More Doberman quirks

In another thread a few of us talked about "social eating" - I've never left a bowl of food out for my dog to choose when to eat, so I can't vouch for that.

But I can give her a meaty bone outside and she will clean all the meat off of it while I'm gone. The bone is good for chewing/gnawing for a couple days but she's not allowed to bring it in the house (raw bone). If I sit on the porch, she will work on it for as long as I'm out there. If I go inside, she drops it instantly and stares in the door and even if she stays out, she won't go back to chewing the bone.

The other social-only thing is her blanket. She grabs it up, shakes it hard, lays on her bed and works it around her left front leg and then holds the blanket and leg together in her mouth for 5 or 10 minutes. She doesn't suckle or chew, just holds it and blisses out. She won't do this except on her living room bed when I'm sitting in there, or if I'm at the dining table within eyesight, or in my bedroom on my bed. Her crate is next to the bed and she has a choice of either place to sleep, but she only does her blanket thing on my bed, never even takes it to her crate bed. And again, she won't do this at all unless I lay on the bed in the afternoon to read or when I get in bed for the night. It is clearly a company-only thing. I've left her for hours in the house alone and the blanket is right where it was when I left.

OK, your turn! What little quirk does your Dobie have that's social only?

Elroy always has to find a toy to grab to bring out to greet dad in the morning when we get up, but Olive doesn't do that much. Of course she's in a super independent stage right now so she beats to her own drum on most things.
Some of them wanted me to be with them when they go potty, but I just can't watch them. LOL
Albert and Phoebe both had to grab a wubbie to suck on when they'd sit on the couch with hubby.
They both need to be in the bathroom with me when I shower and Elroy will sit next to me and watch through the glass shower door. I look to see what Olive is doing and she's snooping around or over standing on the scale weighing herself. I wish she would do that when I'm there to see. LOL

Rose has a routine. She eats her dinner then brings me "Saturn"( it's a donut with a ball in the middle that treats go in). I name all her toys so she can get them when I ask. She always brings it back to me with 1 or 2 treats left in it so I can shake them out for her. Then she brings her bone and puts it in my lap because I need to hold it while she chews on it. This is every evening without fail.

Oh gosh, I've never been able to get a video of it but when we're ready to settle on the couch for the night, usually around 6:30-7p, Rubie will sometimes: go pound water, SPRINT to the space between the couch and TV center, bow, do a kick/scrape dance that often results in all four feet coming off the ground at once, and then do a pirouette, or three. All in the span of 7.5 seconds. Then she'll look for something to chew or thrash or stare at us like, Who wants to rumble? Ok, tough guy.

I'm fairly certain she doesn't do the rest without first chugging water. So weird.

Then promptly throws up a little water? Yea... ask me how I know.

Ripley will get in bed with us and whine until you cover her up with the blankets. She will stop whining as soon as you cover her.

If hubby goes to bed before me Ripley will try to stay up as long as she can until I go to bed. She will hang out in the bedroom for a bit, then come into the office and hang out, sometimes come into the office and stare into my soul with her eyes. Sometimes she doesn't win and falls asleep in either room but she doesn't do this if we both go to bed with her.

If I sit on the couch, Ripley HAS to join me and lay basically inside of my side. Otherwise, you'll usually find her in her chair and not on the couch.

All 3 of the dogs do not enjoy being outside past going potty. As soon as they are done they WANT to come in. If we are out there, outside is all of a sudden so interesting!

I can use the restroom alone, thankfully but Stavros and Revel love to come check on me when I take a bath. I usually take one every evening to warm myself up, especially in the winter. The boys find the whole thing fascinating but not too fascinating that they want a bath too. :D

That's what I had to hit funny about. I usually shower but I took a bath not too long ago and had Elroy in the bathroom with me. The whole time he was giving me that "why are you doing that?" look with his Scooby lips hanging down when he was watching.

When I ask Freyja if she is ready to eat…she runs to the kitchen around the island and Doberstomps the floor mat in front of the sink. A full out, double paw stomp. Then back to her place mat between the kitchen and living room to sit and wait for her bowl of food. I have no idea what that is about…

Freyja smiles at me when I walk in the door from work. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much joy and love in any of my dogs eyes/face as with Freyja.

Also, when in public hanging out with me…she always stands very close, touching my leg or will sit on my left foot. If I am standing there talking to someone and I step away from her, I can feel her back up into my leg just to be touching.

Kaiser does this whenever my hb comes home.

When we eat dinner, Kaiser has to settle but he always figures out when we are both done. We call him Maître K, you know, like the Maître D of a restaurant. His timing is impeccable.

After our dinner, he gets his Moonball (round treat dispenser) so he can roll it around to wind down before we sit down at the tv.

Then in front of the tv, he will stand and stretch long enough to block the signal so we are really just watching him. He will do this until we give him his blanket which he will then suckle for 10 or so minutes in front of us. Then he barks at the closet door because he wants his comfort bed on top of his memory foam bed.

Like this. Grey is the comfort bed. Teal is his blanket. The filthy white thing is his memory foam bed 😆

They both share the same dad who also smiles. Revel doesn't smile.
Neither do these two. I was hoping at least Olive would since her mom is Phoebe's sister but no luck so far. She gets really close with those squinty eyes but nothing else yet.

I wouldn’t say it’s a Doberman trait..just maybe a Luna trait. For the past couple of years (she’s 5 now) she decides the duration of her daily morning walk. After 3 or so years of a daily 60 - 90 minutes hike both on & off lead exercise (we live in the countryside) she now , for no apparent reason, might decide that 10 minutes is long enough & on the odd occasion won’t go beyond the front garden. Other times she’s happy to do a long walk. We’ve never made a big deal about “Walkies”, in fact played it down so she starts her walk in a calm state & she‘s never pestered for a walk. However, get to within 30 minutes of her late afternoon play/training session start time & I‘m treated to the Doberman intense close up stare (see the avatar) that all of my Dobes have displayed.

Jazz thinks she is full Doberman so it probably counts. :D She is impatient if I am not quick enough to pick up her ball when she drops it on my feet and Doberslaps something within range, (not me!). It could be a bucket, my chair or even a solar panel,. Something she started when we were camping and I would throw her ball for her while I was packing up in the morning. Those walloping big feet of hers can send stuff flying!

Our two sleep in our bed, and Glory has to be under the covers....she will 'snow plow' them up until she gets under right next to me, and flops down (usually ON my hip) Clarke likes to share my pillow, and will switch to my husbands if I am moving around too much.
When it's time to eat; Clarke circles around the hall, back into the kitchen, while Glory sits and whines :tearsofjoy:. I think I posted a video once; but here it is again -
