So I’ve tried posting 3 or 4 times now and everytimr she shakes her head and one of them pops out of the ear…I felt like I got it deep enough in the canal but I guess not?

I’m using 1/2 inch backer rod with 2 zip ties, a layer of duct tape and zonas tape that sticks to the ear. Please help? Idk what I’m doing wrong and I feel bad that I have to keep putting her through my struggles. The edge of her ear started bleeding a little tonight when I removed it so I’m just going to let her ears heal up a little before I try again…

Also how bad are her pockets? Should I keep adding a low bridge? Or maybe a bumper? I’m not sure if this is how her ears are supposed to be standing at 12 weeks or if I need to adjust my posting stradegy?

I forgot to share this video as well. It was really hard for me to learn to post his ears too, my Dobie has a scar from my mistakes. It is always hard to learn this the first time. Take time to watch the video and learn to fold the ear and position them properly. It doesn't have to be perfect. I bought an adhesive removal for skin and other materials. The zip tie method was the easiest and lasted long enough. It requires a lot of patience as this is uncomfortable for them.

Thank you I will try this method.

as far as how her ears look now in the picture above should I be doing anything different? A bridge? Or bumpers?

If theyha pockets on their ears you will need a bumper. My dog didn't have pockets and I always made sure to stretch his ears when posting. I don't see pockets in your Dobie but there's a video in case you need a bumper. I always did a bridge until his ears were strong enough to stand on their own. I posted his ears until he was about 8 months maybe a little more.

Don't be discouraged, it is difficult when this is new to you. It looks to me that you are using alot of tape...that will make them heavy, and easy to pull out of the ears just with the shaking of the head.
I am not familiar with using the zip tie method...but from the first photo you show with her ears out of posts, they don't look like they need a bumper. There are many tutorials on here; sorry I don't know how to 'share' a link....but plenty of info on here to help!

Thank you! I’m using a 1/2 backer rod so it might be too large for her ears? It seems a little difficult to squeeze it into the canal. Maybe try to size down to 3/8?

I have some new tape that was recommended to me coming in today. So hopefully it’ll stick a little better. Should I continue bridging for now?

You can use Torbot glue https://www.amazon.com/s?k=torbot+glue&crid=QOGSQ3M9E9OF&sprefix=torbot+glue,aps,96&ref=nb_sb_noss_1 to lightly spread on the inside of the ear, and when it is tacky, put your post in....then you can cut back on all that tape you are using, and put a piece around the tip, and one around the bell. Snug, not too tight...and I don't think you need the bridge. This was my boy at 4 months old...

Awe handsome boy! Thanks for the advice:)

Yes, switch to 3/8. I found 1/2 too large to properly seat. Are you using any adhesive remover? That can make a big difference for skin integrity. Your posts look better than mine so far!

I don't see any pockets so you can lose the bridge and don't need a bumper.

Okay thanks JanS I won’t add a bridge next time:)

I ended up buying 3/8 backer rod last night and double duct tape wrapped them then put on some of the recommended tape.

I definitely felt the the rod hit the bottom of the canal. I think the 1/2 inch was too large for her…she hasn’t shaken them out yet so that a plus!

Yeah I’ve been using the blue goo gone adhesive remover, and it helps the tape come off pretty easily.

Switched to 3/8 last night and definitely felt like it fully sat in the canal.

Good to hear! You will probably wind up going back to 1/2" as she grows so hang on to it.
