Nightmare Doberman

Gorgeous dog. Didn't look to slender. That's what I have trouble with is the slender (as my trainer says) "rat dogs" (I don't agree with the wording completely but I get what he means)
Only thing notable is my trainer doesn't really use the bite Guards. He believes if you train a dog to bite a sleeve, and no sleeve is present, then what happens then.
Quick dog.
It isn’t about teaching to bite a sleeve or suit or even hidden sleeve. It all has to do with breeding and genetics. Most trainers that work dogs can tell. It is easy to see the difference between a trained sport dog and a true working dog.

I have seen Nightmare Dobermans on social media mostly and I personally think their dogs are the equivalent of "gym bros", thick and muscular but useless for actual work. I never looked into them further for that reason. Will tell you this when you are considering what dog is more effective for work, that it works very similar with people too. The big, stocky built men look great, especially in Hollywood, but they have a lot more strain on their body doing the same simple tasks that a man built more mesomorphic (average) does. They also need a lot more calories to maintain their body, doing exactly the same thing as the average built men. The U.S. Marines, which obviously do serious life and death training and lots of endurance exercises are not typically 300lbs of solid muscle, thats because it isn't functional or sustainable for anything serious. A euro/american cross or a thick american doberman (if you can actually find one with any medium to high drive) might be better for work than the thickest, heaviest euro you can find. Others may chime in and tell me I am wrong, but that's my take on the kind of dog you're looking for.

Good analogy.

You weren't directly asking me, but how tall is that Dobe? Either that is a really tall woman, or that may be a 25" male Dobe. He also has a thin, gay tail. His chest seems unusually wide, or at least his front legs were oddly far apart in one pic.

Looks matter to me too, as does size. (You know I know about breed standard) But then, in my experience, Dobes who are from proven woriking lines and excel on the field are not physically impressive or beautiful.
I follow them on insta and have actually talked with his handler, he isn't small and is quite heavy, I believe she told me he's around 90lbs? He's a beast, as Ravenbird said, he's outperformed other breeds, and is training for PSA3!

I am looking for a male dobe. That doesn't feel like it's on the smaller side of medium. I don't want the show style dobe that looks thinner. Frankly I want something along the lines of a euro dobe hypertype (that extra 8-10lbs, the thicker legs, more muscle density. ) I do not wish to have a dog full of health problems so I'm in a weird spot. I was suggested buying a doberdane but great Danes got shit hearts
You don't want a hypertype doberman, trust me. These dogs can't perform well, and are the reason why Europe is full of DCM, it's not even funny. There are dogs dying at 2 years old. My doberman sits on the high end of the standard at 95+lbs, and even tho he's suppossedly from working lines, he still can't perform as well as smaller dobermans we've met. Sure he looks intimidating, has a really high drive, but that won't help his joints in the long run, nor his heart. Stay away from most Russian dogs, and most east european countries dogs too. They are basically puppy mills. If you want a real protection dog, look into Masaya and Benchmark. I know a good breeder here in Spain, they are called 'De Covalta' nice dogs with work ability, no hypertypes. If you want a bigger dog, go for another breed.

Thank you for saying this from across the pond. I know so much more than I did 5 years ago. My dog has lots of Russian and altho she's stunning in looks, a perfect size, great athlete and can work like a monster, I just hold my breath on her longevity. It's why I yell at people here to try their best to find breeders who exclude those dogs, do all the testing and often, and title their dogs in the venue they are trying to breed for. You have to stack the odds in your favor, because even when you do all you can, you can still lose at 50 or 60% rates of DCM. Yeah, I stay pretty mad about it.
