Neighbor problems.

ooooooh friends... remember the Tyvek house lady?

This year, she is losing her mind over the fact that we have weeds in the front yard. I'm not particular about that because it's 1. green 2. native 3. drought tolerant 4. kept short and tidy. She can't EVEN. And she pointed to several other neighbors around us that ALSO have weeds and it's just ridiculous.

She cornered dog dad a few weeks ago and told him her guy is the best and anytime she see's a SINLGE weed she texts him and he comes right out and he's better than all these other services out there, etc. He goes, yeah we got some weird clever marketing something in the mail from that company a couple of days ago. She got real exited, I TOLD him to send you a quote! Did you review it! Wasn't it great!?

I'm not interested in paying someone $800 to spray chemicals in my yard, no.

We were on a stroll with the dogs yesterday and she called. We ignored it. She left a multiple minute voicemail about how her weed guy is going to be here Wednesday and he OFFERED to spray out front yard for FREE and isn't that just WONDERFUL. We laughed it off and kept walking. I swear to dog she was waiting for us to walk by. THERE YOU GUYS ARE DID YOU GET MY MESSAGE ISN'T THAT FANTASTIC!?!?

I'm like... so great, he may kill the weed for free and then what? Is he also going aerate, level, over seed, and keep it watered? Like?

I have annoyed written all over my face. She just keeps going: well I can understand if you don't want chemicals (we don't) but I saw you out here pulling weeds (my choice) and he offered for free and he guarantee's his work and I really hope you don't think I'm pushing this on you (you are) because I understand the dogs (see point 1).

So guess we're getting our front yard sprayed tomorrow.

Our nextdoor neighbor just put a big trampoline against our 6 ft privacy fence. The problem is when her kids bounce on it they go above the fence looking down on our dogs. I explained to her last night its a problem with our dogs could she move it. Answer was no because she has no wear else to put it. I told her I wasn't going to have our dogs tormented. Only thing I can think to do now is see if the City will issue me a permit for an 8ft tall fence. This really aggravates me, 20 years in our house and now this. We shouldn't have to spend thousands of dollars to put up a blocker fence but it may come to that. Anyone have any thoughts ? Thanks !
I'd put a tramp on your side and teach your dogs to bounce. Then they could really bark and get a work out in same time..,scare the crap out of those hooligans!
J/k...😉
Ya, I'd wait on the fence.
Your dogs will probly get used to it, if you dont get too worked up is my guess.
We saw neighbor kids and our own go thru the phase and the cheap kits are rusted out and nets sun dried and failing after a season.

In the meantime Take your dogs for a walk and let it go, with the time saved by not mowing their yard.

Good for your blood pressure and the dogs, too.

But how much more a taller fence will block the kids out?
Are they Renting or own the house?
This.
Also, stop mowing their lawn. Just start writing letters to the local entity that is in charge, cc the landlord and/or mortgage holder, plus CPS if the foster kids are under supervision by county or state:

Your yard, you CAN say no! They want to get a foot in the door, and as pushy as they are, I'd not be surprised if they somehow twisted the information and asked to be paid for their treatment. You guys worked hard for your place, think of it like someone reaching in to pet Rubie after you said please do not pet Rubie.

Our lawn consists of probably at least 1/2 weeds! As long as it's mowed, it looks good and we are within the law. It is allowed to get up to a certain number of inches (12? 18?)

Same here mostly weeds and not spraying with animals/kids. Plus, I see the water drain off in most folks yards around here and it’s shiny gunk, clearly chemical runoff. Sad.
I couldn't agree more. Some years ago, living in W. WA State, we obtained a round sign that says "Pesticide Free Zone." Has a ladybug on it. Sign was free but they had us promise we won't use pesticides, which we didn't do anyway.

That said, I admit at our current house here in OH, we were driven to buy like a gallon of insect killer and I sprayed around the house foundation perimeter because we were getting large black ants in the house, and we had already seen firsthand what carpenter ants have done to our back deck. Some parts of it are held together only by paint now.

But, boy, do they make it nice and comfortable and convenient to spray that stuff. The bottle has a battery powered sprayer!

Oh nice I like the pesticide free sign idea!

Yikes well, I would spray for those carpenter ants too they’ll ruin a home. I mean we’ve sprayed for ants in the home because it’s the home and they’ll do damage for sure.

Wow battery powered sprayer lol that does sound really convenient.

Funny we had some company leave us a quote a few weeks back and they listed all the negatives about our grass… half off at 450 dollars for first treatment. Um no thanks. No.

We have .25 acres lol

Oh that would be nice. Our power company does spray for brush and trees every few years but they always send us something asking if we don't want them to do it because of gardens, pets or livestock. I always say no spraying on or near our land and they respect it and cut what they have to by hand.
We do have the Wondercide spray for the yard to keep mosquitoes away (haven't used it yet) but that's all natural.

We have bees. Our neighbor next door built a nice home on 7 wooded acres, then did not like bugs of any kind in the yard. 3 yrs ago he sprayed his yard and killed all of our bees. He had 4 small children who played in that yard. . I will take a few bugs anyday over pesticides in my yard.

As for the weed lady, I would grow a nice big thistle in my front yard just for her.

We called and... It's not even remotely free 😂 but "deeply discounted" for only $80 per service (multiple visits required). I'm really not into it. We might do it for this summer to appease her. I will be sure to f*cking tell her it's definitely not free and if she's got the balls to say "it's only $80" then I'll ask her if we should have them bill her for our lawn, then. We would treat only the front, not the back in a million years. Still not great.

She also has a pest guy come (adding to some above commentary) you know, if we ever need one. She doesn't have an issue IN her house. She just doesn't want things... In her... Yard. What.On.Earth????? Sometimes getting older and peculiar sounds appealing and sometimes it is terrifying.
