I haven’t taken Remy out much since he isn’t fully vaccinated yet. The vet and techs all comment how much they love and/or want a Doberman, but the women at the desk made a comment about his ears. I can’t tell if she meant it in a negative way or not lol.
Pretty much everyone in my family or neighborhood he’s met asked “what’s on his head”, but no one seemed to ask in a negative way. I do get a lot of “poor boy” comments when I explain how long the posting process takes, so I always tell them it doesn’t seem to bother him (which is true). I think most people have never seen posted ears before, or even think that Dobermans naturally have “pointy” ears.
Online is a whole different world though. I ended up putting on filtered comments for my TikTok after a video went viral. Tons of comments like “animal abuse”, “you mutilated your dog for looks/to make him look scary”, “cuter before you cut his ears off”, “it’s illegal where I live”, etc… Also a lot of people who argue with me about the fact that it is breed standard and that it is legal in the US… I noticed on TikTok once the dog is older and done posting, there seems to be far less ear comments. Which again makes me think they don’t know the ears are cropped and not naturally pointed?
