My 8 week old doberman, has an almost bare tail nubbins. It is at the tip where the dock was done. She has a 'few' hairs growing in.What can I do to encourage fur regrowth to her ''bare spot''????

If the entire tip is bare then the hair will not cover it. It should have been corrected when the ears were done. If it is a very very small spot then by 6 months the hair should cover it.

If it is not sore or causing her problems you really shouldn't have to put anything on it. If she is licking and chewing at it then it needs to be fixed.

But for hair grow I use Fuzin Ointment - It is a horse product and helps promote hair growth after a wound.

Sorry to say the hair will not grow back on the bare spot. My boy's tail was the same way when I got him at 8 weeks, but as he got older and his hair grew longer, the hair mostly covers the bare spot. You could get the tail fixed surgically if you want to. It's usually done when the pup is already going to be at the vet for something else like cropping or spaying. Saves money that way and reduces the number of times a dog is anesthetized.

Her ears are remaining natural, dobs4ever.I like the look of natural better. She is not bothering the nubbins at all,it just looks odd.Wich is why we didn't really want to go and surgically alter it,if it was not causing discomfort as it MAY start to cause discomfort if we were to ''fix it''.

I will try the Fuzin Ointment to see if any fur will grown in.We were using vitamin E on it to keep it soft, right now.Where can I find the Fuzin stuff at??? Would TSC carry it?

Yes, most of it does depend on the dock, but in most cases the hair does grow long enough to cover it so it isn't visible.

You can get the Furazin at most places that carry livestock supplies. It's technically called Nitrofurazone so if you find that on the label, that should be the stuff. That is what you're referring to isn't it Dobs?

I have the miracle solution! lol

This will re-grow any hair on a wound or otherwise- I use it on all my animals. I just got a new bottle to grow the tiny bare spot on Sugar Tree's tail and I will report back with the progress once I start applying it.

I agree with you here, this is a fantastic product, that I always use with Corona ointment. I swear they are both miracle workers on all kinds of skin conditions.

I had my boys tail redocked when I did his ears and it didnt bother him at all. Now it looks great! and right after it looked good because he closed it up kinda at a down angle so it would grow hair faster and wouldnt show from behind the cut is actually right underneath.

I think either way would work, even though it looks like a spray bottle that you can directly spray on. If you think they'll lick it, put it on right before you take them out or train to give it a chance to soak in and I don't think it would be a danger of them injesting it.
