Yesterday she was in the pond with Drake. Making weird faces, I knew something was up so I called her. Sure enough she was hiding a tadpole.
I have to say yesterday was the first time in my life I've seen a turtle in the yard. Don't ask me where it was going or where it came from but I can only assume they've taken up residence in a beaver pond not too far from here.
Last year there was a dead snapping turtle (a big one) on the road and that really shocked me.

Turtles are pretty common around here, especially box turtles. Unfortunately another that is road kill because they are not fast enough getting across the road.
Also not uncommon to find them in your garden or at least evidence (big chunks taken out of vegetables) they have been there.
Nice and snake never go in the same sentence together.

We had a garden snake the other day about the same size as that guy.
He didn't want to posture or fight, he flat hauled his...uh, self out of there!
These guys never move fast. Or run. They will usually curl up, do that hiss thing (which is just inhaling and exhaling) and try and look dangerous. If you try and push them away to try and make them go away, they don't. But they will strike out at you if you push it.

Well the turtle is back tonight and it dug a nest and is laying eggs as we speak. Great, this is right off our apron where I back out of the garage so I'm going to have to be really careful coming out. Hubby said he saw at least one or two eggs in there already a while ago and it's still out in the same spot wiggling it's tail.
His green color is beautiful. Perfect little show quality frog. Hahaha
