Wow they must be running late this year. I bought an orange and put it in the fridge for when they do get here but I gave up on feeders since they just stop by for a week or two, then move on.

I took this picture on Thursday and by Saturday afternoon they were gone. I feel like they were too small to have flown off already? What do you guys think? I’m hoping nothing got to them.
They are feathered out but I can't tell how much they have on their wing feathers. They could have flown off though since many birds leave the nest after they are feathered.

So, I'm sitting on a log in a nearby park area texting BW who tells me neighbor across street had a juvenile coyote trot up to his driveway and shoo'd it off by voice, earlier.
Just then Bonnies ears perk up and hackles rise. I like to have her walking ahead 15-30 feet on off leash hikes-getting her sniffies in, or sitting at side or in front so I can pick up her body language (my hearing sucks)...so I look up and start video recording.
These are screenshots so the definition is bad, vs iphone16 excellent camera, and tge video can be zoomed as well while shooting...so this is me practicing, trying to find whatever she is alerting on...

Dog park friend of BW is chief enviromental officer at a military base who confirms this time of the year as coyotes are denning and raising a litter, the one year olds get handed their provisional license to be out hunting at daytime, to learn territory, vs the typical dawn or dusk time to hunt their food, which are out and about at crepuscular periods. Cool! I've been waiting and watching for them! So far its been the Grosbeaks but not the Orioles. But usually when I see one the other is close behind.
Is that a dragonfly larva? I got some in one of my tanks hitchhiking on some plants and they turned into monstrous looking things as they grew.

Wonder how he hitchhiked to your yard? Not many places to hide on a bag of mulch.

I've been going to a pond by my house for about 16 years now with my current boy and my old girl. We call it daily pond adventures and it is a time to be grounded, pay attention to the beauty around and forget for a short time about the daily "noise" of life. I have hundreds of pictures from over the years lol but I will only share a few so I don't clog this up!

My friend in town has been finding dead baby turtles in her yard lately. She called the DNR the other day and they said you'd be amazed at how far those moms will go to lay their eggs. I know they come into our yard to lay eggs sometimes and we're quite a ways away from a body of water.
