Goodbye to Dauntless

Oh no, I'm so sorry. :sorrow:

I agree that you made the best choice, even though it was such a hard one.

I'm so so sorry... There is nothing that can ease the pain especially when they are taken so young! My heart is with you. 🙁

So very sorry to read this very sad news, always a very difficult decision 😢 sending love and hugs, will keep you in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time :sorrow:

Thank you everyone for the prayers, thoughts and sympathy. It will be a very long time before we adjust to our new world without Dauntless. We are now focusing on Candor, who has been almost non vocal (she has always been a barker and grumbler), and now hasn't much interest in anything like playing, games, or going for a walk. She is eating normally, but all she seems to want to do is cuddle or lay around. When she used to hear a dog outside she would bark as if a killer was loose, now she runs to the back door, dances from side to side and whines. We think she is expecting Dauntless to come home. Every time she comes in from outside she races through the house looking in every room for Dauntless. I sure would feel better if I could explain it to her!

Boy do I understand those feelings and it's such a huge change. We went through the same thing with Della after losing Boris and now Phoebe after losing Albert. They just aren't the same dogs and I so miss that interaction between 2 Dobermans. It changes the whole dynamic in a different way. The only time Phoebe really starts acting like she used to is when she can get together with Selleck but it still isn't the same as another Doberman.
Give sweet Candor a hug for us...

I guess that in the moment, we don't always realize the impact 2 dogs have on each other until 1 of them is gone. Bryan said that this will have to become our "new normal" unless Candor decides otherwise. Our house has certainly become more quiet, I do miss the Sinisters antics! Time will just have to pass until we find our footing. Candor is a huge blessing right now. I am glad we have her, I can't imagine only having one dog and then losing it, the loneliness must be devastating. Candor, Bryan and I will eventually adjust, just like everyone does when losing a beloved fur baby! :sorrow:

Dauntless did have Blastomycosis, which affected her neurological system. There was nothing that could have been done to save her.
Please let me say thank you again for all all of your thoughts, prayers and for the kindness and sympathy you all have shown. It has helped tremendously.
