My 80lb baby with her binky. Maeve will bring me this Kong binky from when she was a pup at 8pm every night for her snackView attachment 84940
Wait, you have a soother sucking Doberman and you never told me? I have been so tempted everytime I see this thing but wondering whose dog is using this item, surely cannot be Dobes!

Who could refuse giving a snack to that face?! Kaiser would be such a fatty lol.

Awesome pic and beautiful girl. Please post more shots of her with "binky". Also love the cute name. It's all just so adorable!

If you didn't catch it in the shout box, this is what Albert did last night before we were all getting ready to go to sleep.
Quills in nose and mouth June 8 18.webp

We got this many out, then he started jerking around too much so it was off to the emergency vet we went. I'm glad we did since he had a couple stuck in his gums that I didn't see.

And this was an accident when I was trying to take a photo but you can probably see them better here.

Oh No! Poor Albert!! Hopefully he's feeling better.

Ran across this on a walk the other day.

It amazes me the number of people that feel their dogs can poop anywhere and not pick it up. It’s usually the tourists that I see doing this the most. I also see them allowing their dogs to pee on people’s grass which is bad because the urine most times will kill the grass.
If you have a dog you need to be respectful of other people’s property!

Oh, Albert!! That looks so painful! And removing can be just as painful. Maybe more with the barbed points. Did they have to put him out @JanS ? I'm grateful we don't have those here. Skunks are bad enough!
I read years ago in a book that porcupine quills had to be pulled inward through the flews if that's where they are – because of a barb on the quills? It is better to remove it the same direction it went in?? I don't know if this is true, but I be Jan can tell us.

Incidentally, this notion always reminds me of what I was told as a kid for shock value: Something like if a person gets hit by a driver and gets lodged in the windshield, they must be pulled into the car in order to be removed.

I imagine it depends on each individual quills location. Some may be better off going through, others you'll have no choice but to pull out the way they went in.

Kinda like with fish hooks, I imagine. Sometimes, you're better off cutting it and pushing it the rest of the way through.

Eager to hear about porcupine quill removal but in the meantime, Norris, Rubie, Moose and I went on a canine cruise with the RealDogMomsOfChicago and ReaDogDadsOfChicago! It did rain which made Rubie angry but she got over it. MINOR PHOTO DUMP.

Everyone was good!

How is he today?
He's totally back to normal - thanks for asking.
Did they have to put him out @JanS ?
Yes, it was heavy sedation that isn't as much as for surgery, but it still takes them 20 - 30 minutes to wake up again. At least he got a free nail trim while they were bringing him out of it.
When he did wake up they were walking him out to us through the exam room and he decided to lay down right in the middle of that to try to take a nap. LOL

No they come out from the other direction (we just pulled them out forward from his snout), unless they're all the way through a lip or something. It's easiest to get them right away and they pull right out, but the longer they're in, the deeper they embed.
