Meet Frannie

The legit shelters, IMHO do NOT kill dogs just because they have been there a certain amount of time. Do NOT let dogs go that have problems be it behavorial or medical without some kind of support.
Sadly this town turned our shelter into a "dog intake pound" after firing all of the employees there. They will only take in animals brought in by law enforcement and will not keep them there. The employees were taking great care of them but apparently there was some red tape with the paperwork they didn't fill out correctly. I don't get why they didn't give them a chance to fix that but who knows what this city is ever thinking.

That's sad! Because of the run on stupid, every place needs a good shelter that's truely in to protect the animals
There are just certain things that government just shouldn't do.....

The animal shelter in this city became a no-kill a while back, but unfortunately, they are perennially overfull of dogs (overwhelmingly Pit mixes that they list as Staffie mixes) and there is talk of having to go back to a kill shelter.

Ugh. It's bad enough they don't know how to keep them but as soon as I read the word breeding, audible words came out of my mouth. And they weren't pretty. If it's one thing I can't stand it's when people want

In fairness taking a dog from a coworker is not the same as a dog from a legitimate shelter. What you are describing should NEVER happen from a place that really cares about the dog.
The shelters I work with just wouldn't let that happen. PEROID!
The legit shelters, IMHO do NOT kill dogs just because they have been there a certain amount of time. Do NOT let dogs go that have problems be it behavorial or medical without some kind of support. And most importantly don't let just ay dog go to just any home.

I hope that both you and @Aaron56 understand that these are NOT the dogs, but the people which is a major reason shelters exist.
Of course. Thanks again for all the good you do.

At least they get off the street and shelter fixed, amiright?

The feral-cat-feeding crazy-lady thing here in suburban SoCal is so frustrating...

The native song bird population has cratered, but on the plus side the song dogs are doing well...

🥸

The ones they catch but it's just a fraction of the ferrel cats running around out there reproducing.

Around here (all of the shelters) are overwhelmed with cats. People won't get them fixed, then let them run wild so the population exploded.

I am about to get a trap myself and start dropping off any feral cats I can manage to catch.

I don't really want those flea infested, likely disease infested cats anywhere near my yard. Especially not anywhere near my garden stuff.

I will not shed a tear if the local shelter puts any down due to a lack of funding for their housing.

I have to agree there. It's not the cats fault but they do pick up a lot of stuff running wild and I don't want them preying on our birds.

Update on Frannie. She has found her forever home! One of the volunteers meet her on Friday and just fell in love with her. She called me this morning and said she has decided to adopt her. I'm not sure of the process from here but as soon as I hear from the shelter Frannie will be headed to her new home! I'm so happy for her. This is not the ideal situation for her because she is so tiny. I have been keeping her and Riley separate because Riley doesn't seem to understand just how big and strong he is. I haven't seen anything that says he would intentionally hurt her but he does play rough. I know that could get better with time but I still don't think our lifestyle would be a good fit for her. She is more of an apartment/small yard kind of dog. She just needs a place big enough to do her business and come back in to lay on a lap. She's gonna get that now so I have no doubt she will get to be the princess she was born to be.

That's great news!

We keep our Dobermans away from my friends IG for that reason too. Neither one would intentionally hurt him but he's so tiny and has those little toothpick legs.

I got a trip soon to visit my mom and she has a pair of female IG's.

We is going to be camped out there for a few day and I worry about my Dobermans getting picked on / harassed the entire time...

The last time we visited mom had to pretty much carry a flyswatter around at all times to 'control her damn dogs'! :)

The birds, pooping in the soil I am growing food for ME and the girls in and the fleas. Fleas which doggies can get tapeworms from... Tapeworms are not fun for a dogs body and neither is the poison you then have to feed your dog to kill said tapeworms...

If I can possibly avoid giving my girls poison - I is going to avoid giving my girls poison.

That can happen with small dogs instigating and if the big dog finally get annoyed, it's the big dog that gets blamed. My friend keeps a pretty good handle on her IG but even if they're innocently playing, one stomp could hurt the little dog.

Mom already told me about their legs breaking and how much it can cost.

She says they can break bones just from doing IG stuff that they normally do. They don't 'need' another dog around to be breaking bones is the way she put it.

Agatha is smack in the middle of the Dober teen / zoomies age range and likely to have some good times with moms girls! :)

Compared to my senior citizen Doberman - Agatha is on crack! :)

I hounded mom almost daily after she lost her oldest girl about how her newest girl 'needed' a playmate / doggie friend. I spent several months trying to explain it to her before she finally understood and got another IG girl.

Mom is happy she has a pair of IG girls. :)

Speaking of the elephants @MyBuddy , any chance you remember the elephant at Brookfield Zoo in the 70's that misbehaved, and they had him chained to a wall for I think it was over 20 years?? I found an article...I just remember the news story about when they finally let him out to see the light of day - breaks my heart reading this again :(

Horrible isn't it? Just horrible. I remember reading another story in other country where people chained elephants all their lives. Someone rescued one and said the elephant actually cried. I don't know if it's true or not but it just broke me reading that. He had been chained for years just like Ziggy. It's just breaks my heart the abuse that people do to animals and children.
