Crusty / peeling nose

Our almost 5yr old Dobie has an issue with a peeling / crusty / flaky nose. It's on the outer edge of the nostril. At first we thought maybe it was an injury due to it being only on one side and it had a raw / bloody look in the crevice. That raw / bloody look is gone but now the "crustiness" is on both nostrils. He has no colored or abnormal drainage. We've tried coconut oil for a couple of weeks but it hasn't gone away, doesn't look to be getting worse either though (other than being on both now.

Day 2 and 3 pics definitely look like something is going on. Also with those smaller spots appearing around it.

Looks like there might be some discharge or seepage going on? I'd have the vet check it out for sure to see if theres any infection.

Don’t put oil on something that is seeping. If she were a kid, I would guess impetigo. Vet check might be best. Make sure that is not internal as well.

My housemate has a Dutch Shepherd and has dealt with something similar for years. Nothing seems to work. I posted this about it a while back, but it's still the same: Gets better for a while, then worse, then better again. No matter the diet or medicines it just comes and goes.

Raw crusty nose

Reckless the Dutch Shepherd has had this nose problem on & off for 5 years (she's 8 now). J has tried everything, the vets just shrug and say this ointment or that ointment. They haven't suggested a skin scraping which I guess will have to be requested. It will get better to the point of looking...

Update. Vet suspects a bacterial infection but also did a culture to rule out ring worm. Won't know the results of that for 2 weeks. He prescribed animax anointment 4 times daily. If no improvement,or positive test for ring worm, we'll change meds.
