Critters and wildlife in your area - post your pics

We have a couple mallards that think they need to live at our house. They are persistent little things. The dogs had them run off for a couple of days but they're back!
It's dobes vs ducks, hmmm....wonder who's gonna win.
I don't know but the ducks sure look like they are making themselves at home.

I was going to say "you have gators there?" but I forgot where you live. Very cool!

Gators gators everywhere! We will see a dozen or more on a low tide, but there's a ton more that we don't see. You have to be suspicious of any body of water here with the dogs, they only get to swim at the beach. They certainly still enjoy the boat rides though!

We're river rats also. My male loves boat rides. My female is just a pup and this will be her first summer on the river. Fingers crossed she loves it too.

I went fishing at a park close to my house yesterday and seen this little guy, he was the most beautiful bright lime green! Here in Florida we have a TON of brown Cuban anoles, but you very rarely see the native green anoles as the introduced brown ones have all but eaten them out of habitat. This is the first time I have seen one in years.

That is really pretty. I doubt I've ever seen one unless I have in a zoo.

I actually had a blast just checking out the critters rather than fishing hehe. I do enjoy fishing a lot but lures bore me so I spent most of my time exploring. I'll take more pics next time but other than the lizard I found a ton of hermit crabs, a horseshoe crab, lots of juvenile fish, a conch and a giant colorful clam of some sort I don't even know what it is but it was BIG and shot water at me.

I tried to add another photo but it says the file is too large? I don't see how this can be as it is a phone photo and all the others have uploaded fine?

Wow, that's a lot of critters! Horseshoe crab: I think that's the kind we got out in Maryland.

You sound like my son. He wants to smoke them so bad.
He has become quite the smoking master. Now has a wide selection of various wood flavors to choose from. He can't decide between cherry or orange.

I have to say wild turkey is great with orange and I usually don't like mixing flavors like that.

Peach was on the list, not sure why he took it off. Probably has something to do with a recipe he wrote for a sauce or marinade.
Kind of funny you never used orange wood, I would think that was a given.

I was sitting in the sun room when these two came out of the woods. I could not get the damn reflection out of the picture.






When they took off, I look to the right and see this guy standing next to the house. Talk about deer in the headlights! lol They are so funny.


Then the other morning I come into the horse barn and see my first snake of the season! Only he was a tiny baby! I scooped him up in a dust pan and took him over to the woods.

While we're on snakes... here's what I caught this morning in the mud room. Yup - always when my husband is traveling.

I've been on the lookout for a big snake but so far, nothing. We usually see at least 4 adult Bull snakes every Spring. I saw my neighbor walking her Bull Mastiff with a long whip. When I asked her about it, she said she had encountered a huge snake! She's terrified of them so it really freaked her out. She walks the perimeter of her back property similar to me walking our pasture fence line and we both use the side that borders both of our properties. Only thing is, we mowed our entire property and they only mow a path for her to walk and even that doesn't always get done. I told her they like your high grass. When we mow our adjoining side, we always mow into their property a little so at least on our side she (and me!) have more area to walk that's not knee high grass.

But I'm still always on the lookout for snakes at this time of year. I've seen them in a lot more places than in the grass too. In the barn, right by the house, in a tree and in my horses stall one time when I was cleaning!

I love snakes, I think they're cool! I've had quite a few as pets in my day, and I'll catch wild ones for fun. We have six species of venemous ones here, but they are easy to identify. Just in case anyone wonders if a snake they've found is venemous, they have a couple key features that set them apart from the harmless ones. First is the eyes, they have elliptical cat eyes. Then look at the head, it will be triangular/wedge shaped. Venemous snakes are generally beefy in stature too. The only snake these rules don't apply to is the coral snake, and they are pretty distinguishable since they are wildly colored. "Red on black friend of jack, red on yellow kill a fellow"!

Most of my wildlife photos are of fish I've caught. Lol not sure if it counts but here's a sting ray I shot with my bow.
