that do that.

So, lots of learning ahead.
