Critters and wildlife in your area - post your pics

Last night my daughter and I were going out to the horse barn when the dogs started barking. I look out and there were deer coming out of my neighbors wooded back area. There must have been four or five of them and I was trying to get my camera as quick as I could but the darn dogs kept barking and scared them back into the woods. They would have crossed right through our driveway which probably would have given me a chance to get a good shot. By camera! LOL this is the only thing I got.

This guy was in the top of an Aspen tree early this morning and I caught one of him as he was coming back down. They're pretty nocturnal so I suppose it was bed time.

Yes it's a porcupine and we have lots of them here. It was way up there so that's the best my 70 - 200 lens could do.
Here's one in our wood shed from a year or so ago and they still like it in there. Gee, I wonder why? :D

Oh my God. About a half hour ago, the dogs were barking wildly at the kitchen door. I looked out and there was a coyote standing there, just past the driveway near my neighbor's corral!!

I flew all the way to the other side of the house to grab my cell phone, which was charging in the sun room! I also grabbed my camera and was turning it on as I was flying back to the kitchen. I was able to get a short video of him before he trotted off toward the front of our property.

So I flew (and almost fell over Buddy!! Loook outttt!~! LOL ) to the front door and caught a couple of cell phone shots of him as he headed for the woods!

He's very hard to see in the shot, so I zoomed in on both of them.

He is in the grassy area past our garden, to the left of that light post.

Aren't they usually nocturnal? My neighbor told me just the day that she saw one (the same one?) and thought it was a dog. She said it seemed very bold. They usually are! Freaks me out the way Kali was screaming and pawing at the door! Makes me wonder if she would have gone after him! But we all know they are braver behind a window. Either way, I'm not taking any chances! :wideyed:

No, they're not nocturnal. We see them at my mom's during the day quite often. She actually got video of one hunting mice in the field next to her around this time of day. She had one recently that is being rather bold, as well. Usually they take off if the dogs run at them. But a few weeks ago she looked out and saw the dogs out in the field WITH the coyote! I'm not sure if I'm more shocked that the coyote didn't hurt them or that my moms one dog didn't hurt it (she is not animal friendly, she tolerates the other resident dog and that's it, she kills or tries to kill anything else). But her dogs are both good sized.

Although, something else I just thought of. Many of the coyotes in our area are thought to actually be coywolves and rarely even coydogs, which I imagine would alter their behaivor. The ones out at my moms are likely coywolves, based on size. They are usually about the size of an adult GSD.
