Critters and wildlife in your area - post your pics

So the other day I saw my first coyote! I was outside cleaning horse stalls with Annie. I usually don't like to take her out with me while I do that since I can't keep my eye on her all the time. But I only had one left to do and she hadn't been out for a while so I took her out with me. I just keep stopping to check on her.

So this day I thought I heard my neighbors dogs barking which made me step to the door to check for her. I look to my right (by the neighbor with the white fencing) and I see what looked like she chased a cat up our tree! I'm like what the heck? Where did he come from? It looked like a orange cat. I don't know anybody that's got an orange cat. But I know there are a couple of strays around.

In any event, as I'm looking at her, out of the corner of my eye I see something in my pasture! The horses were looking at it too and I realized it was a coyote! In this video capture you can only see his legs through the fence.

So Annie had her e-collar on and I am excitedly calling her and pressing the buttons! I didn't know really what to expect if she saw it and I was a little afraid of having control of her. She came to me but on her way over she saw it in the pasture! This is her standing at the fence after she came by me.

These are just video captures and not good quality because I was all over the place! Trying to take video, trying to call her, trying to run and get a firearm. But she did very well coming to me when I called her. Because come to find out later that the e-collar remote was not even on! 😯

So first she came across the property to the pasture and stood there looking at him. Then I kept calling her and we went around the Corral to get into the barn and as we did she was going to keep going around the other side to where the coyote was heading. But I was yelling at her to come and she did. :thumbsup2: I got her into my tack room and locked her in and I went out to take a shot at him. Wasn't necessarily trying to kill him but I certainly wanted to scare the crap out of him. And I did. He flew into the trees on my neighbor's property and I haven't seen him since.

WOW! I know the adrenaline....great images! I love how all yours were interested in the 'trespasser'! Good girl Annie coming to mom!!!! Wish I took my phone out this am with Glory.....she was on her tip toes in the front off leash (with e collar) and I could not see what was over the hill...so as I was going to say STAY with me...she took off. As I got to the hill I saw 5 white tails with her in hot pursuit! The deer flew into the woods as I used the bell and her name, nope...so had to buzz her on a 30 and she made a big loop barking as she returned to me. I don't think she is trustworthy without that collar on! I really only use it for these situations, and am glad to have it!

Never have, but basically they're just fresh water shrimp/lobsters. I think @Ddski5 talked about backyard cajun cookouts, I'm thinking crawdads are usually in the mix?
Yeah I'm very familiar with them. Crawdad boils are very popular around here. Just not for me. Boil a big pot of crawdads with corn, potatoes and seasoning then scoop it up and dump it out on a table and everybody goes for it. NO THANKS!

Crawfish here in Louisiana….
It is a common favorite, a true cultural necessity to eat in South Louisiana from January to June.

We boil anywhere from 30lbs to 200lbs in a setting- crawfish, shrimp, sausage, garlic, potatoes, corn, pineapple.

No, I don’t suck the heads for the juice- wasting time if you ask me. I like to get to the tail meat and other additives.

In my opinion, this would be my death row last wish dinner meal. Just nothing compares to spicy boiled crawfish.

If it was in front of me, I'd try it for sure. But anytime I saw it on a menu, I just opted for something else. I never disliked any food from the south, but I always preferred salt water critters & fish to the fresh water version.
