Flying an two month old puppy in carry-on

Hello, in August, I will be buying an eight week old puppy. I live in California and the breeder is in Kansas. This is approximately a five hour flight. I have also considered driving and picking him up, but that is over a 20 hour drive.

If you have flown your new puppy home, which airline did you go through ? which carry-on bag did you decide to purchase? What are your best tips and tricks for the flight with the puppy?

His ears will be cropped and tail docked.

My breeder offers both nanny air delivery in ground delivery. I really don’t trust someone to drive the dog across the country and the flight. I will consider if the task seems too difficult to achieve without any experience. Thank you for any advice you can give.

I haven't done it but I saw lots of passengers go through Delta with their pups as a carry on. As long as they can fit under the seat, which an 8 week old should be able to.

Most people used a soft sided pet carrier with a handle on top to make it easier to carry.

Our first two were flown to us from the breeder but I don't believe they're allowing it anymore after covid.

We found an excellent pet transport guy who will pick a pup up at the breeders door, then drive them directly to your door and his prices are pretty good. He's done an excellent job with our pups and he keeps you updated the whole way so I completely trust him.

I love the idea of Jan's transport guy....I would be way to nervous to fly a puppy. If it howls the whole time in the plane? My ears blow out every time I have flown...I always wonder about animals.

I know puppies have been transported by plane for a long long time, but I have always wondered about how it might affect a puppy – especially if they are going through a fear period.

I flew my first Dobe to New York City and Burbank, CA, but he was a full grown adult and very well trained and his brain had been about as well developed as is possible for a dog. He had to fly in the cargo bay, sadly, even though on my trip to and from NYC, I got bumped up to first class by a very nice airline employee in Minnesota :martini::sunglasses: Dobe fared just fine.
