I try to change them every 5 days but sometimes it’s every 3How often are you changing his posts? Looks like the tape was a little too tight there. I'd use vetericyn to clean it out, let dry then apply some Neosporin.
I have used gauze between the post and a sore but I'd maybe let that one dry for a day or two and tape everything but the tips.
He’s about 5 months we started the process very late with cropping and such but we’ve gotten great progress one stands one is limp but I really appreciate they information what do you recommendDon’t feel guilty or like a crappy mom- this kinda stuff happens.
How old is your pup?
I would keep him out of posts and let it dry and establish wound healing for a day or two.
You can saturate with antibiotic ointment on the wound, then saturate a piece of gauze with antibiotic ointment to cover/bend over that part of the ear and then post and tape over that.
I have some pictures to show how to do that but can’t find them right now. Have to go to daughters soccer game….will get back to you on that.
Thank you so muchCheck out this thread.
I found a past thread that I gave information in. Read through this and down about half way I posted pictures and instruction on how to cover a sore spot while posting.
If you do this you need to make sure to cover with ointment so it doesn’t stick when you remove it to change out.
I would change out every three days so to keep an eye on what’s going on.
oh no I tried opening the link but it’s saying it’s no longer availableCheck out this thread.

Thank you owning a dobie is a great thing but these ears are a bit tricky lol thank you for all the informationI had the same issue as you when I got Ragnar. About 1/2" of the outside tip on both ears. They were both bloody and goey--close to infection.
I kept posting because I did not want any time down and I did not want it exposed. He is so damn rough that he would have gotten dirt all in it.
I went to the drug store and got some 4x4 sterile gauze. I cleaned the wounds thoroughly with Vashe wound cleaner and then put Silvasorb gel on the ear wound and also on a cut out portion of a 4x4 gauze.

When you put the back taped backerrod in the ear tape, tape the base around the ear first to secure it in the ear, then go up to the middle and tape that in-all the while going towards direction of ear fold.
This will help secure the backerrod in the ear while you fold the tip of the ear back and place half of the cut 4x4 on backerrod and then fold it over on top of the ear.

Mind you that this piece of 4x4 gauze is not dry nor is the wound area. It is saturated with Silvasorb gel. If I was you, I would go online and buy Vashe wound cleaner and Silvasorb gel. This stuff is priceless. It It is phenomenal stuff for wounds and infections.
Check out this thread I posted.
Wound care solution/ointment
If it does not come up do a search on here for "wound care solution/ointment".
Anyway, when you wrap the area of the wound and fold it over like a taco, the wound is now covered and protected (the Silvasorb gel will help it heal). You can now tape over it and secure this area to the backerrod and not have to worry about it flopping or getting dirt on the exposed wound. Also, when I took the tape and 4x4 piece off for reposting, I was slow and careful, it did not pull at the wound area because the 4x4 was previously saturated with the gel. You can quickly get the 4x4 at a drug store but will have to wait for the Vashe and Silvasorb to come in the mail. Just get you some triple antibiotic gel when you pick up the 4x4 gauze at the drug store. Also, you can clean the wound with rubbing alcohol. This will do until you get the good stuff in the mail.
Easy to say instructions but not that easy to do. Just stay calm, don't get frustrated---she will squirm.
Just have all the stuff laid out and ready. Be methodical and have a plan. It will get better as you do it. After the 5th post, it was much easier and she will know what to expect.
Ain't that the truth! We are on our fourth Doberman but the first time in almost 30 years that I have posted ears! I was terrified.Thank you owning a dobie is a great thing but these ears are a bit tricky lol thank you for all the information
Thank you I appreciate the reassuranceAin't that the truth! We are on our fourth Doberman but the first time in almost 30 years that I have posted ears! I was terrified.but like anything, practice makes perfect. And these ears have to be done so often and for so long that you get quite good at it.
I am no Pro, believe me. But it has gotten easier. You are getting some great advice here. Take your time, keep calm and keep at it! You're doing awesome!

How she got that off, I don't know! She hasn't gotten one off like that since the beginning. And I thought I had it on pretty good.
