I know you guys will reach those goals! IGP sounds fun. Will you be trying that with Ripley and Stavros?

just Ripley right now... and maybe her puppy...

Stavros is already suspicious of new people and has come really far, I want to keep him thinking 99% of people are good so I don't need to add any pressure to him yet. At least while he is still young.

Already on the path to joining our club! Got invited to come out to a club day soon and to bring Rip! :wideyed:

I realized I don't have any goals for Stavros just yet. With 3 dogs now onto a possible 4th (I still help train Revel), I've tried to take it easier on myself with the up and coming ones. Let them tell me what they like. With Ripley, it was all new fun and very exciting and it still is. She's a very special girl! But I have to spread my time, energy, and funds now carefully. I was a bit down that I didn't reach two of my goals with Ripley this past year, not really for lack of trying or any fault of my own (well we did choose to breed her last minute but for good reasons). Still goals we set and then didn't reach so trying to not beat myself up too much about it when we did accomplish a lot! Starting out with Ripley my only goal was to earn her CGC... And now look at us!

Stavros:
- Pick up some points towards his CH. A major this year would be nice!
- Join some kind of class to continue his obedience.
- Try out agility class with him.

Really it'll be a year of learning with him. ☺️

Goal for Me: be kinder to myself and acknowledge all the challenges I've overcome to achieve what I have achieved.

maybe at least assessed for a suitable temperament/nerves for protection work
If you're in the southern part of Idaho, Ogden UT has a really active all breed club that you might want to check out. The only one I saw in ID declares that are GSD only. OR & WA have several clubs. It's like me in NM, I'm not close to anything!

I'm so excited for you and to watch these goals unfold Plus all the photos and videos that will come with! 🥰

I'm especially excited to hear about your visit to the IGP club! I'd love to see more Dobermans from show lines get a taste of it - Anyone who can do obedience can get a BH!!! And depending on the dog, I'm betting mine is not the only one who likes the big expanse of the field much better than the confines of a show ring for "normal, fast, slow and recall"!

You accomplished a hell of a lot in 2023 and you still have several more weeks of puppies on your plate, slow down and enjoy the ride! We'll be backing you the whole way!

Love reading all of these.

I’d like to keep building on Peppers training so she’s a well adjusted dog. At 14 weeks I think she’s doing really well.

I am planning a lot of hikes with her small ones, but at least exploring a lot this summer. We will also get into the local creek and try out shallow swimming. When she’s 18 months we will start to run and I hope to do some races with her too.

We have a beach trip planned and that should be fun for us all to have her there.

So basically training, exploring, and becoming well adjusted. She’s a family dog and my bff so Im excited to keep bonding with her.

Continue with IGP training Arson to try and get better scores. He is still young at 4yrs 6mo old. Just got his AKC CGC and Trick Dog Titles.
Maybe do a Breed Survey at the upcoming UDC Nationals in April. Since the UDC doesn't recognize his BH and other IGP Titles from our Club. Maybe get his BH and IGP1 at the Nationals.

It's only titles that were before USCA got back into FCI, right? So if you got BH & IGP1 when they weren't recognized and re-did them, then the 2 & 3 would automatically be accepted? What a Charles Frank that was! But it might be fun to go back and get a BH & 1 at Nationals since Arson has so much experience now! They always say to improve training go back to what's easy - you'd both have a great time with little pressure, plus Nationals would be a feather in the cap! Whatever you do, best of luck and have fun and share photos! Our Bitey Sports threads need you!

Speaking of the UDC Nationals, where are they this year? I dropped my membership about a year ago.

So @Ddski5 gave me an idea to put out here:

He started a thread showing working with his stated goals with Freyja, pictures and all in the Training and Behavior section and titled it 2024 Goals with Freyja! I suggest anyone who wants to share (or work on accountability!) start your own thread with your dogs name so we can follow along! Remember this isn't a competition, it's just showing us doing things with our dogs. @jazzies mum, I expect you will have a road trip thread all on its own in the off-topic, but you could still pop in with some photos of some things that were particularly dog-related wins!

I'm off to start my own thread with Asha!

So, since the year is coming to an end, I’m curious to hear how everyone’s goals went! Did you reach them? Did your plans change along the way? Did you do more than expected? I’ll make a new thread for 2025 goals in the new year, but for now feel free to summarize your 2024 goals and if you reached them. Life gets in the way and sometimes our plans change, so don’t feel bad if things didn’t go as planned!

This is a summary of what I wrote for Remy in the start of 2024 and how things went. (Bold text will be the original goal):

Start trialing in rally, maybe earn his RN.
-We haven’t done this yet. I still want to, it’s just not my top priority right now! I meant to sign up for a local trial in December but I totally forgot about it until I saw photos from the event today…

Start training for scent work and maybe trial.
-We did start training and trialing! We went to two trials, each technically held two trials per day. He finished all 4 element titles (interior, exterior, container, buried) which earned him his overall Scent Work Novice (SWN) title. He also went High In Trial!

Start showing.
-We did our first show, an AKC Match, in April! In June we tried a UDC show, and in July he made his official AKC debut showing with a handler. At the end of August/beginning of September I did another match with him then an official show. I handled him myself again in October and November. No luck with points yet, just a lot of reserves. I’m hoping 2025 will be his year!

Continue doing FastCat.
-He earned his BCAT and CA. There aren’t a lot of local events (I’m talking under 3 hours lol) so I try to get to as many as we can. He really loves it!

Take his CGC test.
-He passed his CGC in April! I’ve been wanting to try for the CGCA but never got a response from the evaluator…

Start jumping into the pool/dock diving.
-Well, I don’t think he’ll ever be a dock diving dog lol, but that’s okay.

Remy had a great year! And what you said, so true: You set your goals but it's OK if things go south or just don't go at all. I think goals are something to continually strive for or even change up when life shows that's not the right path at the right time. Your scent work was smashing! What many may not know is that in SW, you have to Q in 3 trials in each of 4 elements to get that element title which adds up to 12 Q's to get your completed level title!

I had aimed to complete my Excellent level in Scent Work, but only got one element (exteriors) title, the other 3 elements proved to be tougher than I had prepared for. Only went to one SW trial in 2024, due to time & money constraints.

We also completed our 3 Q's to get Ashas CD title which made me super proud and we worked hard at CDX exercises and stepped out on a limb to trial in that. 3 NQ's for that effort, but we LEARNED so much, pushed to at least try and no regrets for that.

I also see that I was going to work on retrieves and jumps, which have truly become great at home, but not so much in trial, so that should stay on the list to continue working on. I had added send-out with down plus long down w/out creeping and whining... and I guess I totally forgot that was on my list 😜 because it wasn't in the CDX exercises. Similar, but not the same, we did teach & learn the down on recall, which Asha did great on.

We've always done at least one or two hikes a week, sometimes slow, but just getting out and walking while Asha runs and sniffs and investigates is all we need and is especially refreshing to break up lots of training drills.

As long as we're working on something Asha is happy, so I should go make goals for 2025!

Thank you! We’ve definitely learned a lot and he blew away my expectations.

Congrats on the SEE! Asha does a great job and I bet she’ll get the other elements in no time!

Nice work on the CD! You’re right, even if we don’t Q it is a great learning experience!

This reminds me of when I put Remy in a stand stay and walked 30ish feet away. I turned around and he was slowly creeping towards me lol.

Sometimes these slow hikes are the best! Just a nice way to relax and get out there with your dog.

I think it is really amazing that you and Remy do so much together! I love seeing the photos and hearing how your events went. You’re a good dobie momma!

You two have inspired Pepper and I to start on our journey. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you! It’s funny to me because I didn’t know most of these things existed before I got Remy. I first became interested in showing then everything else quickly followed lol.

Pepper is doing FastCat soon, right? Or did she already go? I can’t remember lol. It is so much fun!
Very impressive!
Thank you!
