Uggh. Another instance on our city info.-sharing site of a stray dog that someone describes as so skinny. In the pic, it actually looks fine.

Zeus our 6 month old (on the left) is 86 lbs! You can see his muscles great and not fat at all! Just a verybig boy! Our breeder thinks he will be about 125!

Picture is hard to tell but looks overweight. Can’t see the tuck up. Looks very rounded which is another sign of overweight. Not sure who you breeder is but Dobermans should never be that big, 125 is way above the standard and will lead down the road to health problems. You need to keep him lean while he is growing and his joints are closing, around 15-18 months.

Dobermans are medium size not a large size breed.

    Standard weight is between 75-99lbs.

Anything more than that or just plain overweight is asking for health issues. Bad joints, heart issues, thyroid issues....

You probably would benefit from health insurance if you’re looking for 125lbs.

I don’t think he’s fat, his Dad is 105 lbs and his Mom is about 70 lbs

That is pretty close to the expected standards.

To give you kind of an idea, you should see a faint glimmer/outline of his last rib. If you have this rib outline and a good undertuck then he should be at ideal weight.

You really want him to be on the leaner side and stay away from letting him get thick.

Just measure the withers to the floor. That’s where his neck joins to the shoulders.
I saw 35” and thought wow that is waaay out of standard, especially for a 6mo old. :D
I think standard for males are 26”-28” at the withers.

Yes, sometimes it's difficult to measure! Sometimes I find it easier to put the dog against a cabinet and just take the ruler horizontal across the withers to the cabinet . Hold the ruler there and remove the dog and measure. 29 to 30 inch at his age is really tall!

He's about an inch taller than his 3yr old sister. I'll measure her!

She is 29 inches, so he's probably 30 inches

Does he have Kimbertal in him?
Hope this question isn’t being too nosy.

Kimbertal is a breeder of oversized Dobermans.

He will be a big boy for sure. Personally I would drop at least 10 to 15 pounds off of him while he is growing. This may help not having joint or health problems later on when he is an adult.
