Rubie's Agility Career

Our Jumpers run. Obviously weaves continue to be an issue. She does miss the second to last jump but as you can tell by the judge, we'd already been Eliminated by the weaves so the rest was just noodling. We did get the part I fudged in the previous run right on this one (28 second mark, again!)! I just needed to stop moving and call her in!

And yes, the dog noises, the people in/on/around the course, everyone smelling like some sort of treat or throwing some type of toy around, they have to learn to ignore it which is a HUGE feat, regardless. Some venues will even allow dogs in heat to compete!
Yes, I would say that's a huge feat! What a distraction! And dogs in heat? Wow. Rubie always does well! Even when she's disqualified!

Mr Moose came to our trial today! Dog Dad went to a football game so I decided to bring my little man with to get him used to trial environments. He was perfect, of course! Quiet when dogs walked by and when I took Rubie out to run, happy and enthusiastic when I took him to play around with the warm-up jump, didn't PEE on anything, and left other dogs/people alone, in general.

As for Dingo, a little sibling rivalry is good for her. Her first run beautiful: fast, flawless, and so fun! Second run, I lost her halfway through but really, a Q and any points earned would've kicked us up into Masters level. She can handle the courses easy enough but I'd like to be more consistent as a team. UKI is amazing with allowing handlers to actually reward their dog in the ring because why shouldn't you be able to, right? I can take a toy in with us and leave it with Rubies leash for the Leash Runner to take to the Exit Gate.

For our third run, Jumpers, I actually had a tennis ball in my hand so it was a NFC (Not for Competition) run so no Q's or points but you get standard course time, about 57s, to work on whatever you want. I opted to run the course as designed but Beginners Jumpers in UKI has 12 weaves which are Rubies trialing Achilles Heel. She NAILED them, even with a tougher entrance than we've seen in trials. We actually ran them twice because I thought the first was a fluke! Finished the rest of the run fast and perfect and I got to throw her tennis ball as a reward after her last jump! I think I'll continue NFCs in Jumpers for a few more trials so she'll hopefully learn weaves are weaves are weaves regardless of where we are. I may for Speedstakes, too, just to build her confidence and focus.

Moose is very proud of his sister!

I can't wait to get my Moo man out there! I may register him with UKI and sign him up for a run and do NFC with him when Rubie and I do our next trial. Speedstakes is just jumps and tunnels which he knows and loves!

Great job!

Sounds like Agility is becoming second nature to Rubie? No more actual learning but more of a “been there done that- let’s do this...”. with emphasis on whether Rubie wants to partake?

We are still learning a lot in class but it's like... We're practicing how to run a marathon but we're still jogging 5Ks... if that makes sense? The stuff we train is a lot more advanced than what we've seen in trials.

Her first run this weekend blew me and some of the peanut gallery away! "Wow! She's so fast and so good!" And then our second run which left much to be desired :D Now we're working through trial stress which is where the NFC runs will become so important!

Of course I only have video of our second run haha. I think Rubie shuts down on me when I'm cuing too late. See how she prances and sneezes after she misses the jump at the 15 second mark? She's frustrated with me. Minus missing a cue to enter the back corner tunnel via the opposite side and blowing past the last 3 jumps, the middle of this run is very nice and more representative of her abilities - when SHE feels like it! She does grab her toy at the end like she deserved it though, didn't she:woot2:

I wish her second run was as good but she decided she was over it. Oh well!

EDIT: the other two dobes that were there had a bit of a tougher time so Rubes at least had that going for her

And again!

I was surprised by Rubie's gusto, today! She and Moo ran the same courses (Beginer and Novice share a course, Senior and Champion share a more difficult course) but Rubie did it 16 seconds faster. She was ON POINT today! Her Q gave us enough points to wrap up Novice and join the Senior/Champs courses!!

Run #1 - same courses Moo ran. She handled this perfectly

Run #2 - Rubie got worked up over the dog that ran before us so she was too distracted. Took the first jump and ran off course. The judge was AMAZING and said "Set her back up and run the course!" I set her back up at the start line and she ran one of her best runs ever. It's a lot of straight lines so I sprinted my ass off. It was considered a Fix and Go so not good for a time or Q but very glad she rebounded and ran! I had several people compliment us after which meant a lot to me.

These two were pretty pleased with themselves
