To fellow dog nerds and those who like to research complicated things, like dobermans...

And in Re: good tip read here- "go visit a show dog" show to check out the "fancy", maybe see who is doing well, collect biz cards or contact info...

People are busy at these shows but if they can connect a name later with a face of someone who made the effort to learn in person, you will have a better chance of connecting after the busy show season.

I've read the best ethical preservation breeders get a lot of tire-kickers and looky-loos online so it may make followup faster, say if you want to interview those breeders and get on a list.
It helps to "prove" yourself a bit, right?

It very well could be but if you restrict yourself to just your area, you could be missing out on a lot of good breeders, depending on what you are looking for. I have never gotten a Doberman from this state, except our first one and that turned out to be a big time BYBer. As of now there is at least one reputable breeder in the state but it really isn't the type of dog I would look for and the restrictions are beyond what I would want to commit to.

Thanks. When the time comes I'll be prepared to travel cross country for the right dog.
"Seeing a show in the area" is the advice fI have taken to mean: "how to get an idea of the show or trial culture, people, the whole scene"etc. Even if a dobe breeder is not attending, it could be educational.

Maybe find a mentor or another source of advice other than the handful of dobe breeders here and elsewhere who take the time to educate the public, like here-online, for free on how things work.
And repeat- to whom I often offer a deep bow of respect, for doing so.
