Does my doberman look American or euro?

Robvilla

Novitiate
Doberman is blue doberman, mom and dad are both black. Breeder claims she retired and that the dobermans are both euro. Breeder cropped tail, vaccinated and de wormed, also received puppy at 7 1/2 weeks. I will test my puppy and do the dna test for embark. I don’t want to breed, it’s my pet and I want to train him as family dog.

Welcome! Cute pup there. That's cool that you plan to DNA test him.

Well, it is quite early to tell, and I'm not an expert at analyzing structure and appearance of young pups; but the only sign I see that gives me an opinion at this point is that his paws look to tend toward the hare-like. Euros often have this.

You won't know without a pedigree. A proper breeder should have given you a pedigree. The standard between the two is fairly close. Enjoy your puppy and make sure to socialize him since he went home a little young.

Welcome!

I agree that the pup is way too young to tell and the only way to know is to see the pedigree.

Thank you all for response. Yea I will get the pedigree with the embark dna test so I should know more. The paws do look like a euro tho. He’s a big boy.

If those are his natural ears they sure are cute and small which hopefully translates to them staying on the smaller side as an adult too.

I agree he’s too young to see the more Euro type features.

Sorry but you are asking a question that no one here can answer because there is simply not enough info to make an informed ansewer.
Did your breeder not furnish you with your puppies pedigree?

With all due respect posting 4 photos of a 7 1/2 week old puppy and asking it lineage is like posting a photo of a 3 month old human baby and asking what is the family history of the parents? If it was really important to you the window of opportunity to ask the question has closed.

While I do understand your wish to know unless you are planning to breed your puppy does it really matter if it is American, European or a mix of both?

My advise is at this point is to not worry about your puppy's lineage and instead focus on enjoying that sweet adorable puppy that you posted photos of.

As long as you give your puppy all of the love that your heart is capable of and you do your best to train him/her to be the best dog they can be. The rest is just info in the long run has little to no bearing on how much you will love your puppy or what your puppy can achieve or will grow up to be. The important thing is to simply love and enjoy your puppy!

If you do that I see a long & happy future for both you and your puppy!
And when it comes down to it is that not what is really important?
Cheers
MR

Without the pedigree it’s just a guessing game.
The breeder should have provided the puppy’s pedigree before you made a commitment to buy.
The pedigree is one of the things a serious breeder uses to plan a litter. An educated buyer looks at the pedigree when deciding whether to buy a puppy, and a responsible breeder will be proud to show you the dogs pedigree certificate and explain it to you. If a breeder doesn’t seem to know much about the pedigree, that’s a red flag.

Euro vs. American doesn't matter nearly so much as both parents being titled and health-tested.

Cute puppy. Love, train and enjoy him.
