It's a Dobie thing!

Adding to the "hold this for me while I eat it"... Mischa wanted me to hold an ice cube for her tonight. Seriously?? Then she leaned up on my fiance. I told her thanks a lot... Not only did I give her an ice cube but I held it for her and now she wants to give dad lovin instead of mom. :Wtf: lol

Glad I'm not the only one on this one! Mine will wet the covers like no other doing that! Yuk gross LOL
Albert has a special soft cushion that he sucks on so he proudly carries it around with him and that's pretty much all he will suck on. He started it as a baby when he came home and I can only assume it was because the texture is much like it would be to suckle on his mom.

TD has certain toys that he likes to suck on. It is so funny to see him sit and be so gentle with one, but try to eat the face off of others!

Zeke always sucks on the pillows off the couch. Gives my wife an excuse to go shop for new ones. Like she needs an excuse to go shop!!! Lol

That is exactly what TD attempts to do. I have a pillow just for him, but he could care less about it. I mean, after all, my pillows are obviously far tastier.

Mine have always "nursed" - as I've always thought of it! - on any fabric they had what you might call "OK access" to. So yes, couch pillows/blankets, the edges of their beds. I've never had another of my *many* dogs over the years do this, but all four Dobes have - enthusiastically and with a great deal of moisture involved.

This may just be Ava; she doesn't like it when I fall asleep in a chair or on the couch. Maybe she's worried about me, I don't know! I get about a two-hour grace period before she's up on top of me, frantically whacking my chest with her paws (and nails, which grow like weeds; another Dobie thing.) She started this a few years ago; I thought at first that she needed to go outside+, but no, she calms right down - and goes to sleep herself! - as soon as I'm "up," or go to bed (where I'm "allowed" to sleep.)

+Which reminds me - mine have held it in for hours rather than go out in the rain to do their business!! Just getting their *feet* wet was/is annoying enough! Good thing I live in the desert Southwest.

Boy no kidding there. I haven't done ours for close to two weeks because I got a blood blister on one hand and cut the other and they look like talons already.

Albert always puts his cushion and front feet on me when we chill on the couch before bed, then puts me to sleep from sucking on his "wubbie" on top of me. LOL

Yes! Why in the world must their nails grow so stinking fast, and sharp?! Cat paws is no lie. TD's nails look like daggers at the end of the week, but I haven't been able to talk my husband into helping out more frequently than that yet.

I just started doing them on my own a couple years ago because Hubby always rushed me saying things like "good enough?". They actually behave better with just me too because I don't try to rush it.
I did have Hubby hold Albert for a minute yesterday because he split one of his hind nails and I wanted to get that chunk off without going too far.

I've tried on my own, and with the dremel it is impossible. I am going to purchase a pair of clippers and start using them as well because he does much better with those at the vet. Then we can take the dremel to smooth them out.

Roger's I do by myself. He just sits in my lap and we get it done.

I keep forgetting to ask my vet about this. We know how fast they grow, but with the amount of time mine have spent walking on pavement, you'd think they'd be filed/buffed down to *some* degree - so are their nails perhaps harder than those of other dogs?

I was wondering, too, if any of your dogs had a low clotting factor per borderline VW. My Ilse did; my vet was able to spay her, but I was apprehensive about relying on nothing but a styptic pencil if I nicked a quick, so always had her nails done at his office by one of his staff. It seems VW isn't as much of a concern as it was 30 years ago, which is great - maybe the breed's not being "popular" for this long, along with conscientious breeding (i.e., a low percentage of irresponsible backyard breeding) has worked to greatly reduce its occurrence.

I have a concrete backyard and oh yes it works great for filing but I still have to maintenance on them here or there the first time I ever had to do his nails were about a month ago and recently. lol

Every time I look at his nails and they're getting too long, it's dread and stress for me.

Just trimmed them today. Phew.

As for concrete / asphalt: Yeah, it feels very good to see him out front of me, being very much the professional weight-puller, and seeing and hearing those nails scrape across the sidewalk or road. I'll even walk from side to side when he's pulling toward a goal so that the filing effect is spread out.

I noticed with Ares it's really good for the back feet but the two front claws are always the ones I have to trim that's really it. I've never had to do his backs
