Falcon's page

Yes, I thought it a great opportunity to get him used to a big show, so only entered one day. Didn't know how he would be, and if it would be too much for him because he is young.... I am thrilled with him. I do hope to continue to show him in the higher levels of obedience, rally for sure. I enjoy rally.

Thank you all for the encouragement to go ahead and order the Rufflands kennel for my SUV even though they said it wouldn't ship until November. I had wanted it for a show yesterday, because Mr. Houdini gets out of the harness in the back, and none of my crates fit in my vehicle anymore.
So I was kinda stressing about the 3 hour trip to the show, trying to figure out how to 'contain' Falcon/Houdini in the back while I drove....he is just TOO busy back there... I checked the Galls website Friday morning, and it still said shipping Nov. 6th. When I got home Friday afternooon, there is was in my driveway!!!! Hallelujah! Once I packed the crate in, and my crate & chair in the back, Falcon hopped right in!
I was so happy. Peaceful drive to the show yesterday morning; had to leave around 4;30am :(
Unfortunately, he was really off his game. Lots of scratching, yawning etc. Not sure why he was so stressed. Maybe the long ride in the dark, new crate? Beginner Novice, no sits, not great heeling, and recall 'close enough' to me, but no focus on me, and no sit. He still scored a 185 and earned his title! Wished I had a video to review...I know it always feels worse than it looks.
I just hope that this is not his 'new' show behavior!!!!

Congrats on your new title!

It may have been the new confinement in the car, or the early morning + 3 hour drive, or all of it combined. Do you plan to leave the crate in the car so he can take short trips to town or to fun places? You've been doing this for so long, I'm sure you have a plan to acclimate him to his new "home" in the car.

I do intend on keeping it in my car....I take the kids just about every morning to different places to walk. I think you hit the nail on the head....combination; but especially the crate. I got it Fri. night - made sure he would jump into it, then did not take him anywhere till the next morning in the dark. He can no longer see me from back there, as it is an enclosed kennel, as opposed to the wire one from awhile back. When we got to the show, I took him for a long walk around the property, and then had him jump right back in it - which he did gladly....so I could get my soft crate and chair into the show, and check everything out. He was barking the entire time I did that, which I could hear from inside . I didn't even consider that he was stressed, because it didn't seem like it....I am certain that was a huge part of it. But I was so grateful to have it!!! It stormed on the way home, and I was stressed driving...so I was again thankful that he was not poking his big head onto my shoulder as I tried to navigate my way home. Praying that the continued crusing around in it makes him more comfortable with the idea...and that this is not his new show attitude. I keep forgetting that he is a baby! He is so big!
It was a double trial, and I stayed for the afternoon trial, which he scored 2 points better...so that encouraging

It was indeed the crate...Monday morning he would not hop in....I tried throwing treats, putting a leash on him, NOPE....so I put him back in the house, and Glory and I left without him. When we got back, I brought him out to the car, and he JUMPED RIGHT IN! Just like a little kid.....'Don't leave without me!' He has really been a dream to teach and train....he is so eager to please, and recovers quickly. He has hopped in every day this week to go on excursions and does not cry or whine on the way!

We entered one day at a local show on Saturday, we did Rally Intermediate in the a.m. so I could get some ring time with Falcon, then Novice B in the afternoon. I was so impressed with this boy! During Rally, Falcon was doing alot of stress scratching, and of course it felt like I was all over the place on the course....I kept reminding myself that I only needed to watch my own foot work and signs; Falcon was going to do whatever he remembers to do. The judge commented that Falcon stayed right with me as he was trying to scratch! If you listen to the judge at the end, he said "That's what a perfect score looks like". The judge got a big kick out of him.

Here is our first attempt at Novice B; and only 2 of us qualified, so it made the stays so much easier!! I was nervous at first, because he would have been sitting next to a black Newfie...and I had no idea what he would think of that. I had heeled Falcon around near him when I saw we would be next to one another, then he didn't even have to. We scored a 187 and got 1st place! What a day!!!

Falcon achieved his Rally Intermediate title this past weekend! We got our second leg in Novice B as well  I didn't get any videos, but he did really well! It was a double trial, and I only did Rally twice...so he needs one more leg for his CD. This time he was next to a Leonberger and an Aussie for the stays....I was certain he would get up..he kept looking at me every time one of those dogs shifted, like "MOM! Who are these guys?!". I was so proud of him to stay....thank goodness it's not 3 minutes like the old days!
