Isn't that just drool? Or does he have a toad in his mouth and the toad is pissing in self defence?
No it wasn't in his mouth anymore but they always drool after a toad releases the slime in self defense. We're lucky they aren't poisonous around here because some can be in other areas.

Looks like my foster dad has become home for 'Henry!' (He's already named him, 'Henrietta' if it's a girl) He/She wanders up for a drink and a snack each evening about 8.30-9pm. Lol

I wish I had pictures for this one but it's just a tale! ;)

My granddaughter and I were out in the pasture cleaning up some horse manure. She was driving the golf cart and I was shoveling. The dogs were out with us too but were closer to the house then we were but still inside the pasture with us. Suddenly my granddaughter says, "Deer!" My first thought was, yeah, we see them a lot around here. And I continued with my job. But I looked up to see what she was talking about and the cutest damn spotted little fawn slid to a stop and stare at us about 40 ft away. I was so excited to see such a cutie pie that I stared for a second! Of course all this happens within nanoseconds and at the end of all that, the next thought is, OMG, where are the dogs? I turned back to look, and at the same time Mama Deer is running behind her baby and the dog's spot her! They take off.... all four of them!

I'm yelling at Buddy and, the good dog that he is, he stops. Kali, on the other hand, is like a freaking bullet. The whole time I am screaming Kali, Kali, Kali!!!! Kali Come!!!........ and she just zoomed past me like a blur LOL I start running after her but she ran and chase them all the way to the back of the property where they disappeared into the cornfield and then, thankfully, Kali stopped. Sigh. Oh my God unbelievable she is like a freaking bullet it's amazing how fast a little dog can go LOL

My husband was all the way back at the house and he saw the commotion and the dogs chasing the deer. When I told him the whole story, with Kali chasing them the whole way, he's like, "And what did she think she was going to do with them?"

Exactly!

After it was all over, I was kicking myself that I didn't grab my phone for pics! But it all happened so fast and all I could think about was, "Aww, how cute.......... where's the dogs???

Thank goodness she did stop since like I said, those hooves can be deadly and it would have been really bad for a small dog.

I know. My only thought is that she'd chase it into the next county. lol I didn't really think she's catch up to them. I think of her like a horse race. In the quarter horse race, she'd be great. Quick, but only for a short distance like a Quarter horse. The thoroughbred (deer) will go the long haul. :spit:

And speaking of deer, this was at 5am this morning. My husband thought she was eating off the apple tree. To the left is our dwarf peach tree being held up with a ladder. It actually broke a couple of limbs already. :( It is so laden with peaches that are just now becoming ripe enough to eat!

Speaking of fawns, I saw a little tiny one on the road the other day and it looked to be almost newborn since it was still pretty wobbly on it's legs. I didn't see mom anywhere so I hope it will be okay.

Early this morning I woke from a sound sleep to hear a bunch of wolves howling very near the house, in fact closer than I've ever heard them before. Both dogs woke up and looked out the window but there wasn't a peep out of them, which tells me they have the same respect for them as they do bears, which is a good thing to me. If it was fox or coyote they'd be barking their heads off.
That was only about 15 minutes before it was time for them to get up and go out but luckily they stick pretty close to the house.

Hubby took these last week in Alaska so I thought I'd stick them here.

Can you spot her peeking out?

That's better...

Oddly enough, we had the same thing happen with coyotes not too long ago!! I've been wanting to post about it for a while now and you've just brought up the thread for me! ;)

Though we've had this happen many times since living here, it's still sort of rare. Maybe once a year they will wake us in the middle of the night, sounding like they are right outside our bedroom window! It happened a couple of weeks ago when the a/c was not on and the windows open. Suddenly, they are YIP, YIP, YIPPING and HOWLING right by the house, so loud that its like they are standing in the window! lol

I flew outta bed to hit the outside flood light but didn't see any of them. :tap: But, man! What a start to wake up to screaming coyotes!!!

Buddy gave a small Woof, but didn't even leave his bed. We've been outside at night with the dogs for the last potty and have heard them in the distance. Buddy seems to have the same respect/fear that yours have, as he usually just stands there and listens or even heads for the stairs! lol That's fine with me! Cause when I am out with the dogs and hear coyotes in the dark, I'm :sonic: to get them in!! Especially Kali!

One of my friends posted this on FB today, with the question..."Argh, what the hell is this?"

I've been scratching my head  all morning thinking what the hell it could possibly be, it's pretty weird looking, right?

Well, turns out it's a goose barnacle....(thanks to another girlfriend for her input!)

Kali was on the deck yesterday and started barking away again! I look out to see....deer again! lol I think they ate a lot of the peaches and apples that had fallen to the ground. And probably knocked some off too! This one was mom and baby. The baby is hard to see under the tree there. By the time they saw me coming out, they took off. I tried zooming in on the pics I did take but its still kinda small.

A doe had her 2 fawns in the yard this morning but I only got one lousy pic (it wasn't really light out yet) before they spotted me and bolted. I'm surprised they still have their spots unless she had them a little later.
